I wrote a similar post on the FM6: Apex forum and it turns out you need a pretty good pc even for 1080p60FPS. Since FH3 generally is a bigger game I'm curious about what GPU and CPU you'll need to run @1080p60FPS, 1440p60FPS or even 2160p30/60FPS. I'm considering getting a GTX 1070 and a CPU in hope to play in 4k.

Minimum system requirements (Source: Microsoft Store):
CPU: i5 3570 3.4 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti or AMD R7 250X
VRAM: 2 GB
RAM: 8 GB

I haven't seen any PC spec requirements as of yet. I'm hoping with the Apex beta work they will optimize and make the specs more realistic for what the majority of players have. I'm also considering a GTX 1070 for the additional horsepower and then consider the 4K step up.

I'd like to see 4GB for 480/30, but I know I won't...

4K is a lot of pixels (+6 million more than 1080p's modest 2 million px), even for brand new hardware. Remember, the Horizon series is only 30fps on console, unlike the main Forzas which do 60. So you're already going to be getting a performance hit here by default over something like Apex because the open world and day / night cycle stuff and dynamic weather is more demanding than closed tracks and pre-fixed lighting and weather. Obviously a good PC is far more powerful than an Xbox One, but don't go in expecting it to fly at 4k.

Will be interesting to see what the min/rec specs are, as well as some benchmarks once it's finally out.

How well can you run Apex? I have an Alienware AW17 R3 w/ the 980m and I can't match XB1 visual quality@60fps. Granted I don't have Skylake but according to benchmarks the 980m is roughly 970 desktop performance.

I'm running an AMD 4ghz 8-core, 32GB of ram and a 980TI @ 30fps 2160P

I have a second 980 but apex does not support SLi and when you force SLi works like bung hole

If you want to run 2160P 120fps might have to wait for the 1080Ti and even then it's questionable

You'll be surprised lol, unless they optimized horizon 3 better than apex

My gtx 660 runs apex just fine

Horizon 3 for PC may have unlocked FPS just like apex you never know

All textures and everything on high in 4K?? Are you running high textures? What resolution are you running??

I think my settings are very very different than yours bud

just medium, 60 fps on 1080p

I believe they've confirmed the framerate would be unlocked on PC in FH3. I was only saying it's a much more demanding game which is why they have to cap it at 30fps on console, unlike the main Forza games which are always 60fps. So PCs that barely squeak by running something like Apex at 60fps at a very high resolution will likely be taking a hit in performance at similar settings in Horizon. Unless the optimize the hell out of it somehow.

yup there's a huge difference. some people are shooting higher. forza APEX has new settings for PC and for those of us that have strong hardware APEX runs bogus, but every other game including DOOM are easy to run 4K 60FPS, so this is what I mean the console ports or not optimized well for PC especially when you run medium to max settings. I'm experimenting 3 different kinds of CPU(some spare parts), various GPU's and a spare mother board I got. its leading me to believe APEX is not optimized for high settings, hell I even bought another brand of ram to see if there's a difference and none!

optimization for PC should be the main focus learning from APEX. I kid you not, I can run all modern PC games at 2160P either 30FPS or 60FPS I don't know why APEX is such an issue, there are more complex games like Witcher 3 which I can run decent @30FPS 2160P.

Forza 6 apex is still going under optimisation improvements, I can still run it well though

Getting 1080p 60fps should be very doable on most high-end PCs. 4K, however, is where the serious questions start being asked.

I found these computer requirements somewhere on internet (im not 100% if they are real)
Minimal:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460/AMD FX-8350 (But i think Phenom II X4/X6 should be also fine)
GPU: GTX 760/R7 260X (2GB VRAM)
RAM: 8GB
Space on HDD: 55GB
Recomended:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790/AMD FX-8370
GPU: GTX 980 Ti 6 GB/R9 Fury X 4 GB

yes but its definitely not stable :(

Fun fact: you can cook dinner while playing in 4K. just put the raw food behind the video cards

all jokes aside, witcher 3 is more complex than forza (no disrespect to T10) imo, and i run that in 4K very decent

yes i saw those too when the beta launched but you still need more power to run stable 4K

my current specs:
-AMD 8-core 4GHZ processor
-2x nvidia 980Ti's
-32gb of Corsair VENGANCE ram
-Sandisk 480gb SSD

I meet or exceed the requirements this is why i said this beta needs optimization

I'm waiting for July to buy new RX 480

You'll not need an Xbox One in order to play Forza Horizon 3 on Windows 10.

I would assume 16gb of RAM, any recent I7 and a 980 will do the job for 1080p/60fps using settings relatively close to the Xbox One.
For 4K this is going to be very difficult, I don't see a single 980ti cutting it for 60fps.

If my computer cannot run Forza Apex, will it be able to run Forza Horizon 3?
