Whats with the engine sound of the new merkur racecar? It clearly has a MASSIVE V8 in forzavista, so why does it sound like a 4 cylinder? (No i have nothing against 4 cylinders ) but how they got a certain cars sound this horribly wrong is beyond me.

The race car did come with a 4-cylinder turbo (like the Roush Mustang) for certain tracks, so I wonder if they scanned one car but recorded sound from another (or replicated the sound from video).

Agreed. I don’t know what year the Forza car is but they ran a 2300cc 4cyl turbo in GTO for a couple of years.

Im aware of the 4cyl but this one is the later version with the roush nascar V8 very similar to the one in the whistler cougar....seems like the team that scans the cars and the sound team didnt work together as has been pointed out they probably scanned the one but recorded sound of the other, still i expect better from turn 10 but i shouldnt be surprised as there are a few cars with the wrong sounds one i can think of is the old jeep wrangler that has a V6 but has a V8 sound.

In certain engines, the sound can and is often minimised due to rules. I’ve heard many V8’s sound less than they should be. Or more exactly, how I presume they should sound.

I’ve raced the car, great handling by the way, thanks Turn10, and it fells, rounds and performces like it’s intended to.

It doesn’t have any turbo sound hints, and it certainly doesn’t rev or sound like a 4cyl, that’s for sure.

And yes, I have a surround sound set up, and it certainly doesn’t sound like a modded 4cyl.

In my opinion, it could have more troaty sound about it, but if you race it, then jump into say the V8 Nissan Supercar, you’ll notice some slight similarities in how both font found like rumbling v8’s.

Sound is produced by the exhaust system. If it’s an open system, via say a straight through system with relative straight flowing pipes, then through a straight pipe system, then it will sound like a monster ing V8.

However, if the extractors are fully tuned length, then through a muffler system then extracted out the rear side. Then the sound will be markahly different. Just listen to say Jack Braban’s Formula V8 with the spaghetti extractors. The sound it very muffled, softer, yet screams more.

Listen to the sound of a Ferrari V8, does that sound like a thumping big drag V8 motor, nope. It sounds very subdued.

I’ve seen how Turn10 gather their audio, it’s certainly not just one mic on a stick stuck out the window. It’s gathered via multiple inputs, through various means and methods.

In car, closer to the screen, on the roof, on the boot, from above the car, at the exhaust pipe tip, and in the engine bay.

It’s dertainly not a simple task, that’s for sure. Perhaps they might bump up the tone or the burble a little, time will tell.

But I’m just happy they included a very rare raving Ford. Shame they didn’t offer the showroom version so we could modify or own versions.

It did not have a V8 in 1986, that's for sure. But the year is very easy to fix.

Just like last months Group 5 Nissan had a 6 cylinder sound instead of the 4 pot it should have.

..or the 1st gen Ford Mustang. I`ve lived for years with this enegine and through all levels so I kind of knows it. The Shelby Daytona runs the same enegine, here max tuned with race exhaust. This one sounds like an angry Ford Windsor 289cui should do. Compare this to a max-tuned 1st gen Mustang. Moore like a vacuum-cleaner..

And so on.
