Managed to get 39.499 with a controller. So just...

Given how much faster I went as soon I switched from controller to wheel, that's arguably more impressive than the #1 time!

Re motivation for this event, my motivation has always mainly been that the monthly bounty hunter rivals have lots of people taking part in them, so it's a chance to compete against lots of people. Isn't being able to tell people that you beat an IndyCar world champion enough motivation?

What's more fun is to go to an IndyCar race and tell Josef directly that you beat him. :-)

Speaking of Newgarden, he set his initial time.

39.466

Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth from controller users begin.

I started at 39.9xx and knocked my time down to 39.607 with a controller. This might be the motivation I need to dust off the old Xbox 360 Fanatec wheel and see if the DriveHub converter I got for Xmas works.

Thanks! This is what I came here for. So far I'm down to 39.635. Looks like I might need to do another session lol

Got down to 39.533 and just hit a wall. (Often, literally.) Looks like I have some work to do.

Edit: 39.514. I'm at IMS right now; need to go kiss the bricks and see if they'll loan me a little speed.

I also got rid of the ghost, as it was just too distracting when so close ahead. Down to 39.464, world #44, top 0.24%. I feel there's more to come yet, will try some more another time. Kudos to Dartman Dan at #28.
Thank you for the shout out😊 That seems to be about my limit though as I probably ran another 75 laps and I could get very close but never blue....I am amazed at how fast some of these times are.....

Managed to edge ahead of you with 39.435. Took me 61 laps. There were several before that where my split said I could do .43x if only I could match my best 2nd half, but it took me 61 laps to string it all together in the same lap. I agree, each hundredth is huge, it was really hard to take those 3 hundredths off, I've no idea how I'd take another 10 off to match world #1.

you should be very proud. That time is soooo hard to get. Like you said turns 1 and 2 seem to be easier to be fast but I seem to give it all back in 3 and 4. I have been up at the split but Give it all back and I have not been up enough to beat your new AWESOME time, even before giving it all back.....at least not yet....LOL
Very well done!!!!

If Forza would let me play on the PC with the wheel I would probably give it a go.

But I find the controller too inconsistent to get good oval times on the Xbox, and my dexterity isn't what it used to be.

Sad to see the bounty hunters go. These are pretty much my favorite things in the game. I wasn't around for the 2018 event, this one is looking really fun. I can see myself putting hours into this, and once again I feel like I'm learning a lot with every lap. Already thought I put in a pretty good time, turns out I'm near the bottom of my friends list. :) Which is a good start! Guess I'll have to dust off the wheel as well.

You would think that setting a good time on an oval would be easy, but no. I can barely make it past 40 seconds! But this is a great thematic event leading up to the Indy 500!

Honestly I thought this year was a lot easier. I only put in a few laps full throttle never lifted. Key is not scrubbing off speed in the turns. Last year event you had to be careful not to hit the limiter as well. I got a 39.902. Now if I can find the time to put in some serious laps maybe I can knock that down some. I am pretty slow so if I can do this I am pretty sure anyone can. And I used a controller. Almost all assists off except auto clutch. Auto or manual clutch should not matter in this at all because once you get to top speed in 6th you never lift off. I can take 1 and 2 pretty fast but seem to loose time in 3 and 4. You do have to be very smooth with steering inputs and hold the angle in the turns. Not easy to do with a controller.

Newgarden and Jack Harvey lowered their times. Harvey is in the 39.5's. Not sure where Newgarden is at, but he says he thinks he can get into the 39.3's
Hinchcliffe also set his initial time today at 39.537. Leist set his initial time a couple of days ago. I don't remember what it was.

Best I can tell from their twitter videos they're all using the same wheel/pedal setup at the speedway.

I'll take a pass through the LB tonight and see where the bounties are at.

They start practice tomorrow for the Indy 500 qualifying. I'd be surprised if any of the drivers improve or set times until after qualifications are over next Sunday. Hopefully none of them get bumped from the field.

I can barely get a better lap time than a friend of a friend who only started playing back in February and hasn't even turned most of his assists off yet. So I'm not holding out much hope of getting a better time than actual IndyCar drivers.

A 39.399 would put him at #19 in the world while #1 is currently 39.335. Daly is currently #22. 39.499 is currently #223, so there's a significantly larger pool in that next .1 tier. Down in my range 39.899 puts you at #5300 which is outside the top 10% of 47,341 times worldwide.

I’m happy right now. I just broke into the 39s with a 39.936 with a controller. I may not be setting any records but I’m pretty happy with that since I don’t have a wheel. These 2019 cars are more punishing for any over inputs in the turns so it’s tougher than last time to set a good time on a controller. Fun times.

I've thought on and off about getting a wheel. I haven't because they're a little more than I'm willing to spend right now, and I've heard that Forza is really optimized for controller anyway. But after this challenge, I kinda want one. Maybe they're better for P and X classes? I don't know.

I managed to squeeze in a 39.534 I think, previous one was 39.538 and I play with a controller.
If it helps anyone here's, to be more gentle with turn ins, I keep the analog stick pushed straight forwards non stop, so when I have to turn, I just keep pushing forwards and nudge it a little to the left and I can get pretty smooth into the turns.

I'm just having tiny issues putting all turns perfectly together with a controller, I can imagine posting a 39.45x if I get a wheel, but anything beyond that, respect! :)

Set my first time with only a few laps at a 39.902. Did a longer session with some help from Fireball whiskey and set a 39.88x. I use a controller.
