JUNE UPDATE & FORZA RACE REGULATIONS
  • "Launched earlier this week, the June 2019 update for Forza Motorsport 7 focused almost completely on the still-in-development Forza Race Regulations (FRR) feature set. Track cutting enumeration, new FRR HUD Settings options, FRR Spectate, as well as some exploit fixes make up the bulk of the changes in June. As always, we welcome your feedback for all things FRR; share your thoughts in our June FRR Feedback thread on the Forza Forums. You can also read the Release Notes over on the Forza Support site. As we continue FRR development, the team will continue testing new FRR rule sets; we’ll keep the community aware of any major rules changes along the way."
  • Release Notes

EVENTS
  • Hoppers: current division hoppers
  • Leagues: Series 3 & Series 4 events
  • Specialty Dealer: this and next week's cars

#AlongForTheRide
  • "The Saleen S7 is perhaps the last (and only) American supercar. The S7 has been a Forza staple for years and in this week’s edition of “Along For the Ride” host Johniwanna talks with S7 owner Roy Cats from Seattle-based Cat’s Exotics talking about his Saleen and his other supercar passion: Lamborghini."
  • Replay Video

#FORZAFRIDAY LIVESTREAM
  • "It’s the last #ForzaFriday episode before E3 2019 and we’re welcoming Turn 10 producer Shay Goldenberg to the show. As the lead producer on the Turn 10 Media Team, Shay helps put together the amazing Forza videos and images that are featured here on FM.net and elsewhere around the Xbox world. He is also an integral part of the “Forza Monthly” broadcast team and will be behind the scenes in L.A. next week making sure everything runs smoothly."

#FORZAMONTHLY LIVESTREAM - E3
  • "We’re gearing up for our next edition of “Forza Monthly” and this one is going to be fun. For June we’re taking the show on the road and will be broadcasting live from Los Angeles, just a short walk away from all the Xbox fun happening at the Microsoft Theater downtown. The June “Forza Monthly” show will air directly after Monday’s episode of Inside Xbox, which begins at 3 p.m. Pacific. Look for special guests and lots of great Forza discussion, as we kick off a fun week of E3 broadcasts."

E3 2019: Future Of Forza Motorsport. Interview With Dan Greenawalt

Quote:
So, going into E3 2019 we knew that there would be no new Forza game announced. Definitely a weird feeling as this is the first time this has happened in years. The reason for this is the fact that Dan and the Turn 10 Studios team announced back in March that they would be taking a whole new approach to game development which would utilize more involvement from the Forza community of fans.

While there was no new Forza game, Dan Greenawalt was still in attendance. I was lucky enough to sit down with him and talk about what this new development approach would mean for the future of Forza and I even had some time to sneak in a few questions from the fans.

As in previous years, questions for the interview were solicited from the forums. Here are the questions asked during the 20 minute interview:
Why change the development system for the next game when the previous system and games have been a success?
  • Is this development process play-it-by-ear, or structured?
  • Is the addition of a mobile game (Forza Street) an indication that the brand may expand to other mediums like tv or film?
  • Is the team considering VR with the upcoming power of Project Scarlett?
  • Will the next game be available for the current generation of consoles, or wait for Project Scarlett?
  • What will players see in terms of locked content in the next game?
  • Will the next game prioritize the addition of new track environments?
  • Where is the heart of automotive culture in 2019?

Dan's final comments:
Quote:
I've been doing this job a pretty long time, and I'm still fired up about it. And it's because our ambitions are so high. And Xbox asks nothing of us, except keep our ambitions high. So they're asking us to change the world, build communities, be inclusive, make gaming for everyone... hallelujah. I'm on board, man. I live for that. So our team is able to say yes, let's jump into this and make something cool. So I need lofty ambitions. If we're just pumping out an experience and experience, it's just not the same as trying to change something I love so desperately.

I mean, I love gaming. I love that I game with my kids. I love making games with my kids. And I love cars! So I want to create that space where more people can be in our tribe.

Another Forza E3 is in the books! Playground Games’ LEGO Speed Champions Expansion for Forza Horizon 4 was front and center from the show floor at the Microsoft Theater, as well as on stage during last Sunday’s Xbox Press Briefing. In addition, we took “Forza Monthly” on the road for the very first time. Whether you were with us this the entire time or are just now getting caught up, let’s get you caught up with a recap of E3 2019 week. Welcome to the Forza Week in Review.

FORZA & LEGO TAKE THE STAGE
The LEGO Speed Champions expansion for Forza Horizon 4 was the big news for Forza fans at E3 2019. Featuring a mixture of Forza Horizon 4’s gameplay, events, and brick-collecting fun alongside a healthy dose of LEGO DNA, including that trademark LEGO humor, the expansion is unlike any LEGO-themed game before it. As LEGO’s own Chris Stamp put it to me this week, this was the notion from the very beginning – to bring the two worlds together in a way that neither team had done before.

You can now play the results for yourself, as the expansion launched on Thursday of this week. Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition owners get the LEGO expansion for no additional charge.

If you were on hand at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, you couldn’t miss the Forza section on stage. In addition to having lots of kiosks for fans to play the expansion demo, as well as a sled with wheel and pedal setup, the Forza section also featured its illustrious centerpiece: the LEGO McLaren Senna. Built from hundreds of thousands of individual LEGO bricks and weighing in at more than 3,300 lbs, the LEGO McLaren Senna is a LEGO master building marvel. Sitting inside the tight-fit cockpit, fans could also enjoy the interior amenities, such as a working info panel where you could turn on the headlights or check out the rear-view mirror. Pressing the big red button on the ceiling started the Senna’s “engine”, which could also rev with a press of the gas pedal.

The LEGO demo itself had fans lining up to take a go in the virtual Senna (and the LEGO-fied Mini Cooper) on a high-speed race through LEGO Valley, complete with UFO crashes, zipping through ghost-filled forests and past pirate coves, airports, and more. Fans who completed the demo were awarded with one of three collectible Forza pins featuring LEGO characters donning Forza race suits.

On Thursday of this week, Playground Games celebrated the launch of the LEGO Expansion with a special launch day livestream, live from Playground HQ:

Video: LEGO Launch Day Stream

To celebrate the launch of the LEGO Speed Champions expansion, we’ve got a challenge for Forza Horizon 4 players. Record your best video clips having fun in the world of LEGO Speed Champions and post the links to this thread in the forums. We’ll collect our favorites and show them off in the July edition of Forza Monthly. Time to crash some bricks!

FORZA MONTHLY | LIVE FROM L.A.
We took the show on the road for the June edition of “Forza Monthly” where we were joined by members of Playground Games, LEGO and Turn 10 to talk about the present and future of the Forza franchise. Playground Games’ Mike Brown and LEGO’s lead designer Chris Stamp were the first up, showing off the LEGO Speed Champions expansion in great detail. Also during the show, we announced that more than 10 million players have played Forza Horizon 4 since the game’s launch in 2018 – a number most assuredly worth celebrating.

After the LEGO demo, we were joined by Turn 10’s Jennifer Yi, director of Forza Esports. Jen talked about the recent ForzaRC test we conducted last month, including some tantalizing details on the kinds of team-based formats that were on hand at the test. Having seen the Budget Cup and hybrid Multi-Class races in person during the test week, I can say that these formats were fascinating to observe and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. The next step comes in August, when we’ll have more ForzaRC news to announce. Stay tuned.

Video: Forza Monthly | June at E3

Finally, we welcomed Forza creative director Dan Greenawalt to the stage and had a far-ranging conversation about the present and future of Forza Motorsport. During the segment, Dan discussed the current states of Forza Motorsport 7 and our next big Forza game. WIth the next game, Dan pointed out that the team is still in the early stages; so early, in fact, that we don’t have a release date for the project. Dan also spoke about the change of approach that Turn 10 is taking with the next game, the importance of building and maintaining communities as we continue the development of the next project, and his excitement for Project Scarlett, which was announced on stage during the Sunday Xbox Briefing.

I want to further emphasize something Dan mentioned during his guest appearance – that Forza fans can get involved with shaping the future of the next Forza project. One way you can get involved right now is by signing up for our User Research surveys. These surveys cover any number of items of interest in the world of Forza, so sign up and let your voice be heard!

LE MANS ESPORTS SUPER FINAL
Hot on the heels of one of the biggest videogame gatherings of the year is one of the biggest races of the year: the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans. In addition to the real-life endurance race, Esports drivers from all over the world (including well-known ForzaRC personalities like Laige, b0x, and others) have convened in France this weekend to compete for a $100,000 prize pool in the Le Mane Esports Super Final. Qualifying has been happening through 2019 and it all culminates in a grueling set of endurance races today and tomorrow.

Here’s a look at the Friday and Saturday schedules (Note: All times are CET)

You can watch all of the action on the official Forza Facebook page or on the official LMES Twitch channel and look for more updates on Forza’s Twitter and Instagram accounts this weekend from Le Mans where our own HeliosT10 is stationed this weekend. Good luck to all the teams and racers on hand at the event; look for a recap of the LMES results in next week’s edition of the Week in Review.

Whether you managed to visit the Microsoft Theater and meet the team in person, or you were watching E3 2019 live on the Forza channel, thanks to Forza fans everywhere for making this a great E3. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the weekend – and some LEGO Speed Champions expansion!

See you next week!

As we sometimes do here in the Week in Review, today’s edition is focused a bit more on what’s ahead than on what happened this past week. That’s because not only do we have the head of the Forza franchise joining today’s edition of #ForzaFriday, we’re just days away from live shows featuring the latest news in Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7. So, bear with us as we anticipate the near future of Forza here in the Week in Review!

SIR MIX-A-LOT INTERVIEW
  • "Last week, Seattle hip hop legend Sir Mix-A-Lot joined our own Johniwanna on the June 19 edition of “Wheel & Pedal Wednesday”, bringing along his Lamborghini Aventador to discuss on the show. If you missed it the first time around, the show is now up on the Forza YouTube channel for you to enjoy: https://youtu.be/VwDChA22S3A"

FM7 EVENT ROTATION
  • "Over the past few weeks, the Engagement Team within Turn 10 has been doing some behind-the-scenes work related to online events in Forza Motorsport 7 – things like Hoppers, Leagues, the car rotation in Specialty Dealer, etc. The goal has been to automate the events that are coming and going into the game, ensuring that Forza 7 players will have events to play for the foreseeable future, while also allowing for the team to move on to other projects. Once this automation work has been completed, we’ll share the full rotation of events in Hoppers, etc. Look for more information on this in the near future."

#FORZAFRIDAY LIVESTREAM
  • "Alan Hartman, Turn 10 Studio Manager and head of all things Forza, is coming to today’s edition of #ForzaFriday! The show begins at 3 p.m. Pacific on the Forza Mixer and Twitch channels and we’ll be spending an hour with him, talking about his career in games and with Forza, and of course chatting about the latest news in the world of Forza. We hope to see you there!"

UPDATE 11 PREVIEW & FORZA MONTHLY LIVESTREAMS
  • "On Monday, we’ll be broadcasting our Series 11 stream from Playground Games HQ, which will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific/6 p.m. UK time. Watch as our friends at Playground take you through everything you need to know about the latest update for Forza Horizon 4, which arrives on Tuesday, July 2nd."
  • "Directly following Playground’s stream, we’ll kick off with the July edition of “Forza Monthly” which will begin at 11 a.m. Pacific/7 p.m. Pacific. In addition to chatting with Playground about the latest Forza Horizon 4 updates, we’ll also be joined by Chris Esaki to take viewers through the latest news in Forza Motorsport 7, including the Forza Race Regulations updates arriving with the July update. We’ll also be debuting a new Q&A segment where we answer questions from the community about all things Forza. Don’t miss it!"

#FORZAMONTHLY LIVESTREAM - JULY

Replay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VFJFP6h43Q

In the July edition of #ForzaMonthly, Turn 10's Chris Esaki presented the next step in Forza Race Regulations coming with the July 2nd content update for Forza 7. At the end of the show he addressed questions from the community. While the questions were asked about FM7, the common theme in the answers was that trade-offs between work on the current game and the next project mean that after nearly two years in release, major content updates for FM7 will end in August.

Here are the timestamps:

22:00 - Another update in August will continue FRR updates. Disqualification adjustments may happen in August, may not.
23:00 - Shifting from FM7 to the next project:
"One of the biggest things we've been running into on all sides - car production, track production, and of course gameplay - is the core problem around shipping a real current live game and making sure it is ready for the public, and investing in things that will help us for the next product. It's all about speed for us, for a lot of purposes, to get to the next game. Something that I don't think most people appreciate about the production for games that are in a live environment, that are actually in release to the public is that there is a massive overhead to getting it to the public. We can't just code something and fire it out, we go through a ton of process for release. Basically it adds an overhead of from anywhere between 30-60% of our time, just goes to shipping this stuff. So when we're looking at any of this development right now - shipping a track or shipping a car or even nuances to FRR - all of that work which is normally there - and we're using all of this stuff for the next game - there's a good 30-60% of time shipping it to FM7 which could be used to help develop a better game in the future. So we're looking across all the studio and thinking, well, we could either continue this with FM7 and have 30-60% less of a game when we come out next time or we can start pushing all of that effort diirectly to the next product. ... So we're really going to go all in for the next product at this point." "The August update for Forza 7 will be the final update for the game [in terms of content]." Bug fixes and adjustments to FRR in FM7 may continue.
58:00 - Community Q&A segment starts with a review of changes to the game and process since launch nearly 2 years ago.
59:00 - IMSA Partnership? "We chose to invest in our future and make sure the next product has some of these truly authentic motorsport experiences either from a licensed series" (IMSA, WEC) or other.
1:01:30 - Drafting? The team recognizes that drafting isn't where it should be, but the work is being done for the next game.
1:03:00 - Past Forza fantasy tracks? Again, this is being looked at for the next Forza project.
1:06:30 - Consistency in FRR track cutting penalties. "FRR is a years-long process."
1:08:00 - Experimental Drag will stay experimental in FM7 for now, and will be part of the overall next experience.
1:09:00 - Searchable Custom Public Lobbies. "We hear you loud and clear and more details on that to come" for the next Forza product.
1:10:00 - http://aka.ms/AskForza will have a new thread where users can submit questions for the August Forza Monthly Q&A.

Forza Motorsport 7 July 2019 Update Release Notes

This month’s update includes work on Forza Race Regulations features, as well as UI and localization updates. For more information on the Forza Race Regulations updates for July in the game, check out our full announcement on FM.net.

Fixed an issue where, when assists were set to “Fuel & Tires”, the tire damage showed up in race, but fuel percentage did not.

End condition for Drift races is now set to “Number of Laps” by default (rather than “Time”).

In lap-based Drift events, scoring options is now set to “Bigger is Better” and “Compare Best Lap Scores” by default.

Fixed an issue where the Distance Ahead HUD display in Free Play would not display in a race with zero Drivatars.

Forza Motorsport 7 July 2019 Update

The work on Forza Race Regulations (FRR) in Forza Motorsport 7 continues with the July 2019 update! This month, we’re introducing the first iteration of collision-based penalties – known in game as “Avoidable Contact” – into the FRR feature set. In July, the implementation of FRR avoidable contact penalties will be focused on penalizing the most egregious examples of contact (i.e. intentional ramming) in the game. The system will do so by considering several factors when judging contact between cars, including speed, position, and how the struck car is affected by the contact (i.e. whether it went off track, into a wall, etc.)

With the July update, the FRR development team has been intentional in trying to penalize the most obvious examples of ramming. Our goal has been to avoid “false positives” collision penalties as much as possible. As a result, players will notice that certain contact between cars that might realistically be deemed a penalty is not called out as in July.

July’s new FRR updates will be playable in both the Forza Race Regulations Cycled Production public hopper, as well as in private lobbies, where players have the option to enable the FRR ruleset.

In addition to the feature work around Avoidable Contact FRR penalties, the July 2019 update also introduces some changes to the game, including some updates to Free Play Drift event settings, FRR-related audio and UI improvements, and an update to the Mini Leaderboard where both distance and time penalties are shown at once, instead of flipping between the two.

Finally, a word about the future for Forza Motorsport 7. Development on Forza 7, including further Forza Race Regulations features, will culminate with next month’s August 2019 update. Of note, the August update will feature race disqualifications based on accumulated penalty times. Look for more detail on how this will work next month.

While August will be the final update for Forza Motorsport 7, we are still eager to hear your feedback about FRR as we continue the development and evolution of the Forza Race Regulation feature looking ahead. As in the past, we encourage Forza players to submit their feedback via a dedicated thread in the Forza Forums.

Forza Week in Review 7-5-19

Quote:
We’ve got a lot a scroll-heavy edition of the Forza Week in Review today, with loads of Forza Motorsport 7 event information packed in. Last week, we mentioned that online events in Forza 7 will be cycled going forward as the development team moves onto the next project. In today’s edition, we’ve got the full rundown of the content that will be cycling in the game (see below).

Before we get to that, let’s wrap up the week with a look back at the two big updates for Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7. Welcome to the Week in Review!

JULY UPDATE
  • "If you haven’t done so already, jump into the Forza Race Regulations hopper and see for yourself just how FRR has changed with the July 2019 update for Forza 7. For the first time, we’ve introduced collision-based penalties to the game, and what a difference it makes. For July, the team focused on the FRR system’s ability to recognize and penalize extreme examples of ramming. However, what I’ve enjoyed has been what the system doesn’t penalize; including side-by-side bumps and light taps that don’t really warrant a penalty. As Chris Esaki explained on Monday’s “Forza Monthly” the goal in July was to avoid “false positives” and, so far, so good."

AUGUST UPDATE
  • "As we also discussed on “Forza Monthly,” next month’s August 2019 update for Forza Motorsport 7 will be the final update for the game, as Turn 10 shifts its attention fully to the next project. We have some cool stuff to come in August around Forza Race Regulations, so look forward to more information on that on our August 5th edition of “Forza Monthly.”

CYCLED EVENTS
With the developers switching over the to next Forza project, events have been put on a repeating cycle. (WIR has the full list of events and cars):
  • Hoppers: 6 biweekly groups of Division and Tag hoppers
  • Leagues: 3 seasons
  • Specialty Dealer: 12 weekly sets

#FORZAMONTHLY Q&A
  • "If you missed Monday’s edition of “Forza Monthly” you missed Turn 10’s Chris Esaki and Playground Games’ Matt Pickering taking questions from the Forza community during our Community Q&A segment. During the show, Matt answered questions around ongoing support for Forza Horizon 4, as well as when fans can expect online improvements, among other questions. Meanwhile, Chris tackled questions around the Forza/IMSA partnership, drafting improvements, and the future of “original” tracks in Forza games. Check out the Q&A segment in our replay below (fast forward to the 47:33 mark to go straight to the Q&A): https://youtu.be/4VFJFP6h43Q"
  • If you’ve got a question about Forza that you want to see answered, let us hear it. Post your question here in our dedicated forum thread for consideration in our Q&A segment during the August show. http://aka.ms/AskForza

#FORZAFRIDAY
  • "If you missed last Friday’s edition of #ForzaFriday, featuring Forza boss Alan Hartman, do yourself a favor and go back and watch it. We had a great conversation with Alan, as he shared stories from his career in games and with Forza, including an unforgettable story of working with Dreamworks and famed director Steven Spielberg. As we’re coming off the Fourth of July holiday here in the U.S. we won’t have a guest for today’s edition of #ForzaFriday; instead we’ll be hanging out with viewers and playing both Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7. The show starts at 3 p.m. Pacific on Mixer and Twitch, we hope to see you there!"

WEEK IN REVIEW
  • "That’s about it for this edition of the Week in Review. Note that the next installment of the Forza Week in Review will be on Friday, July 19. See you then!"

Forza Week in Review 7-19-19
Brian Ekberg
Friday, July 19, 2019
www.forzamotorsport.net/news/wir_7_19_19

Quote:
Welcome back to the Forza Week in Review. Since our last WIR edition, we’ve seen the opening of a new Microsoft Flagship store in London, where Forza played a front-and-center role. We’re also looking at the new events in Forza Horizon 4 and welcoming a new guest to #ForzaFriday. Let’s go!

MICROSOFT STORE LONDON OPENING
  • "The new flagship Microsoft Store opened in London on July 11. Located on Oxford Street not far from Hyde Park, the new store opened up in grand fashion and Forza games were a huge part of the fun. Not only could visitors try out the new LEGO Speed Champions Expansion for Forza Horizon 4, the store also featured a dark blue McLaren Senna – this one NOT built out of LEGO bricks, mind you – in which fans could climb in and play Forza Motorsport 7 on a screen projected in front of the car. Talk about an expensive racing accessory!"

#WHEELANDPEDALWEDS
  • "If you missed this week’s edition of Wheel & Pedal Wednesday, you missed a genuine Japanese legend in Johniwanna’s garage – the Nissan R32 GT-R and its owner Rob from Godspeed Fabrication. Rob’s been on W&PW before – last seen showing off his Rat Rod – this week’s show was a chance to get up close and personal with the automotive equivalent to a monstrous kaiju. Don’t miss the replay on the Forza channel for an in-depth look at this JDM classic."

#FORZAFRIDAY GUEST NEHA CHINTALA
  • "A new guest to interview on #ForzaFriday is always a cause for celebration and, today, we’ve got just that. We’re welcoming Turn 10 producer Neha Chintala to the show today for her first appearance on the show. Neha joined the team earlier in the year and has most notably led the team building Forza Race Regulations in Forza Motorsport 7. During today’s show, we’ll be chatting with Neha about all things Forza and playing both Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 4. The show starts at 3 p.m. Pacific on Mixer and Twitch; stop by and welcome Neha to the show!"

FUTURE SCHEDULE
  • "The next edition of the Forza Week in Review will be published on Friday, August 2nd."
