First of all, i have read about methods before, that involved dragging the first screen (splash screen) with your mouse all over the desktop screen, or dragging the splash screen in circular movements. This never worked for me.

But okay, i have now tried Ggrocams' variants of those tricks. But even resizing in the ways Ggrocams describes, does not work for me.

It is the same with shadow play - it does not work. (Could people with an amd card even use shadow play?)
Wouldn't it be strange if this would actually work for everyone, despite the forza support advising against the use of overlays / OSDs, monitoring tools etc?

If it helps other people, fine, there is no harm in trying. Go for it. I am looking forward to seeing lots of comments of happy people.


I also had some tricks that seemed to help me, but all of them stopped to work after a while


According to event viewer it is an "activation" problem - the issue is called "crash hang type: activation" on the list of "know issues" for a reason. I personally doubt it has anything to do with a resolution or a resolution change - but even if it has, there seems to be nothing I can do.

Isn't it winter in the game right now? Isn't winter the least popular season? Maybe even servers that are less busy might increase the chance of the game actually making it past the splash screen? Who knows. The game still does not work for me.

It's great, that it worked for you (but don't thank me)

Would you mind telling me what exactly worked for you? Just dragging the whole splash screen window (not resizing), or resizing the window in one of the ways Ggrocams describes?

All i can say is, that i've heard of some (not all, of course) of these tricks before, but they simply don't work for me.
I don't think you can do those tricks the wrong way, right?

But in the end, it doesn't change my opinion: it is high time that Playground do finally fix this issue.

have also the same issue with opening Forza Horizon. I studied many of hours and try many of solutions, but is not working. I sent also ticket to Forza Support but is no proper solution, only random solutions. I dont have nahimic services. How many time we heared that we have to format our OS or install again game over and over. Dear advisors pls try to fix that issue, many of users has you see are impacted a long time. Please provide hotfix or solution how to launching the game.

I have also the same issue with opening Forza Horizon. I studied many of hours and try many of solutions, but is not working. I sent also ticket to Forza Support but is no proper solution, only random solutions. I dont have nahimic services. How many time we heared that we have to format our OS or install again game over and over. Dear advisors pls try to fix that issue, many of users has you see are impacted a long time. Please provide hotfix or solution how to launching the game.

I don't think you can do those tricks the wrong way, right?

But in the end, it doesn't change my opinion: it is high time that Playground do finally fix this issue.

I resized the window to the smallest possible, in a circular motion or left to right, sometimes it worked like this, sometimes like this.
I don't understand what it depends on, but it works for me, not always the first time, but the game starts

You can resize the window all you want. It's an activation issue. The only way resizing it MAY help is by delaying it a bit before the failure. But it is not fixing the actual issue. And it's a very long standing issue that needs to be fixed. I am tired of not being able to play a game I paid for.

I start the game in this way in the morning and it works all day without errors, if I need to, then I just minimize it,
but I totally agree, we paid for the game, not for finding a way to launch it

I paid full price for a product that I can’t use anymore. Are they planning to do a partial refund or any kind of compensation?
My friend is using pirated version and he still can play. How does it look like?
If this bug is in new version, why don’t they make a rollback? I can’t even play offline.
Right now, I completely lost faith in MS and Xbox products. I’m considering cancelling my Office 365 subscription and stop supporting MS financially in any way. I am really worried that any product I bought, might stop working any day due to updates and they won’t be able to fix it on time.
I’m just really disappointed at this point.

Since I'm not getting any help from the support of a billion dollar company (already created 2 tickets; no proper solution), I wanted to ask the community. Since 1,5 month I can't start my game. It starts and then it closes instantly. Sometimes it holds on for 3 seconds but then it closes again. I'm not getting past the dark gray screen with the little picture in the center. I looked into the event viewer. I found the following error message (My Windows is on German, so I had to translate it, ask me for the original):

2 weeks ago Forza Horizon 4 had an update which like anyone would i downloaded, this is where the problems began the game simply wouldn't load. The splash screen would pop up for 20 seconds and then it would crash. I then went on the internet to look for a solution I found old problems but nothing that helped. I then asked on Reddit and a user replied saying I should reinstall the game without the add-ons which I did and nothing. I then moved the game to my main drive hoping this would work but nope. It has now been 2 weeks and nothing works I have sent 3 tickets into the support and nothing. Then i tried to reach them on twitter and nothing. I understand because of the pandemic it will mean less employees working meaning longer times but an error as crucial as the game not loading shouldn't take over 2 weeks to fix. I know I have to be patient and wait for the fix but I am very annoyed i have missed out on seasonal cars and generally not being able to play the game.

Looks like I've joined the club as well. The problem started on Win 1909, still the same after updating to 2004. Reinstalled the game overnight, no success.

The "Hang type: Activation" issue on PC is a prime example of what we were warned about with aggressive copy-protection affecting paying customers. I downloaded and can play the FH4 Demo on the same PC, installed on the same drive without issue.

This is comically bad and should be a fairly easy fix, yet here we are almost a year later...

After my recent update to Windows 10 vers. 2004, I had three major issues. First, I had to downgrade my nvidia drivers back to what came with 2004. Second, I had to disable Realtek HD audio manager. And, third, I had to disable G-synch to get everything running stable and without microstutters. As usual, the audio managers tend to be the cause if you lock up at the transition point just before you take control of a car.

As for the Teredo issue, I also had to rename the ipv6 dns server.

It took them 8 days to figure out it was a known issue. Good luck, is all I have to say. If this issue hasn't been fixed in the past 9 months, you can expect it to not be fixed in the next 9 months. It's unfortunate, because this is the only game I cannot play. All other games, even games from the Microsoft Studios, work without a hitch. However, this is not the first time I've had issues with Forza Horizon 4. For 5 months, I couldn't play one of the DLCs I paid for. Forza Support's response after 3 months of not being able to play it? "I am marking this ticket as "Solved"." It eventually did work, though I have no idea why. There was no forum post, hotfix update, or follow-up response to my ticket. So, good luck. Maybe one day they will fix it.

Its been six month i cant launch my 120 € game .... this is outrageous. Even spent 4 hour on phone with microsoft, they just kept transfering me because they did not know what to do ...

just disable the stupid authentification ... everyone that wanted did already pirate the game ... its just preventing legit customer from using their product ...

I bought every forza horizon game avalaible on PC and i wont buy the next one thats for sure ....
