November 6, 2018
by SOY

The November update for Forza Motorsport 7 launched today. The November update includes some important changes in Forza Motorsport 7, including the removal of prize crates, the introduction of Race Shop, physics changes that affect collisions between cars in game, and more. For the full rundown on those changes, see our announcement story.

Due to the removal of prize crates, we have made an important chance to our Forza Rewards programs. Instead of receiving prize crates per Tier, new Forza Motorsport 7 players will receive Mod cards per Tier. For the full rundown of what cards are available per Rewards Tier, check out November 2nd edition of the Forza Week in Review.

In addition to various localization and UI improvements, this update addresses several issues in the game. See below for all the details.

GENERAL
Fixed an issue where Drift leaderboards were only viewable in the post-race screen of a Drift game type event.
Fixed an issue where, when entering the Auction House via Message Center and then returning to Message Center with the “B” button, the only available tab would be the Auction House.
Fixed an issue where player who purchased FM7 VIP pack would receive a “Failed to Acquire VIP Rewards” message after entering the title.
Fixed an issue where, when taking a photo of a car in ForzaVista mode and then returning to the Message Center from the main menu, all tabs and messages would be missing.
Added an available Reward Count to Driver Level Rewards screen.
Fixed starting location on Spa-Francorchamps track map during the pre-race UI scene.
Fixed an issue where suspension values would max out after tuning while in Test Drive.
Fixed an issue where entering Photo Mode with a wheel and then exiting the mode with a controller would cause both wheel and controller to lose all racing functionality.
Re-aligned UI elements in Digital Speedometer HUD option.
Fixed an issue in Message Center where navigating between tabs using a mouse does not change what messages are being viewed.
Fixed an exploit in drift Rivals events, where players could post a combined 2-lap score to the leaderboard.
Fixed an exploit where, when a player car’s PI was higher than the race restrictions, players could homologate car to stock parts and start the race without losing upgrades.
Fixed an issue where a player would attempt to install a valid tune from the pre-race screen and would be met with an “illegal tune” message.
PC players can now enter the main menu by clicking the mouse on the Start Screen.

MULTIPLAYER
Fixed an issue where using the “Enter” key on a keyboard while voting for the next track in multiplayer would also inadvertently select the highlighted option on the background menu.
In Open Drift Track Day hoppers, tracks no longer specify a lap count to complete the race.
Fixed an issue in Multiplayer: Unlimited Drag where countdown HUD was missing “0” numeral in front of “3” and “2” during “3, 2, 1” countdown.
Fixed an issue where PC players could not use the mouse to change race grid order.
Fixed an issue where a player who was kicked from a lobby after finishing a race will have his/her Gamertag missing from the race ticker/race telemetry/distance ahead HUD screens.

DRIVATARS
Fixed an issue where Drivatar opponents consistently drive off track on certain tracks, including Rio Full Circuit and Mountain Circuit, Alps Festival Circuit and Stadtplatz, and Sonoma Short Circuit. 300521 301520,

CARS
Corrected name consistency issues in the game for the 2016 Honda Civic Type R and the 2016 Jaguar F-Type Project 7 Forza Edition.

FREE PLAY
Fixed a Free Play exploit where players could race against cars in much lower divisions by upgrading their car while the track was loading or after the track was loaded.
Fixed an issue where, in Free Play, when restricting races to certain makes and models, no Drivatar cars would be present in the race.
Fixed an issue where setting Track Scenario to Rain does not auto set Start Race Scenario to rainy weather when in Test Drive.
Fixed an issue where players could control the car during the standing start cinematic in a Free Play race.
Corrected the name of a HUD tab in a Free Play drift event from “Race Time” to “Drift Score.”

LIVERY EDITOR
Fixed an issue on PC where players could not select the large “previous/current color” tile with a mouse.
Fixed an issue where Car Select/All Cars tile was inconsistent with Buy and Rent Car tiles in other parts of the game.

SPECTATE
In Spectate mode, distance gaps for cars that are more than one lap behind the leader are now correct.
Fixed an issue in Spectate mode where, when turning on and off the ticker in a race with less than four racers, the ticker animation would behave unexpectedly.
Fixed an issue in Spectate mode, where the Race Banner would not fade out and in properly if turned off and on.
Fixed an issue where, while in Spectate, changing the car results in the mini-map moving slightly when zoomed in.
Improved mouse and keyboard functionality when navigating Spectate menus.

New Collision Model
While nearly everyone tries to avoid them, collisions are a part of racing. With the November update, we have implemented some important physics updates that significantly change collisions in the game. These changes can be found across three different areas of the game:

1) We’ve improved energy dissipation between bodies, as well as the way tire friction is calculated during a collision. This is a global change, which results in “softer” collisions, where collisions absorb energy and the collision impulse happens over a longer period of time.

2) In multiplayer events, collisions are now resolved locally and blended when the game receives an update from other player(s) in the same multiplayer match. Effectively this means that multiplayer collisions now work like single-player collisions, even in high-latency scenarios.

3) A new Collision Assist setting scales the amount of body rotation a car can impart on another car in a crash. Players can choose to turn the Collision Assist on or off and players will have the option to create lobbies that use this assist (or ones that do not). This collision assist is meant to curb griefing; and a car hit by a car with this assist engaged will also receive the assist.

The sum of these changes means that contact and collisions feel much different in Forza 7 with this update. Car contact when side by side will result in fewer spins; tandem drifters will find that their cars will be more tolerant of tiny taps than before, and griefers dive-bombing into Turn 1 will have less of an effect on the rest of the field than before. In all, the new collision model is meant to bring car-to-car contact more in line with the real world, and also make the experience for players of all skill levels that much better.

Race Shop
Prize crates are gone and the Race Shop is here! The new Race Shop feature gives players the option to purchase Mod cards, Driver Gear, and Badges whenever they like. The Race Shop is found in a new tile on the main menu page of Forza Motorsport 7. The item lineup in the Race Shop is a mixture of Mod cards, Driver Gear, and badges, and the inventory for the Race Shop refreshes every six minutes. In the Race Shop, players can purchase items using in-game credits. These items will vary in cost based on the type of item and its rarity. Driver Gear and badges appearing in the Race Shop that a player already owns will be shown darkened out and won’t be available for purchase, but players will be able to purchase Mod cards that they might already have in their collection.

One important note for new Forza 7 players: As we announced in Friday’s edition of the Week in Review, we’ve replaced the prize crates that were part of our Forza Rewards programs for new Forza 7 players with Mod cards. New players will now receive Race Mod cards, depending on their Forza Rewards Tier level.

Ugh. In reality, every car in that division can fit into another division in the game, it makes 0 sense....
Rules of troubleshooting:
1) Have you tried turning it off and on again?
2) Is your Internet working?
3) https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status < Check here for service issues.
4) If all else fails open a service ticket and/or forum post.

Collisions are great but we still only have one spec hopper. Sick of playing "choose the best tune" racing. Where's that sweet cycled production?

There are some positive changes in this latest update & I dont think anyone can complain about the free Porsche.Good stuff.
It is a good direction the game is going in but it does show just how badly the game was executed on release.A great racing game should not have been built on a massive & varied car collection, some re-heated old tracks, firesuits & upgraded graphics.Other games have just left Forza so far behind when for years it has been ahead.

I think Forza in the future really needs to focus on the "Motorsport" in the game with much more realism.Employ some advisors from the real motorsports world to make the game much more realistic.Drivers,Crew chiefs, racing journalists, bloggers & fans. The games developers seem to be more "car guys"than "racing guys".The game looks like it has been developed for Jalopnik readers rather than Motorsport.com or Autosport website fans.

Sporting side of Forza
Why in career do you start in 12th?Choose grid place or have qualifying.
After 13 years & 7 versions why is there no option for qualifying?
No flags.
No option to choose which AI you race against(Was in Forza 4)
No Championships or points (Was in Forza 3 I think)
No close racing even in one make series.Same old AI that goes way out front.

Motorsport missing from Forza
Rally Cross
Off road trucks
Top Fuel/Funny Car Dragsters
Hillclimb cars/tracks
Time Attack Cars
Short track ovals
Banger racing/Destruction Derby

The game does not need to be a hardcore sim.Just a great casual motorsport game.

Yuuuup. That really, really sucks. I was all ready to go complete all my Elite Open events with the 917/30 in the Early Prototype Racers or Prototype Group Racing category, both categories that would be a perfect fit for this car. Dumb choice on behalf of T10 to not let players do so.

They SO OFTEN manage to do this; start out so, so well (in this case, including the car in the game) and mucking it up somehow. Other examples I can think of include bringing us the gimmicky version of the first 917, or not putting the 804 and Type 35 in the Open Wheel Legends category. Since I don't multiplay, I really don't see when I'm going to use this car.

I don't see a SINGLE WAY -- not one -- the 917/30 fits in a category that includes vans, the Prowler, a limo, a police car/taxicab, those gawdawful Toyota trucks, and a Frankenstein Miata. I would LOVE to see T10's logic on this one; maybe it has something to do with McLaren not wanting players to race against their car in the very car that ended their annual stranglehold on the Can-Am Championship IRL? Please tell me they can fix this. Ess Em 8ch.

It's gotta be a bizarre combination of laziness and utter stupidity on Turn 10's part. They're either too lazy to implement balancing for the Forza Specials cars to fit in their PROPER divisions, or they're too stupid to know where they go in the first place (Toyota Trophy Truck isn't grouped with the other Trophy Trucks? Can-Am racer isn't grouped with the other Can-Am racers? Bulky offroaders not grouped with the other offroaders? Hot Wheels for some reason don't get their own division like FD, Hoonigan and F&F? The list literally will not end).

No mention of fixing the cars disappearing from multiplayer races when they pit... Although not surprising since Turn 10 haven't publicly acknowledged it yet.

Really hurting the organized racing options.

Currently redownloading the full game along with the update thanks to my xbox losing internet connection (supposedly) and not being able to reconnect to my router (router was fine the whole time), and thinking that a hard reset would resolve the issue (which it did), what i didn't know was that FM7 was updating the entire time prior to the reset. I had no idea that it was updating as it never showed up under the updates section nor did it show FM7 was updating; I'm thinking this was due to the latest preview program update, so if anyone else is in the program be aware of this.

Also having slow internet makes it worse, been downloading since 2 pm EST

Really happy with the fixes so far. Suspension telemetry is a big one for me. That being fixed makes the world of difference in this update straight away, The new collisions are fantastic and really welcomed. They're much more realistic, more fun, thousand times better online and just makes the game so much more enjoyable. The Forzathon Shop is fantastic. Love how it updates every 6 minutes, I think that was a neat idea. New, content, can't complain at that. A plethora of bug fixes and improvements to the game is really nice.

Overall outstanding work. Sure I wanted the FFB & Race Regulations too but patience is key.

So when do we get the new FE Pontiac GTA TA . . I’ve completed the Rivals that it was scheduled to. Will it be rewarded on the next full start up, or in the Eecember Update.

The Lamboghinie Diablo GTR we were supposed to get for participating in one of last months Rivals, did NOT appear in my update or free cars or Rewards . . Any tips ppl?

As for the Pontiac, it seems we will have to wait to December if it's a monthly rivals price.

The Diablo I'm pretty sure it will come soon this month.

"Forza Specials" are T10's way of making cars unusable within the confines of the homologated division system of racing which the game thrusts upon us.

Yes, it is. And there's nothing wrong with that. The real car was absurdly overpowered next to its competitors and to put it in Prototype Group Racing would've meant a level of nerf higher than what the 935/78 got. The 935 had 850 bhp in reality and must race with 550-ish when homologated, which is a problem on high speed tracks when it generates so much downforce and has only four gears.

The 917/30 is at P920 on slicks and Prototype Group Racing is R850 on vintage grooved tires. There's simply no way to balance it. You'd have to bring the others on par with it, which would've meant boosting their upgrades and therefore ruining tunes.

A similar situation occurred with the Porsche 804, which was too weak to go up against the other F1 cars, even when fully upgraded, so it got put in Forza Specials. This division is not for junk, nor "joke cars", it's for cars that can't fit into any division, for various reasons. Again, nothing is stopping you from going into Advanced Restrictions and creating a field of 60s F1 cars with the 804 in it.

You can easily make custom races in Free Play, so what's the problem? I really don't get you guys, one day the homologation is bad, the other you yearn for it. Few people play the career anymore, so there's no loss there either. And, before you mention "end the homologation", the 917/30 can't reach top of P-class either. :)

If the car is so over-powered then de-tune it like other cars have been. Why aren't the Chiron and Focus RS in the Specials division as well? Lets not get hung-up on realism.
