I think the same way as you do and one of the points that is still making me asking why is the small maps, i mean back in 2006 Test Drive Unlimited came with the whole island of Oahu in Hawaii to play around or cruise on the Xbox 360 and now in the time of the Xbox one with much better hardware we still have about the same map size from the original Horizon and i don't care that people says "but FH4 map is the biggest Horizon map till date" it still tiny compared to TDU and after some time FH4 map becomes boring to drive in.

Other point is the mostly lack of progression.
You start the game and off you go pick between these powerfull cars to start your career and then the purpose of finishing the game is "oh you are a rookie with potencial please reach the top on these racing leagues and you'll be crowned champion of horizon" just like FH2 and mostly FH3.
Were is like i don't know a antagonist like in the first Horizon or like older NFS games where it really gave you a purpose to finishing the game just to make the guy eat their own words.

I agree, it would be nice to have a series of AI rivals to defeat. I think FH1 had a few named characters you had to race at certain points. I know for sure there was a previous festival champ you had to race at the end.

To me, FH4 is an Open World Racing Game… so why then focus on Avatars (clothing/emotes) when you could have focused on vehicles instead. Think about it, wouldn’t it have been much better to win a body kit for your favorite car then pink ballerina slippers? How about a Wheel Spin where you won a set of Sport Tires that would only cost you 50% of the normal Sport Tires PI to install? Engine swaps in Wheel Spins? And anything you couldn’t use; you could sell on the Auction House.

Just visit any online Auto Parts Store and start thinking outside the box… The possibilities were endless.

Agreed. The emphasis on player avatars, with all the clothing options and emotes, seems misguided.

It's bad enough to get pitiful 2000 and 5000 payouts in a wheelspin. When half your wheelspins give you clothing items you'll never use and don't care about, it gets quite frustrating.

And now that I have pretty much all the cars, even car rewards are annoying because it's garage filler I have to go and weed out so my garage doesn't get full. We really need the option to sell wheelspin cars, STAT.

I've seen ppl mention clothing on Wheelspins.....

I don't get them anymore, haven't for months, just cars or money.

Do you still get them?

Doesn't matter to me anyway as i have basically all clothing and emotes.

You stop getting clothes and emotes when you have them all... but I don't have them all. So I still get clothes from time to time. Not as bad as when the game first came out of course.

Oh ok, that explains it then :)

Have to admit though i hated getting clothes on wheelspins, damn near drove me insane when you had 15 Super Wheelspins and 80 percent was clothes :(

Yesterday, I had 100 Super Wheel Spins (WS) for collection. First, I removed or auctioned several cars from my garage to make room for the award cars coming from the WS.
After 50 Wheel Spins:

S P I N A W A R D S

CARS:
22 Duplicates were awarded from the spins
7 new awards (5 had not been owned before)

APPAREL:
5 items received (4 new and 1 duplicate). Still many apparel items to receive.

SPINS:
49 spins received credits
1 spin received zero credits

CREDITS:

The 49 spins earned me a total of 4,185,000 credits

A U C T I O N S

22 of the duplicated award cars were placed in the Auction House for 24-hours for the lowest possible credits. Overnight, 13 cars were purchased earning 1,051,000 credits.

One Aston Martin Vulcan FE sold for 505,000 credits and two others earned more than 100,000. The Ford Capri went for 13,000 credits, the lowest amount. The remaining sold for an average of ~38,000 credits. All the remaining duplicates were removed from the garage.

S U M M A R Y

During a couple of days, this season of Autumn, I earned 5,236,000 credits and my garage is down to 643 cars. The Auto Showroom still has 35 cars that are listed as NOT OWNED and won't be purchased unless needed.

I have over 520 normal Wheels Spins and 49 Super Wheel Spins remaining.

I hope those buyers got a great deal from my auction sales. I had fun doing it and will try to do a purge & sale once a week.

Horizon's bursting through success started with FH 2 for me.

In terms of atmosphere and feeling, none of the sequels have come remotely close for me. Sure, the sequels have all upped the car count, playable area, map size etc etc etc. But none have felt as fun to me as the original did. And that's not just rose tinted glasses. I've played through it a number of times since release, and to me, it still holds up as a genuinely good game.

I agree with that, FH 1 even tho it was simpler compared to the sequels, It was more fun, What I liked about it was the "1000 Club" Where each car had it's own set of challenges that you could do, You didn't get any rewards except for a gold medal for completing each challenge, But it was still fun to do, Another thing I liked about FH 1 was the menu system for what you could choose to do online,
You could to, Race, Play games, Free roam, etc. Which means that if all you wanted to do was say play "Infected" Like I used to like to do, You could choose the "Infected" option and find the different lobbies that players had setup, and if there was a space open in a lobby(only 8 spaces per lobby) that was playing in an area that you wanted to play in, you could join that lobby, Now the only way you can find a game is if you ether make one and HOPE that someone that wants to play a game will see that "left button" icon on the map and click on it before time runs out, Or keep your eye out for the "Left button" icon to appear and HOPE That it's someone else that wants to play a game instead of race, And even than MAYBE get lucky enough to get more than 1 other player who saw the icon and was able to join in time to play, For me racing all the time can get not only boring, But also tedious, And Ive Always found Online Freeroam especially boring, Even in FH 1,

I think I only got 14 days xbox live gold trial to test online and I've used it for FM 4. But regardless of online gameplay, FH 1 felt luckluster to me. The cockpits in cockpit view looked very dark and low detailed. The car list was small compared to Motorsport 4 at the time. Nowdays the newer Horizons have almost as many cars as their Motorsport equivalents. And as far as I remember, the game asked you to downgrade your cars for certain races which cost extra credits. This drove me crazy, because everytime I tried to save some credits for new cars, I had to spend so much on upgrades and downgrades. It was insane. Because of that, I have even spent my leftover xbox live funds on tokens to get something at least. Adn afer a while, I stopped playing FH1.

When Horizon 2 came out. It did everything better. Many more cars, everything looked nice and shiny and PG started allowing us to leave the roads and go offroad. [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D]. This was the first time when I preferred playing Horizon over Motorsport and the tendency got higher on each Horizon that came out afterwards. Horizon 3 freed me from the xbox jail and finally got me to play on my PC with unlocked framerate and online play. The barriers that kept us on the road in previous FH titles got loosened even more and offroad has became a new imprtant aspect of the game. The auction House came back. And the crazy expansions were the cream topping on top of that. FH 4 got things even better. Of course, the newer Horizons have lost a few features of their predecessors, but I would say they are far more better than FH 1 was. Sorry for me to pop some nostalgia bubbles.

Probably, jumping on the Fortnite bandwagen, which is why a lot of folk started calling FH4 "Forznite Horizon 4" when it came out.

I'm happy that they didn't lock any car upgrades behind the Wheelspins. Once you have a car, everything for it is available via Autoshow and that's how it should be. What comes to upgrades with any sort of bonus to PI, that would mess up both, Multiplayer and Rivals.

I understand where you are aiming at though. For me that the whole reward thing comes up so often, is issue of game economy. Playground Games could had avoided the problem if they were made Forzathon Shop have more items available per week, purchasable via Forzathon Points. Something like cars we have now, but 4-6 clothing, emote, whatever items there are, to allow efficient alternate way to deplete junk from Wheelspins. Of course FP price per item should have been reasonable.

Instead game relied very heavily on Wheelspins and that got many players distracted. Instead of just playing the game and finding out what kind of racing, other things each would enjoy, it became game about winning the casino. Instead of enjoying races and other activities, Wheelspins stole the attention, players focus, because it looked like the biggest challenge, and it was, a mountain of work. Then after that was dealt with we had lot's of credits, cars, whatever, but many spent their time playing, what should have been a sideshow. The most ridiculous thing is, that even after that Wheelspins are still a distraction, now it's about garage management, time and attention again taken away from trying a new car in a Street Race, or whatever the game should be about.

What I have read I understand clothes and stuff and to be honest, while I was one of those who rebelled against "Sims" aspects of game by making my Drivatar look about as ridiculous as possible, over time I have grown sort of attached to moron. It just that PG didn't had the creativity and other things needed to make that work without distracting players about main event, the Festival. Were we had option to sell duplicate cars back to casino like in FH3 there wouldn't be an issue, but that's not the game we got.

Rewards, I don't know about virtual clothes and stuff, I don't know if they work very well as long term goal for game like this. Discovery can be rewarding, learning to play game new way can be rewarding and I wish I had seen something like "Extreme Conditions" mode which would've unlocked after player gets first prestige. That would allow racing all the routes on mainland in mode where every route would have extremely varied conditions. Snow, wet, dry ICE, and tyre selection with cars wouldn't be that simple at all. Only three difficulty modes available, Expert, Pro and Unbeatable. Beat all the Dirt races in Extreme conditions mode, yeah there couldn't have been a shirt or something and for every race category and final "I Wasted My Life In Game" T-shirt could be unlocked after winning all the races in that mode.

But lot's of possibilities I agree about that. There's one thing though. We already paid for the game, why in the world should we also design it for them?

I got all the horns and emotes. Yet still so much more clothes "missing". I cant really stand the stupid RNG, which gives me so much **** . I guess I need a brake from the game. Perhaps forever. Everytime I get a wheelspin, I am already angry before even using it. Because Im pretty sure, that I will get even more clothes.

No doubt upgrades should remain; however, there are some cars that don't offer certain upgrades... The Formula Drift Cars immediately come to mind. If you're a drifter, you're all set, if not, upgrading the tires would be nice option.

Would this require a little more thought into what upgrades or additional items could be available? Certainly. But like you mentioned, that needs to be thought out by the developer.

However, if you didn't want to spend the time thinking about how to make the game more challenging, you could; for example, just add avatars and clothing... maybe throw in an emote or two. :)

I think idea behind Formula Drift car pack was to offer short cut for some single player challenges and MP. I'm not that good with drifting myself and MP side requires ability to upgrade and tune suitable vehicles and there's quite a learning curve in there. Also not everyone wants or can't invest lot of time to one feature.

I came to think that they could used level up system a bit more too to reduce focus from Wheelspins, put more stuff in there. I don't know, maybe it's just me but that way players could have felt game more rewarding. There are vehicles, emotes, clothes, but maybe there could have been even more.

Something I recalled from FH3. There used to be this Street Scene events called Midnight Battles, races where winner got the reward car, which were something quite unique. Maybe they could've expanded that a bit. Have sort of custom showcase event in Festival, Classic racers where there would be qualifying championship from class D to B and then final showcase which could be some sort of insane speed challenge on Unbeatable or Pro but still accessible as it would be A class stock, or something, on the Colossus. Perhaps winner wouldn't necessarily win opponents car, but there were been Horizon Festival price, street version of classic racer, like '57 Ferrari 250 California. Fantastic vehicle, but of course nobody ever tries that because it's so expensive and C-class.

In general, progression and rewards were been more tied to performance in races and less to wheelspins. In the process, perhaps it wouldn't need to be about more rewards but how they could be achieved and pacing.

I don’t know exactly how to word this...

I’ve run out of fun things to do in fh4.

I kind of miss for example choosing a modern supercar and race a series of races against the same avatars or ai acummulating points.

Yes I can jump around the map picking single street races. But it is something about the bigger final win in a chapionship streak that feels just more «yes completed that».

I may be unlucky but the few seasonal championships never seem to have the cars I enjoy.

For now Im back to fh2 in fact... a menu of 60+ chamionship so I can race my favourite cars when I want.

I also have a custom championship with 6 races for modern supercar in fh3, surfers paradise, bsst night riding I have!

Yes, the Championships are sorely missed. I especially like in FH3 where you could build your own... but alas... those days are gone.

I've been playing games since Space Invaders. FH4 is the best game I've ever played in the whole of my life. I've been playing it non stop since it was released. I love it! I totally understand if you don't like it though :(

There are lots of things I don't like in life. I don't like cricket. I don't like golf. I'm not keen on sailing... but if the weather is nice, I might do it, if pressed.

I tend not to write about the things I don't like (although, hypocritically, I have done so, above!)

If you don't like FH4, why not go and do something you like instead?! It might be fun.

I wouldn't recommend Space Invaders though. I'm not sure why we bothered. Asteroids was **** as well. Manic Miner, Chucky Egg... rubbish! And Out Run. I loved that in the arcades. What was I thinking!

Another example of lazy devs is the convertible version of cars, like the mclaren 650 spider they released with the top up, the ZR1 and ZL1 1LE copy and pasted, they only fixed those after a lot of complaints, that’s some low effort

I’ve only played FM7 and FH4 so I can’t attest to things that have changed but those two games have not given me a great impression of forza, not excited to get the next ones at all with direction the games seem to be headed

The playlist is a big problem for me too.

But you are not impressed with Forza? What better you can play? Current Forza games are among the best games.

I can name a couple, but their older:

Test Drive Unlimited 2
Test Drive Unlimited Platinum (Update of Tdu 1)

Sure Tdu 2 doesn't compare in the graphics / sound / physics department, but it excels in immersion and enjoy-ability. Edit: And, TduP has surpassed Forza in the number of Cars and has better Car sounds, IMO.

Had to edit this thread about a dozen times, finally going with this:
I agree with the OP, while I consider it an amazing technical achievement, the game misfires for me on too many levels. I only come back into the game to collect my free stuff, I get a few new cars for free, I drive each one for a few minutes each and then I realize I just kind of don't enjoy any of it. It could be the changes in the AI in races, it could be the map location and constantly changing weather and seasons, it could be the almost seizure-inducing bombarding of menus and achievements and goals .......but in the end, for me, the game went from being the Road Racing version of Forza Motorsports to becoming...something else. But you know, that's on me. It's still an incredible achievement....I just am not enjoying it the way I expected I would have. In fact....not even close to what I expected I would have.
