Umm, what's going on with the colors/textures in completely clear skies at night? Everything looks convincing and quite impressive but then you see that horrible color banding between the browns and blues. It's only noticeable at a particular time of night with no clouds on tracks that support night - so Yas, Sebring, Spa, Silverstone, etc.

Are you guys seeing this color banding? I asked some of my colleagues who play Forza and most have HDR screens. They said "yes".

I've tried both RGB Limited and Full but the banding remains unchanged. I've noticed maybe banding in one or two other games, including FH4 (again, completely clear sky at night) but majority of games have flawless colors, including skies.

What's this then? My screen is SDR - you folks on good quality HDR screens seeing it too?

Edit:

Okay - so is it like a "fad" here to reply to only certain kinds of topics?

Sorry if I was outta line, LOL!

The FM7 Forum is kind of dead by now, there are only few people still active here, if they dont have the same issue, or dont know how to fix it i wouldnt expect a response. I havent driven a night time race in forever, but ever since the EOL of FM7 graphic glitches come and go, every new Nvidia driver messes with my game. It started with black curbs, then it was green specked asphalt, some bright pink grass, transparent asphalt, i had it all. Some drivers make it better, some worse. I wouldnt expect a fix for any issue you are having with this game. FM8 is only months away, the developers have moved on and so did 99% of the players.

It's months away? Where are you getting this? They haven't announced an official date - we haven't even seen a reveal trailer.

It is rumored to be revealed at Xbox Showcase on 23. of July and is expected to be a launching titel for the new Xbox, would be surprised if that wouldnt be the case.

Right - so this doesn't shed much light on the original thread and title, does it?

First you are crying about no one answering your question, then i answer you, telling you not to expect a answer and the reasons for it. You asked me a follow up question, which i answered, now you complain about me answering your question? 🤡

Hahaha!

It was a completely irrelevant and off-topic answer - but I'm giving you points for trying. :)

His answer wasn't off topic. They stopped patching and supporting the game. This means as drivers evolve to support other games Forza is not keeping up to make the game run properly. It's common sense. There will be anomalies and glitches. At some point you may not even be able to play it. That IS your answer. Just because you're in denial about the reality of the answer doesn't mean it isn't the answer. There are plenty of other racing titles which are updated regularly you can play and most of them are at least as good. My frame rate goes to 15fps in the car selection menu and I have to restart the game. I don't expect it to be fixed and just suck it up. Support is OVER for this game. They said it months ago.

I just did a race at night with a clear sky that transitioned from dusk into night and didn't really see any banding. If there is it is blended really well. What type of TV/monitor do you have? Cheaper sets can have heavy banding and other color issues from what I've seen. I'm assuming it's due to the screens being inferior seconds and software/firmware. I have a 32" 1080p Sony that's a higher end model (no HDR). It has really perfect shading and color accuracy. I'm REALLY picky about my monitor quality. My brother always gets the cheapest brands and his sets usually have bad banding/color blending, reds that actually turn pink as if they're oversaturated, heavy aliasing etc. Unless you have a mid-high end brand (Samsung, Sony, LG) this could be your issue. One way to know for sure is to see if you can find someone to let you hook up your system to their higher end set or decent computer monitor and see if the issue persists. If it goes away then you know it's your TV. Most people seem to go for these great TV deals all the time but honestly you get what you pay for when it comes to a TV. Most people I know have paid way less for their 50" sets than I paid for my 32" Sony. There's a reason for that.

@CW40 - thanks for the 'very relevant' answer.

Can you post shots please?

I see it only when there's a clear sky at night. I'm not seeing banding in other games' skyboxes except for maybe Ace Combat 7.

I too have a non-HDR Sony LCD from 10 years back. It's a high-end model with excellent response times and color accuracy. The colours in Shadow of TR or GOW 4 and 5, for example, are beyond outstanding in all lighting conditions - so I'm wondering why there's sky banding in F7?

Could you also mention what tracks? E.g., smooth colour transitions in the sky on Sebring, Yas or Spa? Were you using bumper view? That's important. You won't see it in cockpit or chase as that hides the skyline/horizon to some degree.

If you have a Sony/Samsung/LG then your TV definitely isn't the issue. I thought maybe you had a cheaper brand since most people seem to go for them due to pricing. I always drive hood view and I purposely raced until the sky developed a gradient so I could check for any banding. There was no obvious banding from one color to the next that I could see. Clear sky going from darker blue to a light blue/brownish hue. I'm a bit puzzled at this point. Sadly I'll be looking for a new monitor/TV soon since my Sony seems to have developed an internal crack from how crazy hot it gets at the bottom. I read this was an issue with some of the larger sets in the past. I love this set and have no clue what to replace it with. The picture seems fine but you can see the shadow of the crack and the center area of the screen is slightly darker looking now.

Shame to know about the TV - hope you find a good model.

As for mine, I think I'm sticking with it, as new TVs have far too many issues and they're expensive merely on account of adding ridiculous features that gamers don't even need or carrying the 4K/HDR label to justify the price. To be 100% frank with you, the Xbox One-X displays flawless images on my 1080p and they look crystal clear and crisp whether gaming from 5 feet away or 12 feet away.

I've noticed how the banding can pop up sometimes around light sources in games such as street lights or a flashlight. I'm starting to see a little bit of banding in Dirt Rally 2.0 as well - in the sunflare and at night when the sky is clear.... interesting!

Setting the TV to RGB (with or without YCC 422) actually masks the banding to some extent.

It's a great TV and I'm actually lucky that it can display nearly all games in their glory even today.

Is your TV a 10-bit panel by the way? Mine's 8-bit.
