My question is there anything I can try to get my progress back as I have spent so many hours getting to the levels that I did to have to redo that is just soul destroying.
I have read through as many posts as I can but it all seems to point to restarting, has anyone got any tips; please
These are the suggestions I've had from support:
1. Forza profile is no longer available with an error code or an Invalid Profile.
For PC players on Windows 10 Pro only : if you know your way around your PC, you can try deleting the \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.SunriseBaseGame_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs folder on your local hard drive. After doing so, please reboot the computer and then restart the game. You should then be able to sync and play again.
If that does not work for you, or if you are playing on any other platform, please try the following:
Fully close the game. (more info on how to do this here).
Ensure your Xbox or PC’s internet connection is functioning correctly.
Restart the game.
After pressing A or ENTER on the welcome screen wait for the sync to complete. This could take a long time, but it is important to be patient.
If the same error message continues to appear after fully restarting the game, try the following troubleshooting:
Fully close the game. (more info on how to do this here).
Ensure your Xbox or PC’s internet connection is functioning correctly.
Delete the local console save data
Follow the steps from this article for how to delete saves.
Select 'Delete from Console'.
For PC try the following:
Go to your Windows 10 Settings --> Storage --> Apps & games -->Forza -->Advanced Options -->Select the "Reset" button.
Restart the game.
After pressing A on the welcome screen wait for the sync to complete. This could take a long time, but it is important to be patient.
If these ideas do not work, then can you please use the Report A Problem feature to capture the issue?
2. Report a Problem

Right after the issue happens, press and hold the power button on your control until the power popup appears. There should now be a "Report a problem" option.
Select the option to Add New Problem

For both devices, you will want to note the title of the report you submitted and reply to this ticket with title so we can take a look.
If Step 1 did not work, then you will need to complete Step 3!
3. Delete your save from everywhere
*Please note that this will wipe your save from everywhere and you will be starting fresh. There is no way to recover your old save.
Please follow these steps based on your device: You do not need to do both devices. If you have an Xbox, its easier to do it there.

Highlight the game, press the Menu button on your controller, and then select Manage game.
In the menu on the left of the screen, scroll down to Saved Data, then highlight the saved data for your gamertag on the right and press the A button on your controller.
You'll be prompted to confirm deletion of this game save data: (You need to select Delete Everywhere in order for this to work)

I've tried several of the W10 fixes on my laptop with varying degrees of success. I don't know whether these will fix your issue. It might be best to go to support, explain the situation, and see whether they can unlock your missing cars for you.
I was prestige 6 a month ago, and now I'm prestige 1. I had over 25,000 Forzathon points, albeit with little to spend them on. All that effort to be reset to zero. Sigh.
