Buy a cheap PC monitor and use that with your xbox.

Since it’s now been established that your tv is an HD ready 720p tv, I’d suggest that you select the ‘720p’ setting on your console rather than the ‘1080p’ setting. That should give you the best possible image for the console with your particular tv.
