Vroom! Xbox “Forza Motorsport” gaming competition is a first for 2018 Special Olympics
June 29, 2018 at 6:00 am

Quote:
Microsoft, which makes Xbox and created “Forza,” came up with the idea to add a gaming event to Special Olympics, spurred by the recent rising popularity of esports competitions. The company also has a growing focus on making technology more accessible to people with disabilities.

“You can see the joy of gaming and the joy of competition is really universal,” said Katy Jo Wright, director of Gaming for Everyone at Xbox, a group that focuses on making gaming inclusive.

Microsoft is the premier partner of the Games this year, having given more than $3 million in cash and services to Special Olympics. The company has partnered with Special Olympics since 2014, the same year CEO Satya Nadella took over the reins of the company. Nadella has been the driving force behind much of the company’s accessibility initiatives, encouraging company groups to invest in technology such as the Xbox adaptive controller, which allows people with disabilities to easily play video games, and Seeing AI, a camera app that narrates the world for people with vision impairments.

Rivals are showing up for me, but are they supposed to never change? I just beat a 'rival' and noticed that he set that time in Jan 2018....as in 6 months ago.

How often do the Rivals events change?

Forza Motorsport 7 July Update
Brian Ekberg
Monday, July 9, 2018
https://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/news/fm7_july_update

Be sure to read the article on the site or in the Forza Hub app for full details. Highlights below:

Quote:
The July update for Forza Motorsport 7 arrives on July 10! This update includes new features and improvements to the game based on community feedback, as well as some exciting new content in our Porsche Spotlight Cars and the Top Gear Car Pack. The Porsche Spotlight Cars will be free to all Forza 7 players, and the Top Gear Car Pack is one of two additional car packs recently added to the Forza Motorsport 7 Car Pass.

July’s update is full of improvements across Forza Motorsport 7, and this update also kicks off several new development initiatives in the game that we will be releasing over the summer. All of this work is coming directly from our ongoing conversation with the Forza community and our goal to deliver an ever-improving game experience for fans. We’ll outline the major features and changes in the July update below; for a detailed look at the fixes and improvements coming to Forza Motorsport 7 with the July update, check out our Release Notes thread on the Forza Forums when they’re posted on Tuesday.

PORSCHE SPOTLIGHT CARS
"This month is Porsche Month in Forza Motorsport 7 and we’re celebrating with the launch of two new Porsche Spotlight cars, both of which will be available to all Forza 7 players at no additional charge. Classic racing fans will recognize the unmistakable livery of the Porsche 917/20, aka the “Pink Pig”, while the 2019 911 GT3 RS reflects the modern expression of Porsche’s genius. "

TOP GEAR CAR PACK
"Seven amazing cars make up the Top Gear Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 7. From the latest masterpieces from Ferrari and McLaren, to ultra-light track weapons like the Vuhl 05RR and the Exomotive Exocet, this is a pack for those that love all the beautiful eccentricity the automotive universe has to offer. Turn 10 and Top Gear worked closely on the pack together, both in terms of choosing the cars available in the pack, and by working together on the awesome trailer. "

UNLOCKED CARS AND PRIZE CRATES
"The July update unlocks more than 100 previously exclusive cars. Going forward, the only cars that will remain locked will be Forza Edition cars and unicorn cars that exist in the game. In addition to unlocking all cars, as of July 10, we will remove all car-related crates from Forza Motorsport 7 from the Prize Crates system. The crates that will remain in the game will contain only Driver Gear, Badges, and/or Mod Cards."

OTHER NEW FEATURES
"First up, players will notice a much-improved performance in the car select screens. This change is a direct result of feedback from our multiplayer community; now, during multiplayer intermissions, players will be able to get to your cars quicker than ever before. In addition, we’ve given players another tool to combat griefing behavior by now allowing private lobby hosts to remove players from a lobby in the middle of a race. This update also includes an evolution of the Forza Motorsport 7 Message Center feature; with this update, we’ll be automatically hiding tabs in the Message Center that don’t contain content for the player. Look for more updates to Forza 7 Message Center in the future."

#FORZA 7 JULY UPDATE - discussion

FORZARC 2018 SERIES 2 HAS BEGUN - discussion
  • "Our first ForzaRC Series 2 qualifier went live earlier this week and has resulted in a furious fight for the top spot on the global leaderboard amongst the ForzaRC elite. Qualifiers have been shortened to 48 hours here for Series 2, based on feedback from ForzaRC players, and that means less time to get your best time on the boards. Now that the qualifier is closed, we’ll look ahead to this weekend’s Ghost races in preparation for our first Series 2 Wednesday Showdown broadcasts on Wednesday, July 18. As with Series 1, we’ll be doing two shows; one at noon Pacific for European drivers, and another at 6 p.m. Pacific for North America. Tune in to all the action on watch.forzarc.com starting on Wednesday!"

SPECIAL OLYMPICS USA GAMES - discussion
  • "We mentioned this last week in the Week in Review but our own Co Pilot recently attended the Xbox Gaming Tournament at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games which was a first in the world of competitive video gaming. You can read up and see some highlights from the event by checking out this awesome blog post over at the Xbox News website."

BARWELL MOTORSPORT DESIGN COMPETITION - announcement
  • "It makes us incredibly happy to discover that the winner of the recent Barwell Motorsport Design Competition is none other than PTG Wildcat from the well renowned Pendulum Tuning Group. PTG Wildcat’s design will now be featuring on the #77 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup Am Class Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the upcoming Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours race event in collaboration with our good friends at TORA. The car will be driven by Adrian Amstutz, Leo Machitski, Jon Minshaw and Patrick Kujala."

#FORZAFRIDAY
  • "That’s about it for this week’s edition of the Week in Review. We won’t have an episode of #ForzaFriday this week due to summer vacation but we’ll be back in the streaming saddle again next week for our regular lineup of streaming shows."

Quote:
2018 has been a whirlwind of activity in the world of Forza. It’s been just over nine months since we launched Forza Motorsport 7 and there are just over two months to go before the next great Forza game – Forza Horizon 4 – releases on October 2. In the Forza Racing Championship, we crowned Noble b0x after his fantastic performance at our Series 1 Playoffs here in Seattle, and Series 2 is now going strong. In June we also welcomed Playground Games into the Xbox first-party developer family, strengthening our Forza ties more than ever before. With all this action, I thought it would be a great time to take a few moments to appreciate where we’ve been so far this year and to let the Forza community know about some important steps yet to come.

Our players’ expectations of games and their experiences have changed over the years and, since launch, the team at Turn 10 has been working incredibly hard on Forza Motorsport 7. We’ve all been inspired by the brilliant passion of the Forza community. You’ve been tireless in sharing your feedback about the game, letting us know what you like and what you’d like to see improved. Along the way we’ve done our best to listen to, absorb, and most importantly, act upon that feedback.

Since launch we’ve released more than 15 major updates to Forza Motorsport 7, which have included improvements across all aspects of the game – from PC performance enhancements to bug fixes and more. We’ve introduced new features like multiplayer test drive, new panning focus mode in Photo Mode, improved paint tools, as well as a new Data Out feature that allows players to take advantage of a UDP data stream to develop custom companion experiences for the game. We’ve also released new cars from manufacturers like Porsche, Honda, and Ford, available to all Forza 7 players for free. The result is a game that is deeper, more open, fun, and responsive, and more representative of the Forza community than ever.

We’ve got lots of great stuff still to come. We’re continuing to pour our heart and soul into Forza Motorsport 7, including building brand-new experiences like our “experimental drag racing” feature, as well as introducing game enhancements like updated track limits, Time Attack mode, drift scoring and enhanced drift steering angle, and our upcoming Forza Race Regulations systems, all of which have developed from our ongoing conversation with the Forza community.

One major area of discussion for the team has been prize crates. While we’ve never charged money for prize crates in Forza Motorsport 7, their presence in the game has continued to be a source of controversy. The overwhelming feedback has been that this system feels out of place in the game. After careful consideration, we have decided to completely remove prize crates from Forza Motorsport 7. Similarly, paid tokens – which were a part of previous Forza games – will not be coming to Forza Motorsport 7 or Forza Horizon 4.

Due to the complexity of removing prize crates from the game – while keeping access to Driver Gear, Mods and Badges – we expect that this process will be completed in the winter timeframe. Starting this month we’ve already taken steps towards that goal, first by unlocking more than 100 previously locked “exclusive” cars and, second, by completely removing cars from the prize crates in the game. The current lineup of prize crates offer no competitive advantage and only offer Driver Gear suits, Mods and badges, and these crates will remain in place until crates are removed entirely.

As always, I want to thank the Forza community for your passion and commitment and for being such an integral part of everything we do. With more updates planned for Forza Motorsport 7 and the launch of Forza Horizon 4 just around the corner, the second half of 2018 promises to be busier and more exciting than ever. As always, we’re eager to hear your feedback. Follow us on Twitter, share a post in the Forza Forums, or send us an e-mail, and let your voice be heard. It’s a great time to be a Forza fan and I’m glad we get to share it with you.

FORZA SUMMER UPDATE
Quote:
But we’ll start today’s story off with an important message from Turn 10's studio manager Alan Hartman. Yesterday, we posted Alan’s Forza Summer Update here on FM.net and, in addition to recapping an already busy 2018 for Forza, Alan shared some important news for Forza Motorsport 7. Namely, based on our ongoing conversation with the community, we have decided to remove Prize Crates from the game

Removing the Prize Crates feature is no small undertaking and we expect to have it complete this winter. Our goal is to remove crates while still allowing players to have access to the items they want, including cars, Driver Gear, and Mod Cards. We’ve seen a lot of questions about how this new system will work and you can be sure we’ll be showing it off once the time is right. One other related bit of news: In the post, Alan stated that tokens would not be part of Forza Motorsport 7 or Forza Horizon 4 going forward. If you missed the post in its entirety check it out here on FM.net.

PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS CHALLENGE
Quote:
As you probably know the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS was one of two Spotlight cars featured in July. Now, Porsche and ESL are teaming up for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Challenge, offering an incredible ultimate prize for Porsche fans: participation in the Porsche Master Cup Training in Barcelona, Spain. In between, the top four qualifiers will take part in real life training at the Hungaroring, home of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Before we get there, however, the qualifying in Forza Motorsport 7 begins. Starting on July 29 through August 7, players will compete in a special Rivals event in Forza Motorsport 7 to move onto the next stage, then eventually on to Gamescom to compete in the Gamescom Finals.

Note that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Challenge is only available to players in select regions – for full rules and tournament structure, check out the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Challenge page on the ESL Web site.

I'm assuming that 12:00 am PAC for the EMEA Wednesday Showdown is a typo or possibly mixed up with The Wheel and Pedal Stream and that the AM time is completely wrong. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but a 12am PAC stream seems a little wonky.
