I have made over 50 paints for Forza Horizon 3, and most of these are 3-5 star designs with a few 1 and 2 star designs but I am still listed as an Amateur painter. How can I change this? A guy who makes at least 3 star designs 90% of the time should be something like a Semi-Pro or Professional painter, right?

The difference between a 5-star rating on a single design and a 5-star rating as a painter overall (Legend status) is pretty significant. The ratings for individual designs and for painter status are determined by combined downloads, likes and uses. A 5-star rating on a design requires a combined 100 downloads, likes and uses of that design. A 5-star status (Legend painter) requires a combined 50,000 downloads, likes and uses of all shared designs. So ... as you can see ... it will take a significant amount of time for even 5-star designs to accumulate enough downloads, likes and uses for painter status to reach 5-star level.

Ok, thanks for the information. I can understand why I am still only a 1 star painter despite making quite a few 5 star designs and almost 90% of my designs being at least 3stars or above. Do you know how many downloads it takes to be a 2, 3 or 4 star painter?

I can tell you that recently I reached 4 star (elite) and right now I'm at just over 7900 downloads (been a busy two months lol). Not sure how many likes and uses unfortunately .

Not sure exactly. T10 has never posted what the actual requirements are but there have been some threads around here where we've tried to figure it out.

I think it may be something close to this:
1-star (Freelance) after 1st download.
2-star (Amateur) may be 5,000 downloads, likes and uses.
3-star (Pro) may be 10,000 downloads, likes and uses.
4-star (Elite) may be 25,000 downloads, likes and uses.
5-star (Legend) has been shown to be 50,000 downloads, likes and uses.

If it helps, I hit semi-pro at around 1000 design downloads and just hit pro-painter with over 2000 design downloads and 400+ vinyl downloads.

I was looking at my downloads increasing and hoping I would hit 3 stars when I got to 2000 downloads but it didn't happen. Although I realize it is a combination of DLs, likes and uses so just because I didn't get 3 stars with 2000 downloads doesn't mean others won't if they have more uses.

I would speculate 2 stars comes at something much less than 5000 combined stats and would agree that somewhere in the ball park of 1000 seems about right.

I've recently done some of the most successful non Turn 10 Select designs I've ever had so I'm hopeful that I will hit the 3 star mark soon.

Best way to up your downloads is to enter the weekly design contest... (and get picked...) also the car you select to paint can be vital to it's succes...

I got really lucky with this one 😮😮😮

SnakeEyes brings up a really good point. Most people don't seem to think much about which cars to paint ... but that's a huge part of it. You can have the greatest paint in the world ... but if it's on a car that nobody owns or uses ... you've just about wasted your efforts. I try to put out paints for cars in the Trending section of the Autoshow ... Upgrade Heroes cars ... or cars from new monthly car packs or expansions ... because those are most likely the cars that most people will be using and looking for paints for.

I can back this up.

My most successful design in Forza Motorsport 6 is my Honda S2000, for 2 reasons:

  • It is a Featured Design for that car.
  • That car is one of the "Starter Cars" for the game.

Combine the 2 and the end result is that my design is one of the first ones recommended to every single person that starts playing the game for the first time. The number of downloads on that car far outweighs my others, even though every one of my designs is Featured.

i am a elite painte trying to make the nest step what im confused about is this besides the 50000 downloads like and uses is this. does the game count designs only or are the amount of layer groups count as well, example i have 13000 paint jobes downloaded but 29000 layer groups downloaded. if counting both i would have over 40000. i cant get an answer anywhere. so is it paints only or are layer groups added toward it as well

I'm elite painter currently at the minute with 18,000 plus paint job downloads and 30,000 layer groups downloads, plus hundreds of paint job uses and likes, from what I know layer group downloads don't add on to painter status, only paint job downloads, uses and likes combined will get a legend painter status. 50,000 is supposed to be the legend mark but it's not that easy to add up all the uses and likes, hopefully I'll reach that status myself soon.

Downloads, likes and uses of full car designs are all that count towards painter status. Vinyl group downloads, likes and uses are not included.

Look to get Legend Between 25000 and 30000 downloads. If you have an above average use and like then closer to 25000. Also, if you have been doing it awhile its a better chance of being on the lower end. If you are late to the game and have been pushing out a lot of designs in a short period of time it will be more like 30000.

It's a very subjective thing and can differ greatly from painter to painter. I have a couple of paints in FH3 that have enough downloads, likes and uses themselves to earn Legend status several times over. It all depends on how good the paint is .... how popular the subject is ... and how popular the car its on is. Legend status can be earned by only sharing a single paint if the stars all align right.
