Got a few laps in before the kids got up and took over the living room. No clue how they can sleep in to 7:00 on Christmas morning; when I was a kid I was up at 12:07 playing with my new swag.

Made a few more minor adjustments to try to get a bit more stability under heavy acceleration. Bit of rear toe in and very slightly revised damper settings. Setup uploaded as v1.3. Also put a more visually interesting (read: loud & proud) paint job on the car. Chose to chase Foot's ghost around, as he's about a second faster than I think I'm capable of and keeps a much more consistent pace than the one I had been using (which I'm pretty sure was a stock Cerbera driven by Animal from the Muppets). Was making some obvious improvements over my last run, but couldn't string together a lap that included all of them at once. I could for sure hit mid-2:08s and maybe even 2:07s if I did, but it's not happening this week.

Current best (and for sure final): 2:09.1xx

Also: Happy holidays, all.

Yas is a great track for these cars, but they were tough to tame to get the best out of them. Tier 4 drivers were thin on the ground, and at one stage SatinIce7374438 was in for his first win until HET9Zombie7 turned up.

We ended this holiday competition with only 27 drivers, but great to see the return of TPR Zermatt, and THR Rich after their Forza RC heroics to offer xAlea Jacta Est some very serious competition.

THR Rich showed us what a great hot lapper he is to claim the win in a Porsche 911 GT1, with the podium places going to xAlea Jacta Est, and TPR Zermatt. Thanks for joining in guys.

Here is a snapshot of the final standings:

Congratulations to our winners:

Tier 1 Winner: THR Rich wins a paint for his 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion.

Tier 2 Winner: fifty inch wins a paint for his 1997 Lotus Elise GT1.

Tier 3 Winner: UnearthlyDNA wins a paint for his 1997 Lotus Elise GT1.

Tier 4 Winner: HET9Zombie7 wins a paint for his 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion.

Tuners Prize: xAlea Jacta Est wins a paint for his 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion run by minsons.

To claim your paints, message HLR Moss to arrange it's sharing whilst you are waiting in the car to download. We don't want anyone else to grab them. They are each personalised for the winner and hopefully will provide you with a memory of the event.

For our next challenge we are off to Japan to drive some vintage racers. We hope you enjoy it!

I'll probably be joining you next week Chris 😕, or maybe we could just swap 😃

Moss, what was the difference in the end between Mr Pinstripes and myself?, It seemed like I was chasing his ghost forever just trying to keep the car on the funny black stuff

Think I'm going with the Bimmer for this one. It's not quite as pretty as some of its contemporaries, but it's still a very handsome car. Hoping with a bit of elbow grease and some K-swap magic (would love to use the S14 out of the E30 M3, but sadly that's not an option) I can make it into something that drives as good as it looks. Backup plan is an Alfa Romeo GTA, because it's the best-looking sedan ever made. Was kinda eyeballing getting a GTV 1750, but prices have skyrocketed since then. Stupid vintage car market.

...or the Cortina. I could run the Cortina again and not be put out about it.

Turns out the 2002 is kind of uninspiring to drive. Not bad, per se, but very staid and businesslike. Suzuka's kind of a boring, on-rampish track to begin with, so the last thing I want to drive is an equally boring car. There are a bunch of great choices in the division, but the Cortina's the easy button for me. It's stylish, tossable, and I'm pretty familiar with its ins and outs (pretty sure it has the highest mileage of any car in my garage).

Started from scratch on the build, as there's a world of difference between D400 at Lime Rock and C500 at Suzuka. Not a ton of wiggle room at C500 (without replacing the motor or adding forced induction), but enough to spend most of the morning testing weight vs. power vs. tires to see what seemed to work. Settled on one with stock width race rubber and a lowish weight. Haven't really had much time to push it, but it definitely shows promise. Can mostly keep up with Kid's ghost through the esses. He starts to walk away from me after that, but that's mostly because I suck at Suzuka. Setup is uploaded as HLC11 SuzF v1.0.

Gave your Cortina a short 3-lap run for a 2:24.7xx in the 2nd lap, yet, in order to really push it....for my driving style/lines would need the F/R Aero wings on it. Nice ride though. BTW, checked the build, you can still shed off about 11 lbs.

If I get a chance, I will put together a full aero version.

My setup is still pretty unrefined (no revisions on anything yet, so it's much looser than even I would like), and from a strict performance standpoint the build is pretty poorly optimized. No aero, wheels chosen based on appearance, etc. I do think the car itself has the potential to contend for best-in-division with a better build and more performance-oriented setup, though. 2:24.7 puts you at about 0.9% off your Alfa time, and I know that car's no slouch when set up properly. If you do give it a shot, let me know how it turns out.

Out of curiousity: What components did you use to drop 11 lbs over what I'm currently using?

Here you go.... you can get down to 1651 LBs (exclude Flywheel, DL, and use stock rim size, then, use Outlaw II rims or similar)

Best of Luck!

Got halfway through a holistic revision of the setup today, then ended up setting almost everything back to where it was to focus on single adjustments. Transmission is slightly revised, so first gear is actually useable and there's less overrun on the main straight (note: shift point is at 6.5k RPM). Also changed the ride frequency to a balanced 2.5Hz F/R setup (I usually run higher rear frequencies, but on this track it's causing more problems than it's solving) and adjusted the differential a bit (lower Accel, very slightly higher Decel). Car's still got some squirrels in its pants (especially on the high-speed sweepers), but it's more stable than it was. Setup uploaded as v1.1. Should be good for mid-2:25s for me, possibly even high 2:24s if I can keep my cool and chuck it as hard as it needs to be chucked.

Current best: 2:26.2xx

Gotcha. Kinda suspected you were tinkering with the ancillaries. Those Cragars were chosen strictly because they look awesome (they seem to find their way onto almost all of my vintage builds at one point or another), and the 14s just seem to visually work the best on the car. I was running 15s for a while, but they were just edging into looking cartoonish.
