The Mercedes SLS harks back to the stylish 50’s when the original, all aluminium 300 SL overawed press and enthusiasts alike, with its snarling straight six engine and unique gull wing doors the 1950’s 300SL was a true supercar with 160mph plus performance and many engineering “firsts” built into it’s design. Although a car with retro styling the modern day SLS is no less a ground breaking machine - a monstrous 6.3 litre engine and almost 600hp in road tune with adaptive suspension, ceramic brakes and state of the art electronics means the SLS punches out a veritable storm of performance whilst still featuring the long, long bonnet (hood to our friends in the USA) and those clever and visually striking doors of the fabled original. In race trim, as seen here, the SLS GT3 is lightened further and honed for incredible track dynamics by the Mercedes in-house performance meisters AMG and presented in my version of the flowing stripes livery of Universal Exports Plc. – a clean and tidy design that features big on symmetry and accuracy.
