Hello everyone.

Got some announcements to make regarding upcoming events. These have already been communicated to the entire club on Discord so feel free to join if you want to stay informed of upcoming events in more detail.

The state of Forza Horizon 4

Forza Horizon 4 is an enjoyable game and great for when you want to cruise around in your favourite car. Sadly however it is not well-suited for organised racing, both in terms of its lobby options and the general structure of the game itself.

At Casual Racing Mondays we tried integrating it into the regular racing activities and while there were some fun moments the overall impression is that it is not a good fit for the club. With that in mind we will not be hosting Forza Horizon 4 events for the forseeable future and will exclusively focus on Forza Motorsport 7.

Vote to Race

For the past year the club has been voting every week on what Divisions we race, and we have nearly exhausted all of Forza Motorsport 7's options in that regard. Now that we are starting to repeat some Divisions the format for polls will change.

On the final week of every month a poll with 10 options will be posted in the Discord channel. These 10 options will be Divisions that have been proven to provide great racing in the past. The top 4 results from that poll will be selected as the racing options for the following month.

To that effect, here is what we are racing in March:

  • Monday, March 4: Modern Hot Hatch
  • Monday, March 11: Forza GT
  • Monday, March 18: Elite Factory Racers
  • Monday, March 25: Formula 90s

Try-Hard Thursdays

Another thing to look forward to in March is Try-Hard Thursdays! This is an experiment we're doing in March to give drivers an opportunity to develop their racing skills further and learn from the faster players in the club.

The general idea is to give the club one slightly longer race to look forward to every week, and to familiarise themselves with a car that they'll get better with over time. Unlike the Monday sessions it won't be a full evening of racing, merely a single race of about 30 minutes in length.

In March we'll be racing Maxda MX-5 Cup cars on Thursdays, all of the details are in the Discord server.

#racing_etiquette has been updated to reflect upcoming changes to CRM sessions.

In short, Forza Race Regulations will be in effect, and lapped traffic will automatically be ghosted for the race leaders.

There will inevitably be an adjustment period as drivers adapt to tighter racing lines to avoid penalties. It will also take a little time for @Lobby Hosts to see which tracks work best with Race Regulations and which don’t, the latter of which may appear less often in CRM sessions.

As always, this club promotes fair play and sportsmanlike racing, so be sure to treat your fellow players with respect on and off the track. If you need a little help with the on-track part, watch the videos in #racing_tips.

Thank you for your support as always, see you on-track on Monday.

Track Limits and Forza Race Regulations

Forza Race Regulations is in effect in all race sessions. This is an in-game penalty system in Forza Motorsport 7 that affects drivers who go off-track.

The system works as follows:

  • If you ever go beyond the track limits, Forza Motorsport 7 will monitor how long you have been off-track for.

  • Once you rejoin the track, Forza Motorsport 7 will predict whether or not you would have gone faster off-track than if you stayed on-track over the same distance.

  • If Forza Motorsport 7 deems that you gained an advantage (no matter how small) you will be given a time penalty. This penalty does not simply nullify your advantage, but adds extra time on top to encourage you to stay within track limits in the future.

  • If you overtake a car while off-track (regardless of context), the penalty will be more severe.

  • At the end of a race each player’s time penalties are added to their total race time. It is possible to finish behind another driver on-track but ahead of them in the final standings, if they got more penalties than you.

The Track Limits can be highlighted while you drive, via the HUD options in-game.

If you find yourself off-track, you can mitigate a potential penalty by slowing down before you rejoin the track. So long as Forza Motorsport 7 doesn’t consider you to have gained an advantage, there’ll be no penalty.

Lapped Traffic

The “Ghost Backmarkers” feature is enabled in all race sessions.

This feature automatically ghosts any driver who is about to go a lap down compared to a faster driver approaching, so that they can overtake them safely.

If you are being lapped, you will be ghosted to the leaders but you will not be ghosted to the cars in a similar position to you. This allows you to continue your battles without interrupting the race leaders as they get by.

A recent announcement from the Discord server. We'll be using Forza Race Regulations from here on out.

Quick bump and reminder that Casual Racing Mondays is still going strong :)

We've done almost every Division in Forza Motorsport 7 now and will start repeating some soon.

We're also looking to start hosting GRID sessions on Xbox, starting late October, so feel free to join if that's something you're interested in.
