So I've been playing this game since it's release with no issues until I went to start it up today and it won't launch. Getting an error saying D3D12 support required. No idea why it suddenly stopped working. System specs:

Windows 10 Pro
i7 3770k
32GB RAM
GTX 980Ti

Any tips? I have the latest NVidia drivers, same ones I was using when the game worked.

Thanks

Gutsy, can you send your DXDiag my way so I can get the team to investigate? In the thread or via PM is fine.

!!! GAME WORKS NOW AFTER I DISABLED MY INTEL HD ONBOARD GRAPHICS !!!

If re-enabled the error shows up again. So i guess that's the problem in the "startup-check".

As mentioned several times on the forums already and also (somewhat) in the Known Issues list -> do not use hybrid graphics.

Good to know it works now.

Good to know that disabling of the Intel iGPU is required to play the game after the update.
Is work being done to resolve this issue?
When the game was first available the issue was not there and was introduced with the latest 5/12 update.

What work? I run a hybrid-graphics PC (Intel HD4400 and GTX960) and I have no issues at all, not before and not after todays update of Apex.

I do however have custom profiles in my NVIDIA Control Panel where I have selected that only my GTX960 is allowed to do any calculations like Direct3D, PhysX and whatnot. Unsure if I am just lucky or have taken time to make sure my GTX960 gets used when needed.

Might just be me though; I even run Apex over a seperate VLAN (with NIC-failover) for iSCSI which is also shared (not Microsoft best practice) by my Hyper-V instances for direct disk access. Can't be bothered to keep Apex on my local SSD; my PC's stay clean of clutter :)

There is an issue for those with Intel hardware that may be causing this. In the last Intel driver update they broke DX12 support for internal graphics. Even if you're running on dedicated graphics hardware, this could be causing an issue when the intel graphics are polled by the game at start. So make sure the intel graphics are disabled in bios if possible to hopefully negate this issue.
This is an intel issue not a Forza issue from what i've seen. It's affected other software as well.

Latest driver update for my intel hardware was this january, and that's why it is not intel issue. Hope it can be fixed soon

I updated Win10 yesterday but blocked the Apex update.

Even after a reboot the game still started.

Right after i installed the Apex update, the AP501 error appeared.

So for me it is an Apex issue !

I don't have intel integrated card installed but still have the issue with directx12... before the update the game runs very well without issue with hight detail...

My configuration: CPU: Intel Core i5 3330 3Ghz
GPU: AMD Radeon R7 260x 2gb Gddr5
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600mhz
OS: Windows 10 Pro (Build 10586.318)

but disabling integrated graphics did the trick.

Sorry I should have made it clear this is for a small group of people. I didn't mean to sound like I was saying it's not a Forza issue for others. Merely for those with certain Intel hardware it's more likely that causing the issue. For those on AMD hardware for example, an intel issue would clearly not affect them. lol
Sorry for any confusion!

We're sorry to hear you're unable to play since the update. We are actively looking into this issue. In the meantime, if you were able to play before, you can still play by doing the following:

When the error AP501 prompt appears, press and hold PgUp, and then close it. It should dismiss the error, and let you still play.
