Hi guys, I'm new to PC gaming and I was thinking about buying a budget laptop and I'm not sure if it will be able to run Apex or FH3.
Specs:
Intel core i7-6700HQ
8GB Single channel DDR3L
1TB 5.4k Hybrid HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5

The 5400 rpm is slow for gaming, presumably the hybrid ssd part will only hold the OS. I would hold off and wait until the new laptop gpu's are released which should be soon. check out this article http://www.extremetech.c...gtx-1080-1070-to-laptops
It should also lower the price of laptops with the older gpu's so maybe you could get a 970m at a decent price. Make sure and try to get 4gb or more of Vram, it is becoming more and more crucial for good performance. A desktop option will always cost less and the gpu's and cpu's are more powerful than their mobile counterparts but it depends if you have the space for that. Currently I have an Asus ROG with a 965M, only 2 gb of vram :( but that was all I could afford. Apex runs ok but not great, 60fps but choppy at times medium settings. I have to mess with the video settings more but have not got around to it. I am hoping this is enough for H3 but it may not be.

I have a decent PC, but when playing forza apex it was using 4.5-6GB of my 8GB so should I upgrade ram for this game or is they're memory leaks or more performance to come from the apex beta? :)

Hi i'm new here. I already installed Apex on my PC to check if i hopefully can run H3. But it's stuttering. 20-35FPS. Sometimes higher.
Othe games like Project Cars and GTA5 i can run on highest setttings without problems. I don't unterstand that.

My pc specs

Intel Core i5-4690 CPU 4x @ 3.50 GHz
GeForce GTX 960
16GB RAM DDR3-1600
1TB HDD 7.200U/min

My PC with an i5 2500K, GTX 770 and 12GB RAM has problems with Forza Apex, so I'll stick to playing FH3 on the Xbone for the time being - its good to know I can switch platforms if and when I upgrade, but for now that's not looking likely.

How strange, i have a fx8350, gtx 660 and 16GB RAM and the game runs perfectly fine on 1080p

I loaded up Apex this morning to see how it runs on my new RX 470.

FX-6300
PowerColor Red Devil RX 470

Playing the first race on max settings at 1440p I was getting 60fps most of the time with dips as low as 52fps. I suspect my CPU is having trouble keeping up.

It's propably very Ram intensive, because the XBO has an slow Harddrive and therefore stored all the game textures and stuff in Ram.

Yes I know its a laptop

I should be fine lol

You'll be surprised lol, unless they optimized horizon 3 better than apex

My gtx 660 runs apex just fine

All textures and everything on high in 4K?? Are you running high textures? What resolution are you running??

I think my settings are very very different than yours bud

Everyone in Apex is running different settings

just medium, 60 fps on 1080p

yup there's a huge difference. some people are shooting higher. forza APEX has new settings for PC and for those of us that have strong hardware APEX runs bogus, but every other game including DOOM are easy to run 4K 60FPS, so this is what I mean the console ports or not optimized well for PC especially when you run medium to max settings. I'm experimenting 3 different kinds of CPU(some spare parts), various GPU's and a spare mother board I got. its leading me to believe APEX is not optimized for high settings, hell I even bought another brand of ram to see if there's a difference and none!

i can run Apex just fine in my rig and its not something amaizing i actualy thought it was a verry well optimized game my PC specs: Case Deepcool Tesseract BF black, Corsair Builder Series CX600M Powersuply, Asus Z170-A Premium Motherboard, GPU ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX OC, SSD Samsung 850 EVO, Memory HyperX Fury Black 16GB DDR4 2133MHz, Procesor Intel Skylake Core i5 6600K 3.5GHz box, Cooler CPU Zalman CNPS7X LED! hope this can run FH3

Strange, maybe it has something to do with the unified memory of the Xbox one. I have a GTX 980m 8GB variant and the memory usage in GPU-Z while playing Apex always hovers around 3.5GB dedicated and 2GB shared(No idea why it uses shared memory when >half the vram is free) and about 3GB RAM. I run it maxed out with 8xMSAA and V-sync locked to 60, no dips and GPU utilization is usually around 70-75% with occasional peaks to 90+%. While I don't think it actively uses 5.5GB of VRAM, it may help with the way the game works . Note that I only downloaded the game a couple of weeks ago and I encountered no issues the early adopters had. I feel like it was a well optimized game excepting the insane amount of screen tearing without V-sync and crashing if a Xbox 360 controller is connected before the game is opened. I'm very excited about FH3! I hope to play it maxed at 1080p/60 after seeing how apex performs, even if it was less demanding than horizon.

(I'm gonna correct your spelling cause it hurts)
I wonder if Apex is more dependent on ram as someone said rather than GPU or CPU. It is optimized like **** however. I'm lucky to even get 10, I have a I7 6500u GT940m and 16gb DDR3. I know it's a **** system but it runs ArmA 3 on high at a good 30fps. It leads me to wonder how much Turn 10 has learned about this. Horizon is not completely developed by Turn 10, it also has Playground Games involved. It leads me to wonder how well the performance on anything less than a 1070 will be. Or even a well overclocked 980.

The 960, 965m cards are also GDDR3 rather than the GDDR5 that the 970, 980m's have. The 1070 and 1080 mobile cards that are getting released at Gamescom this year will probably be close to $3k. Hopefully that will push the prices of 970, 980m gpu based computers down but it is unknown, because it might just end up keeping them the same price and just increasing the new computers price.

I'm curious about the specs too. If it runs half as good as Apex does I'm sitting pretty. I'm running Apex at 4K DSR with all settings maxed and it never really drops below 60fps. It's a beta and it looks and runs better than any other game I have. The only thing keeping me from ordering is steering wheel support.

Do you think I can run this game in 60FPS if I build a PC with the recommended stats for Forza Apex?

We can't yet tell, but since Forza Motorsport 6 is running at 60 FPS while Forza Horizon 3 will be running at 30 FPS on the Xbox One there's a chance that Horizon 3 will be a more demanding game on PC than Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. On the other hand FM6: Apex is just a beta which is poorly optimized and stuttering for many while FH3 will be a full game that's hopefully better optimized than Apex.

personally I don't see a point in playing in 4K but that's just me, I'd prefer going for framerate rather than a resolution where you can barely see that much of a difference in pixels lol
my goal is to atleast make it playable at 1080p 60fps on high settings (not Ultra because Ultra uses unnecessary resources unless you have an extremely good PC)

AMD FX-6300
GTX 750Ti
2x 240 SSD
12gb Team Elite (1600)

Im not trying to reach 4k resolution, don't even have the TV for it. Lol
Gonna have to upgrade.

edit: Downloaded and played Apex at a solid 50-60 fps at 1080p, should be good for Horizon 3?
