It depends on the car. I'm not sure it makes much difference in the Mini.
Also make sure to have traction control off as this can sap power.
I'm curious actually, I might video the Mini with and without clutch to see how much difference it makes, if any. It certainly makes some cars quicker which is why it's better to have it on for Eliminator, except for the awful imposed delay when you hit something and the car refuses to move for three seconds.
