I had a wheel at the start of FM5, but it only lasted for 6 months. After that I was back to the controller. I did pick up a G27 for my PC though, as I bought a ton of racing sims on their while I had the TX wheel.
The drifting in FM5 with the TX wheel was awesome, and a lot of fun to boot. Plus, with me been a racer in Forza also, I had a lot of fun racing with it as well. If Thrustmaster have resolved the reliability issues with the TX wheel, then it is worth a definite buy. But you only get a 2 pedal set with the normal TX model, and no H-pattern shifter. There is the new TX servo base, which comes with nothing. You have to buy the wheel rim you want, and the pedals you want, which is either the T3PA or Pro versions. Then the shifter on top of that.
As for the new logitech wheel, if it is anything like the G27, then it will be worth a buy. I drift all the time in Assetto Corsa, and it is an awesome wheel. The new G920 comes with a 3 pedal set (Identical to the G27's, but with a stiffer brake), but the shifter has to be bought separately. The G29 PS4 version seems to work with the G27's shifter though, so the G920 X1 version might also.
I am stuck between buying back into Thrustmaster, or getting the Logitech wheel. At the moment I am leaning more towards Logitech. Thrustmaster support left me out in the cold when my TX wheel broke, and wouldn't repair/replace it. Thankfully Amazon gave me a full refund on the wheel, so I didn't lose my money.
The drifting in FM6 feels like FM4 to me, in fact so does the racing. I spent 7 hours with it on the 10th when the ultimate edition unlocked, and that is the conclusion I came to. I am on a controller atm, so I cant say what it is like on a wheel though.
