SERIES 9 - discussion
  • "The latest update for Forza Horizon 4 has arrived. As you may have seen during Playground Games’ livestream debut of the new update, this update is packed with fun events, new cars to drive, and more. On the features side, the Series 9 update starts with the introduction of Custom Adventures, one of the most requested features from the Forza community. Accessible from the Online Adventure tab in the main menu, Custom Adventures now let you create your own Online Adventure and matchmake with like-minded players all over the world."
  • "Series 9 also brings a new Horizon Story called “The Car Files,” featuring a series of events set in the exciting world of car insurance! No seriously, you need to go check it out (look for it in this week’s Festival Playlist). Then there’s the new 80s-themed Showcase Remix of the original Delta-Wing Showcase event, which definitively proves my childhood theory that the Lamborghini Countach could, in fact, beat a fighter jet in a 1-on-1 race."
  • "Perhaps most exciting for FH4 players who love to go online, the Series 9 update includes some new anti-griefing features around wall-riding and collisions that we’re already hearing are making online racing a better place."
  • "Then there are the cars! In addition to a quartet of fun MINI models (including the not-so-mini MINI X-RAID John Cooper Works Buggy), players will also be able to earn the 2018 Apollo Intensa Emozione, a hypercar that’s known more for its insane downforce than its pure top speed. Coming it at a cool $2.7 million in the real world, you won’t want to miss the chance to grab this car when it becomes available in the Spring season of Series 9."

CAR MASTERY FIX UPDATE - https://twitter.com/forza_support
  • "Since the launch of the Series 9 update, we have become aware of an issue where some players’ Car Mastery skills were being reset after installing the update. The team at Playground Games is aware of this issue and are expecting to release a fix by Monday, May 13. In the meantime, we recommend that players NOT spend any Car Mastery Skill Points before this fix is released. Keep up to date with the latest by following the Forza Support Twitter handle."
  • "The Car Mastery Skill Points fix is now live in #ForzaHorizon4. We are now working on a fix to return all players’ lost Skill Points. We are expecting this fix to be live with or before the Series 10 update. 1/2" "As a thank you, we will be gifting all affected players with 10 Super Wheel Spins. These gifts will be available beginning on May 13th, 2019. 2/2" ^

#AlongForTheRide livestream
  • "Long-time visitors to FM.net will remember Johniwanna’s written series “Heavy Metal Affliction,” where he would spotlight interesting cars and their owners. We’ve taken that HMA concept and evolved it into a video series that we’re calling “Along For the Ride.” Episode 1 featured a Honda Civic widebody that was rebuilt to resemble a Renault 5 Turbo. This past Wednesday, we aired Episode 2, a loving tribute to the classic Jeep Grand Wagoneer. https://youtu.be/Ij5kYdh37Kw "
  • Each week, alongside the short films, Johniwanna hosts a livestream featuring the owners and other guests to talk about their well-loved rides. Look for Episode 3, which will debut alongside our livestream broadcast at 1 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, May 16."

#FORZAFRIDAY LIVESTREAM
  • "Hot on the heels of the Series 9 update for Forza Horizon 4, we’ll be welcoming Terrance Newell to today’s edition of #ForzaFriday. As part of Turn 10’s publishing team, Terrance has been working with Playground on the Forza Horizon series since the very beginning. We’ll be chatting with “T” (as he’s known) about his career as an art director and what it’s like working on the Horizon series. Bring your questions and get ready to race in both Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7! The show starts at 3 p.m. Pacific on the official Forza Twitch and Mixer channels."

Forza Week in Review 5-17-19
Brian Ekberg
Friday, May 17, 2019
www.forzamotorsport.net/news/wir_5_17_19

Quote:
In today’s edition of the Forza Week in Review, we’re enjoying Autumn in Forza Horizon 4, celebrating the upcoming 103rd Indy 500 in Forza Motorsport 7, welcoming guests to #ForzaFriday, and wondering when some intrepid painters are going to get around to recreating these liveries in Forza. Let’s get to it!

AUTUMN CONTENT - discussion thread
  • "Autumn in Series 9 has arrived in Forza Horizon 4 and that means new events and new car rewards. You already probably know about the Series 9 Reward cars – the Quartz Regalia (50% completion) and the Hot Wheels Bone Shaker (80% completion). With the Autumn season, there are two amazing cars up for grabs in the Maserati MC 12 Corsa (50% completion) and the Peugeot 204 Forza Edition (80% completion)."
  • "Apart from this season’s Festival Playlist events, don’t forget about the new Horizon Stories series, “The Car Files.” Here, you’re working to prove (or disprove) car performance feats with the help of an insurance claims adjustor. Drive a BMW Isetta at 85 mph for 30 seconds; jump a Reliant Supervan; drag race a Morris Minor -- it’s all things that probably shouldn’t happen when driving a car in the real world which, when you think about it, is practically why car insurance exists in the first place. You can find “The Car Files” Horizon Stories series in the Autumn Festival Playlist or on the map not far from Bamburgh Castle."

CAR MASTERY PERKS / SKILL POINTS FIX
  • "In last week’s Week in Review, we mentioned that the team was investigating a bug where players’ Car Mastery points were being reset. This week, the Playground Games team issued an update for the game which fixed this issue, returning lost Car Mastery points to affected players. While the fix does not restore previously purchased car perks, players can use those refunded Car Mastery points as they like. Note that players with more than 999 Car Mastery points on hand will not earn more until they have spent enough points to go below 999."
  • "For more on this update and others, check out the Forza Horizon 4 page on our Support site."

#FORZAFRIDAY
  • "If you’re familiar with our Bounty Hunter events, or have watched “Forza Monthly” in the past, you’ll likely recognize today’s #ForzaFriday guest, Jennifer Lane. On today’s show we’ll be talking about Jenn’s career and focusing on the work she does as Engagement Design Director for Turn 10. We’ll also be running some laps in the Brickyard Bounty Hunter and playing Forza Motorsport 7 with viewers. Tune in when the show goes live at 3 p.m. Pacific on the official Forza Mixer and Twitch channels."

NEXT WEEK
  • Livestream schedule May 20-26
  • "One final note: Next week, I’ll be at the ForzaRC test we mentioned in last Friday’s WIR. Due to the busy schedule of the week, we will not have an edition of the Forza Week in Review on Friday, May 24. We’ll return to our regular weekly schedule with the May 31 edition of the Week in Review. See you then!"

After a week-long hiatus the Week in Review is back! I spent last week in Burbank, CA for our Forza Racing Championship test event. It was great to get back into the swing of things with the ForzaRC, even if for only a few days. The team learned a lot during that time and we look forward to sharing more with Forza fans in the future.

It’s good to be back, so let’s dive in!

SPRING CONTENT
  • "Alongside the warmer weather is the availability of the Apollo Intensa Emozione, a car we showed off at the beginning of the month on “Forza Monthly,” and one of the most eagerly anticipated reward cars in recent memory for Forza Horizon 4 players. You can find the Apollo in the “The Trial” event, which is easily accessible from the Festival Playlist screen."
  • "Elsewhere in Forza Horizon 4, the spring season is bringing new seasonal reward cars, including the Buick GSX and the 1988 BMW M5 Forza Edition. Don’t forget about the Series reward cars as well – the Quartz Regalia and the Hot Wheels Bone Shaker."

#FORZAFRIDAY LIVESTREAM
  • "No guest today on #ForzaFriday; instead we’ll be hanging out and mixing it up between Forza Horizon 4 (hour 1) and Forza Motorsport 7 (hour 2). The show begins at 3 p.m. Pacific on the Forza Mixer and Twitch channel, so don’t miss it."

SERIES 10 LIVESTREAM PREVIEW
  • "The Series 10 update for Forza Horizon 4 arrives next week and Playground Games will be celebrating with a livestream on Monday, June 3 starting at 6 p.m. BST. Look for special guests from the PG team on hand to run you through the latest updates to the game. Tune in to the Forza channel on the platform of your choice (Mixer, Twitch, and YouTube) and get ready for a fun show!"
  • @WeArePlayground: "We know you're excited about the expansion but we won't be discussing this in stream. We are hard at work & are super excited about how well it is coming along."

Forza Horizon 4 | Series 10 Update
Brian Ekberg
Tuesday, June 4, 2019
www.forzamotorsport.net/news/fh4_series_10

Quote:
Series 10 for Forza Horizon 4 arrives this week and is bringing new cars, new events to the Festival Playlist, and more. Foremost among the new cars this series is the astonishing Rimac C_TWO, the 1,900-hp all-electric beast that looks to change the very definition of “hypercar” going forward. With two separate motors powering individual rear wheels, the Rimac is capable of 0-60 mph in about 1.8 seconds, and a gear-regulated top speed of 250 mph.

Other cars coming during the Series 10 timeframe include the Cadillac Limo, the Bentley Continental Forza Edition, the Fiat Dino and the AMC Rebel, which is making its debut in Forza Horizon 4 here with Series 10.

Star Card

New for Series 10 is the Star Card, a high-speed checklist for all the different event types in Forza Horizon 4. By bringing up the Star Card feature from the menu, you can track your progress across six different event types in the game: Racing, PR Stunts, Exploring, Creation, Story, and Adventure.

Under each event type, players will find tracking for various activities throughout the game. For example, under the Racing category, you’ll earn completion by driving 5,000 miles in the game, winning Showcase (or Showcase Remix) events, or winning 50 head-to-head races, among other activities. Progression through each category event is represented by bronze (started), silver (halfway) and gold (complete) coloring. Once you complete a category, you’ll earn a flair item you can use next to your Gamertag in game.

Note there are some known issues with the Star Card feature, including getting credit for past accomplishments and discoveries being counted in the current Star Card implementation. For example, Showcase/Showcase Remix events won before this update will not count towards Star Card; this is because those items were not previously tracked by the game. In order to count on the Star Card going forward, players will have to re-race Showcase/Showcase Remix events.

For more on Star Car known issues, refer to the Series 10 Release Notes on the Forza Support site.

Festival Playlist
Players can now start matchmaking for Seasonal Playground Games and The Trial event directly from the Festival Playlist screen. Also, when checking the list of eligible cars for a Seasonal Championship, the game now correctly includes cars that are eligible even if they can’t be purchased for the Autoshow.

Playground Games: "Crunch has no place in modern development"
The Forza Horizon developer on its new studio, and the transition to running a game as a live service
James Batchelor. UK Editor
Friday 7th June 2019
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-06-07-playground-games-crunch-has-no-place-in-modern-development

Quote:
...

Fulton reiterates that the live service team is dedicated solely to updating Forza Horizon 4, which avoids diverting resources from the inevitable sequel or its unannounced project. Far from management pressuring them to maintain the pace of additions to the game, conversations between Fulton and the live team suggest that the biggest pressure comes from the community.

"They feel like they have to do it, like there's outcry for this particular thing, or on occasions something we've already said we'd fix," he said. "As an example, wall riding was an issue in our online game, we said we'd fix it but we didn't have the perfect solution -- [the team] felt a real pressure to deliver for the fans. But we've been quite clear with them that, because the live service could theoretically run forever, crunch cannot be an option... And they've avoided it for the period that they've been doing live service.

"The tax for doing a live program isn't so much long hours, late nights, or the things you'd typically think of as crunch. It's just that it's always going. Game development is intense and then relaxed, intense then relaxed -- it's a cycle. With a live service, there's something you need to do every day."

Raeburn added: "They go on the forums, they all see the comments, and it's hard not to get caught up wanting to do the best. That's fantastic, but there's nothing in force. It's almost the opposite. We've said we're happy to be supportive of the team, but if you're feeling the pressure, it's fine. We can change the plans, we can accommodate that and make sure there's more time in the schedule to account for the unknown issues that always arise."

The challenge, then, lies in tempering community expectations. Playground's story echoes that of Path of Exile developer Grinding Gears, which recently said it feels like fans want them to crunch to meet their demands. Fulton believes it's unlikely a fanbase could ever be told to operate with restraint when asking for new content, so the onus lies on the live service team to make transparent and realistic promises.

"The team has to be clear in communicating, 'This is what we're going to do, this is when we're going to aim to have it out there' -- and the community generally responds really positively to that. Even if you're telling them something they don't want to hear, like something's not going to get fixed or might take a little longer than they expect. It's when you go silent that it becomes a problem."

Raeburn added: "They never like surprises. That's another thing we learned. Just be as open as you can, be honest about upcoming features and what might not make it. That always goes down better."

E3 2019: Everything is Awesome in Forza Horizon 4: LEGO Speed Champions

The team at Playground Games had me at “LEGO…”

Already a tremendous fan of these amazing plastic bricks, my imagination immediately ran wild with what a crossover between Forza Horizon 4 and LEGO world could look like. Now after spending an hour with Forza Horizon 4: LEGO Speed Champions, this expansion both surprises and exceeds my expectations.

By harnessing the playful and comedic tone established by the likes of “The LEGO Movie,” and the already impressive open-world tech and competitive racing of Forza Horizon 4, this expansion drops you behind the wheel of three life-sized vehicles modeled brick-for-brick from actual kits in a can’t miss expansion for an already fantastic game.

image: https://news.xbox.com/en...eBeach_Screenshot-1.jpg

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Mini Pirate Beach Screenshot
For my hands-on time at E3, I played with the 1967 Mini Cooper S Rally (a.k.a. a super-powered Mini Cooper), a meticulously detailed LEGO Speed Champions vehicle that handles just as well as its real-life Forza Horizon 4 counterpart that can also be tweaked and adjusted to your liking (e.g. suspension, tire pressure, etc.). The two other LEGO Speed Champions cars available in are the McLaren Senna and the Ferrari F40 Competizione.

Closely examining the in-game LEGO car models reveal an impressive amount of detail. Using the same number of polygons to recreate these vehicles as that of the realistic-looking cars found in Forza Horizon 4. This high level of detail compliments the stellar lighting effects that capture the slight translucent nature of these plastic bricks and the car models themselves, all the way down to the single studs revealing the embossed LEGO trademark. Even the stickers that are placed on the models, used to represent a door handle or a license plate, replicate that pressed-on-sticker look like that of an actual LEGO model. All of that is here. You’re racing with the most realistic looking LEGO models ever put in a game.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari Race Screenshot
The cars are just the icing on the cake of the new LEGO themed world that’s ready to be discovered. There’s nine zones featured in Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions, each with a tremendous amount of variety for you to explore from Pirate’s Cove that’s full of (you guessed it) pirate ships, a desert featuring dinosaur skeletons, a full-fledged racetrack to compete on, a meticulously crafted downtown featuring sets from the LEGO City series, complete with minifigs hanging out in cafes and patios, and a theme park that’s called the Super Mega Awesome Adventure Stunt Park, because of course it is. There’s a lot packed into this new world that contains about 10 to 15 hours more of gameplay and will deliver seasonal changes as well affecting the world through winter, autumn, summer, and spring.

The thing that’s driving you to explore this new world, other than checking it out because it’s totally worth exploring, is home ownership. The LEGO Brick Challenge Campaign rewards you with bricks needed to build up your Master Builder’s House, which is needed to collect the remaining LEGO cars. You earn these bricks by selecting and completing challenges – PR stunts, races, etc. – or by exploring this new map and stumbling upon challenges even if they are not being tracked, like the new speed ramps and destruction challenges. And as your house and brick collection grows, so does your garage and your capacity to collect the remaining LEGO cars in the game.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Senna Group Race Screenshot
Some of the other features of this expansion is that you can “fast track” to this new world within 10 minutes of starting the game by choosing the Fast Track to LEGO Speed Champions option from the main menu. This is a change from the previous expansions in that you’d have to progress to a certain point to be allowed travel to the new zone. So, if you’re relatively new to Forza Horizon 4, know that the expansion can be accessed very early in your driving career.

You’re also not limited to only driving the LEGO vehicles in the LEGO themed world. If you’d rather drive around a LEGO city in a Ford Mustang, or if you’d like to bring the unlocked LEGO vehicles back into the the full game map of Britain of Forza Horizon 4, you can do that too.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Crash Debris Screenshot
And while everything is awesome, the most awesome part of this news is we only have to wait a few days to experience this expansion – Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions launches worldwide on June 13 on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions will cost $19.99 and is included at no additional cost for players who own the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition, the Forza Horizon 4 Expansions Bundle or the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle. Xbox Game Pass members have access to the standard edition of Forza Horizon 4 and are eligible for 10% off a standalone purchase or 10% off the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle.

Forza Week in Review 6-14-19

Quote:
Another Forza E3 is in the books! Playground Games’ LEGO Speed Champions Expansion for Forza Horizon 4 was front and center from the show floor at the Microsoft Theater, as well as on stage during last Sunday’s Xbox Press Briefing. In addition, we took “Forza Monthly” on the road for the very first time. Whether you were with us this the entire time or are just now getting caught up, let’s get you caught up with a recap of E3 2019 week. Welcome to the Forza Week in Review.

FORZA & LEGO TAKE THE STAGE
The LEGO Speed Champions expansion for Forza Horizon 4 was the big news for Forza fans at E3 2019. Featuring a mixture of Forza Horizon 4’s gameplay, events, and brick-collecting fun alongside a healthy dose of LEGO DNA, including that trademark LEGO humor, the expansion is unlike any LEGO-themed game before it. As LEGO’s own Chris Stamp put it to me this week, this was the notion from the very beginning – to bring the two worlds together in a way that neither team had done before.

You can now play the results for yourself, as the expansion launched on Thursday of this week. Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition owners get the LEGO expansion for no additional charge.

If you were on hand at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, you couldn’t miss the Forza section on stage. In addition to having lots of kiosks for fans to play the expansion demo, as well as a sled with wheel and pedal setup, the Forza section also featured its illustrious centerpiece: the LEGO McLaren Senna. Built from hundreds of thousands of individual LEGO bricks and weighing in at more than 3,300 lbs, the LEGO McLaren Senna is a LEGO master building marvel. Sitting inside the tight-fit cockpit, fans could also enjoy the interior amenities, such as a working info panel where you could turn on the headlights or check out the rear-view mirror. Pressing the big red button on the ceiling started the Senna’s “engine”, which could also rev with a press of the gas pedal.

The LEGO demo itself had fans lining up to take a go in the virtual Senna (and the LEGO-fied Mini Cooper) on a high-speed race through LEGO Valley, complete with UFO crashes, zipping through ghost-filled forests and past pirate coves, airports, and more. Fans who completed the demo were awarded with one of three collectible Forza pins featuring LEGO characters donning Forza race suits.

On Thursday of this week, Playground Games celebrated the launch of the LEGO Expansion with a special launch day livestream, live from Playground HQ:

Video: LEGO Launch Day Stream

To celebrate the launch of the LEGO Speed Champions expansion, we’ve got a challenge for Forza Horizon 4 players. Record your best video clips having fun in the world of LEGO Speed Champions and post the links to this thread in the forums. We’ll collect our favorites and show them off in the July edition of Forza Monthly. Time to crash some bricks!

FORZA MONTHLY | LIVE FROM L.A.
We took the show on the road for the June edition of “Forza Monthly” where we were joined by members of Playground Games, LEGO and Turn 10 to talk about the present and future of the Forza franchise. Playground Games’ Mike Brown and LEGO’s lead designer Chris Stamp were the first up, showing off the LEGO Speed Champions expansion in great detail. Also during the show, we announced that more than 10 million players have played Forza Horizon 4 since the game’s launch in 2018 – a number most assuredly worth celebrating.

After the LEGO demo, we were joined by Turn 10’s Jennifer Yi, director of Forza Esports. Jen talked about the recent ForzaRC test we conducted last month, including some tantalizing details on the kinds of team-based formats that were on hand at the test. Having seen the Budget Cup and hybrid Multi-Class races in person during the test week, I can say that these formats were fascinating to observe and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. The next step comes in August, when we’ll have more ForzaRC news to announce. Stay tuned.

Video: Forza Monthly | June at E3

Finally, we welcomed Forza creative director Dan Greenawalt to the stage and had a far-ranging conversation about the present and future of Forza Motorsport. During the segment, Dan discussed the current states of Forza Motorsport 7 and our next big Forza game. WIth the next game, Dan pointed out that the team is still in the early stages; so early, in fact, that we don’t have a release date for the project. Dan also spoke about the change of approach that Turn 10 is taking with the next game, the importance of building and maintaining communities as we continue the development of the next project, and his excitement for Project Scarlett, which was announced on stage during the Sunday Xbox Briefing.

I want to further emphasize something Dan mentioned during his guest appearance – that Forza fans can get involved with shaping the future of the next Forza project. One way you can get involved right now is by signing up for our User Research surveys. These surveys cover any number of items of interest in the world of Forza, so sign up and let your voice be heard!

LE MANS ESPORTS SUPER FINAL
Hot on the heels of one of the biggest videogame gatherings of the year is one of the biggest races of the year: the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans. In addition to the real-life endurance race, Esports drivers from all over the world (including well-known ForzaRC personalities like Laige, b0x, and others) have convened in France this weekend to compete for a $100,000 prize pool in the Le Mane Esports Super Final. Qualifying has been happening through 2019 and it all culminates in a grueling set of endurance races today and tomorrow.

Here’s a look at the Friday and Saturday schedules (Note: All times are CET)

You can watch all of the action on the official Forza Facebook page or on the official LMES Twitch channel and look for more updates on Forza’s Twitter and Instagram accounts this weekend from Le Mans where our own HeliosT10 is stationed this weekend. Good luck to all the teams and racers on hand at the event; look for a recap of the LMES results in next week’s edition of the Week in Review.

Whether you managed to visit the Microsoft Theater and meet the team in person, or you were watching E3 2019 live on the Forza channel, thanks to Forza fans everywhere for making this a great E3. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the weekend – and some LEGO Speed Champions expansion!

See you next week!
