I have just challenged a rival and over took him and beaten his time but it still says I’m in position 2 am I doing something wrong so annoying
Clean lap was not mentioned in your post. Was your lap clean? i.e. no triangle with “!” in in beside your lap time? That’s the one explanation I can offer . . .
Second explanation (which happened to me once) is that while you were doing the Rivals run, your rival set a NEW, faster time.

Both viable explanations. And both have happened to me. The “!” triangle will pop up if you cut a corner or use Rewind, so be careful and watch your track position.
I’ve beaten a time while I had lost internet connection, and had to go back and do it again.
I’ve had a similar issue but I was dashboarded. It’s so frustrating when that happens.
