When my son is at his house and I’m at mine and we are in the same game together, we can’t see each other’s paint jobs. Does he have to have the same paint job saved in his design section or am I missing something here?

Can you see any other players' designs? It is an option in the hud & gameplay menu. If it is just each other's you can't see then I'm not sure why that would be. Certainly he does not need to have the design on your car, saved to his machine first, so he can see it.

Ok, we both went into
Settings
HUD and Gameplay

Both have Drivatar and Player Designs set to “on”.

And nothing changed. Our cars show up to each other as stock colors.

Grrr... never had this issue with Hotizon 3.
