ForzaRC IndyCar Challenge – Coming May 11!
If it's May it must be the Indianapolis 500! We're celebrating the world's greatest race in a big way with the upcoming ForzaRC IndyCar Challenge. IndyCar champ and Forza Motorsport fan Josef Newgarden will once again be a part of this Bounty Hunter event... and this time he's bringing friends. The action kicks off in Forza Motorsport 7 next Friday, May 11 -- look for more details in next week's edition of the Week in Review!

Reference, from Newgarden's October Bounty Hunter event:

As of this writing, Josef’s time puts him just outside the top 200 worldwide.

Blarg. Awful Indy Cars. Ah, well, likely that the participation award is the only reasonably achievable goal in any case.

This is like that stupidly hard boss you struggled a lot to defeat, only for you to learn a couple stages later he's back... with friends. :D

I'm gonna try my hand at it but guaranteeing any form of success would be absolutely futile, lol.

This is gonna be awesome if it's four bounties, that is, if Newgarden brings in his teammates from Penske. Castroneves will only drive the Indy 500 and Indy GP from now on, but he'll do it for Penske, and this makes it four with him, Will Power and Simon Pagenaud. Can't wait!

I honestly can't express how absolutely stoked I am about this news. I preordered FM7, but I took a little over 3 month hiatus from Forza leading up to and slightly after FM7 launched. I wasn't expecting any Bounty Hunter Events to start so soon. Once I launched the game for the first time in late October I was devastated to realize that I missed the Inaugural Bounty Hunter Challenge.
I have been kicking myself ever since and always hoped that maybe there would at least be another one with Josef Newgarden taking part.

I doubt I got a serious shot at it, but I have improved quite a bit since the Dan Greenawalt Bounty, shedding the automatic assist and switching to manual. During the Ladder Challenge Bounty I became very comfortable with manual. Thus far I have beaten all the Bounty Hunters, barring the Josef Newgarden one that I missed. I will still kick myself for missing that one, but at the very least I get a second chance so to speak. I honestly won't be disheartened if I fall short. It's not the prize cars or even beating the Bounty that gives me satisfaction. What I like the most is the learning, improving and seeing results from these Bounty Hunter Challenges.

Bring it on Mr. Newgarden, I am counting the days to this event opening.

Turn 10, please step up your game with European drivers. You have a Renault F1, why no Hülkenberg? Or one of the many Audi or Porsche drivers?

I hope it isn't, I've never been as competitive on ovals as I have been on circuits, mainly down to using controller rather than wheel (I've never been good at getting consistent smooth turn-in with a controller, mid-corner onwards is fine though)

I'm kind of hoping that a reward for getting within 2 seconds of Josef is the Tanner Foust driver gear. Just for the dig.

Because F1 is Codemasters' series and FIA WEC has, or had, close ties to SMS.

Honestly, Josef is as good as anyone. Just because he isn't in F1, doesn't mean he's worse than any Euro driver. Alonso was in contention for the Indy 500 win last year but he's not representative of the average level of the series, and I don't even need to remind you that the winner of last year's race was Takuma Sato.

If he brings the other Penske boys with him, they form a group that leaves nothing to be desired with regards to the current F1 field.

Ah yes this I could manage but if it is an oval it will be an evil oval 😈😈with 23 other indy cars on the track at once best of luck getting a clean lap with the Drafting assist we would get. Now where did I leave my meds.

I don't think anyone is questioning the racing skills of Josef Newgarden. The only questionable thing about him, is that he's a bounty target capable of getting in the top 200 worldwide. Given last race, I don't even think I can get within 3 seconds.

But when it comes to name recognition, you really need to talk to a petrol head for that. If I tell a friend I'm racing Josef Newgarden on the Xbox, the most likely response is going to be 'Who?' Most F1 racers are known to anyone interested in motorsports in Europe. And although I probably can't name many WEC drivers apart from Kristensen (or (ex-)F1 drivers), some will definitely ring a bell.

So, nothing against Josef, but for me as a European, racing a Hartley or Grosjean (not to mention Alonso, Vettel or Hamilton) is much more exciting and will definitely keep me trying even though I still don't stand a chance of beating them.

I see. I would have liked to race against an F1 driver as well. But I suspect licensing will prevent them from doing it. :(

It's been a while, but wasn't the lap-dirtying drafting thing turned off for johniwanna's track-day BH on Mugello anyway? Or maybe it was just because the Fiesta was too slow for it to trigger...

Yes it wasn't active for JohnIWanna's Bounty Challenge. I don't think it's active for any of the Track Day Events currently present in Rivals either. Traffic really only presenting a problem to break your lines and rhythm. Contact with the AI traffic is the only thing that will dirty your lap, and track limits.

Yes, drafting has been turned off for track days since FM4 at least. Were there track day events prior to FM4? I can't remember.

After winning the Torana from Josef's CBH, I painted it up like his Hitachi IndyCar, printed it out and had Josef, Will and Simon sign it at the Long Beach GP. I had to explain to Simon and Will what they were signing, but Simon did turn to Josef and ask, "How come I didn't know about this?" Will thought it was cool that the reward car was a Torana.

So if Josef's friends are the rest of Team Penske, this might be partly my fault. Sorry. :-)

If Josef's friends aren't from Team Penske but are all active IndyCar drivers, who would you want to face in a CBH? Hinch, Bourdais and Rahal would be my picks.
