List of FM4 cars that can be detuned

Copied over from the old forums, The DeTune Project (part deux) originally started by Coujo:
http://legacy.forums.forza.net/forums/thread/4901604.aspx

As he stated, the point of this list is to identify cars that can drop below their stock class. This can extend your options for race events restricted to a class, allowing you to drive cars you enjoy or to help increase Affinity. For the most part I believe that de-tuned cars don’t necessarily make for competitive models in their lower classes, but some might. Feel free to discuss tips in this thread. I’ll correct my list if anyone sees something impossible or missing.

De-tuning is generally accomplished by adding weight (rims, cage, diff), race aero, drivetrain conversion, drag tires, sometimes a transmission, or the aspiration swap: convert aspiration to another option (usually turbo), buy the Race twin turbos and then sell them, then go buy one of the upgraded intercoolers. This effectively adds weight from the intercooler without any power benefit.

Hi. For so long I have been trying to detune 1960 Chevrolet Corvette C1 from D to E but just could get the last point. 277, 276 - 275!

I finally got there by with these installs.

Default 277
install Forza front bumber 276
install race differential - 276
install heavy Rims (Dub Big Chips) +2kg - 276
install front rim style 185/65R18 (the 3rd one) - 275 YEAH!

PS I’d also like know about the 2009 Holden HSV w427 from A to B, thx.

pretty sure that car needs the intercooler weight. (AKA the aspiration glitch, AKA the turbo glitch) - not really a glitch, more like a trick ;^) … adds weight without adding HP. kind-of like you discovered with wheels and the Race Diff. (and sometimes with Roll Cages). Oh and, some cars go lower PI with transmission changes -without adding any weight. And race cars can go down by adding drag tires (at the expense of grip!) - each method, different trade-offs… anyway, try this for the Holden:

Buy a Turbo or a Super Charger from the Conversions menu and then back out to the Engine menu and upgrade that Turbo or SC to Race. Now, and this sounds weird, sell that Race Turbo or Race SC you just bought and back out to the Engine menu where you should still be able to scroll over and have the option to add an intercooler. Add one of the intercoolers (each adds a different amount of weight) and you’ll be adding the weight of the intercooler without adding any additional HP. (there are, I am sure, better descriptions How To on the intertubes if that wasn’t clear enough)

Some cars can be converted from a charged aspiration to natural aspiration. This is only possible if the car begins with a turbocharger or supercharger and has another turbo or supercharger aspiration conversion option. Buy the conversion, go to upgrades and buy the Race upgrade for that charger, sell the upgrade, then put the car up for Auction. Remove the car from auction, and it will now be recognized by race restrictions as naturally aspirated, allowing you to drive the car in events it previously was excluded from based just on aspiration. This process also lowers PI due to reducing horsepower. Old forum thread: http://legacy.forums.forza.net/forums/permalink/5292064/5292045/ShowThread.aspx#5292045

Nice one, thanks very much for this list. Turn 10 should be paying you for all these lists.

Thanks for posting this Manteo, I forgot about several cars that can be detuned, especially some boosted cars. Got to try them out!

Awesome list gonna use some of the cars for the career mode.
Especially the F Class career sucks in the stock F cars.

Hi ManteoMax. Like the list (maybe just * the ones that need the auction to work). I don’t have Xbox Live Gold (yet) so I can’t do Boost-to-Natural-Aspiration conversion cars (can’t use the auction :frowning: as I’d like to detune 1982 Toyota Supra to class F&E)

I have suspected that the 2009 Holden HSV w427 could be detuned to class B. I can get to PI 501 but that’s it. What am I missing?

To get to 501 installed as follows:
Forza Front Bumper
Forza Rear Wing
Rims - Dub Big Chips
Upgraded Rear Rim Size 275/25R21
Differential - sport or race
everthing else is stock as to me it raises PI. (Sport Transmission was the trick for 1982 Lancia 037 Stradale from C to D).

Thanx.

Thx Design, that worked a treat. And didn’t need to put it up for auction so XBLSilver can do it too. I’ll have a got at detuning the Lancia 037 from C to E next while I still have access to the auction house. That tip about the auction house and returning bid credits worked too. I didn’t realise I had bid what I had.

see ya round the tracks. KK42.

PS Honorary first membership of Club49 to you.

I might need to offered better cars though. Any chance anyone out there like to be patron? Have a look in the Clubhouse section for a giggle with/at Krusty.
