Has this ever happened to you?

Tonight I went into an S-Class lobby. The first race was at Laguna Seca. On the first lap, the 30 degree turn going uphill before the corckscrew, I got a good run on someone who had hit the brakes way too hard. Following the meter on the left of the screen, I realized I was about -8 feet behind this person. We’re head to head up the hill, and at the peak, the person dips right to get into the proper breaking zone for the beginning of the corkscrew. They swerved directly into my front end… we both went spinning, with me taking the bulk of the time to right my car and get back into the race. 2nd lap now. Shortly after the double apex at the beginning of the lap, I get another good run going into 4. Thinking I’m finally going to pass this person, they once again fail to realize they are being passed and dip directly into the inside line. This time I manage to hold it, while the other person goes off track. Again, later on the 2nd lap coming up to the final turn, the hairpin, I’m getting a decent run on another person. -25 feet and closing. He brakes early, I swerve left to get the inside and break late since I’m driving a Zonda and my car can handle it. The guy dips into the inside line, spins himself out, I recover and keep on moving. Third lap, no incident here, just a 3rd place finish. Ran the fastest lap by over a second and a half.

The race ends and we go to the lobby screen. “Vote to kick: Big Papa Cropa.” I yell at the TV: “WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GARBAGE!??!!?!” I walk away for a bottle of water, come back, and I’m kicked. 2 people spun out because they dipped into MY line, and I’m the one who gets kicked.

Channeling my inner Walter Sobchek here, AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT THE RULES!?" Seriously, where did all the good, respectful, clean, attentive drivers go? I’m tired of driving against people who have no clue how to race.

I don’t have any facts or figures to say for sure, but I’m convinced most crashes are caused by desperate drivers like this. You have to respect the lines of other drivers who are along side. If I’m on the inside you can’t apex, you’ll have to take the outside line. You can’t just turn into me and try to apex as you usually would. That line is now gone. You’re basically saying the same thing, big papa, people just not respecting your line. I’ve got bad news for you; I’ve played a lot of Forza and can probably count on 1 hand the amount of players I’ve competed with that really know how to race side-by-side. It’s sad, really, but you’ll have to get used to it!

They shouldn’t have kicked you.

I’ve been doing a lot of online racing lately. And I’m getting better. I am getting to the point that I can drive alongside someone. But a big part of all that is knowing the tracks well and how fast you need to be going for every corner. And it’s just not going to happen that everybody knows it all. And there are going to be various degrees of skill level. Last night at Inineon, at the end of the esses before the little straight, before the hairpin right at the end, a guy overtook me on the right. And I had NO problem with it. However, I was trying to hug the inside corner and let him go but my momentum didn’t allow it and I bumped him off line. It wasn’t a violent bump, but it was enough that it spun him. I felt bad and I actually beat him in the race. I think he was a bit faster than I overall, but not enough to stay way ahead. Plus these guys, they can be fast but they spin out and then they play catch back up and I’m sort of like the tortoise. I might be a little slower but I might not be in the sand a lot. Although it happens on some tracks. Like Sonoma, I have a rough time with a couple of those corners there.

Anyways… Then one time at Mugelle short, we were taking that last turn and this one guy had that problem of being faster on the straights but slower in the corners. So I’d be faster than him through the left side of the course with all the curves. And I got passed him one lap but at the very last corner, you have to slow down a good bit, I was on the outside and he totally took the corner way too fast, and took me off the track with him. He was trying to pass me on the inside but his car couldn’t turn as fast as he wanted to go. It was very irritating, but I don’t think he meant to do it.

But there are varying degrees of ethics. Some guys just don’t give a rip. But there were a few races last night that were all completely clean. I was with 4 other guys in B Class at one point and they were all really close together, ahead of me, driving very clean. And I didn’t have anyone crazy to mess with me, so it worked out really well. I even finished with them despite that they were doing well.

Anyways… I think my point is: Be patient with people that are upstarts. And then as far as people that are reckless, I don’t know. Then there are the T boners which I wish would choke on their sodas while racing to get them off the game. And then there are the really fast guys that make it hard for us to finish sometimes. LOL.

As far as people kicking you out when you’re better? I guess you have to go race somewhere else then. That would suck.

When racing online you have got to assume not all racers are equal, They may be driving cockpit and not be able to switch views to see you next to them fast enough or if they are running a wheel you don’t have the option to look to the side. If they cant see your front end maybe to them you were dive-bombing the corner? If your times were so fast couldn’t you easily passed them on a strait? I’ve learned to be patient and give up the line go into the corner slow and come out fast then make the pass. Good clean racing is always fun and yes I run cockpit view and use a wheel.

You do have the option to look to the sides with a wheel. You have to remap the cameras in the set up menu. I’ve done it with both the MS wheel and my Fanatec.

I myself am driving with a wheel (wireless speed shell only, though) and cockpit or bonnet view and I must say that it is pretty much impossible to see someone passing or to see his precise position, even when using the “look left/right” view. I am off the kind who would say “the person/driver behind is responsible for a safe overtaking”, not the person being overtaken.

To their view you were just dive bombing (from what you were describing) as there is no peripheral vision while driving in forza. The person behind has a much better overview of the situation and should therefore expect drivers in front of him to drive their racing line and not expect them to realize you might be halfway on it.

Still, kicking you seems a bit harsh.

Yeah, the 92 Ford Escort. That is a bummer that it does that. I love that car. Hmmmmmmm…

Man that’s great didn’t know that I will make changes today. Thank you

I always use cockpit view. It’s part of the fun for me.

Seems like every time I try to use my look around thingy, it makes me miss a corner or something. I try to do it if I really want to know if there is someone next to me though. LOL. I’m getting better.

One day though, I could’ve swore the people in my mirror were opposite of where they were. Like I’d see them coming up on my right but then the were on my left. It doesn’t always do that though. And maybe it was just that there were two people, but I don’t know… I almost swear it was backwards once.

Driving VW Scirocco R or Ford Escort Cosworth perhaps? At least those two cars have the rear mirrors “inverted”, and what’s on your left will appear on your right. I have had few crashes just because of that.

And for the actual topic.

Yes I have had that happening to me. the drivers of the cars you collided with are what I call “hotlappers” They might be extremely fast around the track, know the best lines etc… How ever they have no slightest idea how to race. In their opinion if you are about to do passing move at end of the straight, they will turn in to you, and blame you for it, as you weren’t on “the fastest line” in other words “you should have not been there”, And therefore “you are the rammer”. Well that was slightly exaggerated version of “their” thinking.
My advice, Ignore them. It’s not worth thinking about it. you know that it’s not your fault.

One thing springed in to my mind. Zonda might not be leaderboard car. but it most certainly is “the next best thing” on Laguna Seca.
You said that you posted best laptimes on that track on that race, and Finished 3rd ovaerall even though you were involved in few crashes.
What was other drivers using? If the lobby was full of Lambo’s and Ferraris this shouldn’t be the issue, but if there was Jaguars, Astons, Skylines and such, they might have hated your car and the fact that if they wouldn’t ram you they wouldn’t have any chance to win. just because you were in superior car. in other words “LB car”
If that was the case, I can see why they had trouble with you in the first place. How ever I don’t accept their methods.

I don’t really buy into that “Oh that guy’s driving a leaderboard car!” idea. I’ve seen tons of people using a Lotus and running lap times 4 seconds slower than everyone else. Just because you’re using a car that’s good on the leaderboard doesn’t mean you’re a good driver. I have no problem with people using the so-called leaderboard cars. Certain cars are better on certain tracks. Road Atlanta? I’ll use some sort of Lamborghini with a good amount of horsepower. Laguna Seca? I’ll use something that has superior turning like a Zonda. Just yesterday I was running with a group of guys and one of them was using a freaking Datsun in an S-Class lobby on Camino Viejo Extreme Circuit. The guy had the second fastest lap time. It’s not just the car that counts, its how good of a driver the person is.

l’ve started racing online only recently annd quite chuffed if I finiish a race without a DNF for my time. However 9 times out 10 I’m forced of the track, sometimes by accident but more often deliberately.A couple of times I’ve moved to give room to pass and the passing cars still sent me spinning of the track. My skill level isn’t as good as some but I can do clean lap races albeit not as fast I would like.Just because some racers are fast does n’t make them good.

Yep. Same here. Yesterday I pulled over at the start of a race because I was first and wanted every one to get by, and some jerk rammed me so hard from behind, I flipped over and couldn’t race. He was one of the ones further back so he got some speed up. Maybe it was a mistake, but I don’t think so. There was one particular guy that whole session that was just purposely bumping off people that would get anywhere close to him. It’s so annoying.

HEY GANG!

IT IS NOT ONLY A PUBLIC LOBBY PROBLEM…
RECENTLY OUR CLUB, EVERCOOL RACING TEAM, WAS RUNNING AN INSTALLMENT OF A TRANS AM SERIES… MY WIFE, ROSIERACER, AND ANOTHER CLUB MEMBER WERE IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE HEADING DOWN BACK STRAIGHT TOWARDS FINISH LINE, ROSIE WAS AGAINST OUTSIDE WALL AND CLUB MATE WAS ON INSIDE BY OPPOSITE WALL, NEITHER COULD SEE THE OTHER…WHEN ROSIE MADE HER TURN FROM OUTSIDE TOWARDS END WALL AT CORNER …CLUB MATE INTERCEPTED AND CROSSED HER PATH JUST IN FRONT OF HER, RESULTED IN A HUGE CRASH WITH ABOUT 4 CARS INVOLVED! AND BASICALLY KNOCKED ROSIE OUT OF CONTENTION FOR PODIUM !

WE FILED COMPLAINT WITH RACE ORGANIZERS, REPLAYS WERE COLLECTED AND A WEEK OF REVIEW TO COME TO A DESISION OF TOO CLOSE TO CALL! I VIEWED ALL REPLAYS AND WAS TAKEN BACK AT HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE THERE WAS BETWEEN THE REPLAYS! THERE WAS NO TWO REPLAYS THE SAME! SOME SHOWED MEMBER CROSSING AHEAD OF ROSIE WHILE OTHERS SHOWED HER AHEAD ENTERING THE CORNER!

NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE FELT THE RULES HAD LET US DOWN ON THAT CALL!

IF MORE DRIVERS UNDERSTOOD HOW RACE TRAFFIC FLOWS AND HAD MORE RESPECT FOR SURROUNDING CARS, MOST OF THESE CRASHES WOULD BE OF THE RUBBING TYPE! LOL…

OUR HARD CORE DRIVERS IN CLUB ARE GREAT AT CLOSE RACING AND ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SITUATIONS, SOMETIMES THEY ARE 3 AND 4 WIDE ON TRACK WITHOUT INCIDENT…AND WE CALL TO OTHER DRIVERS, WHO CAN’T SEE OUR CARS IN BLIND SPOT, OUR PASSES ETC! MAKES FOR MORE ENJOYABLE TRACK TIME AND REDUCES FRICTION BETWEEN HIGHLY EMOTIONAL DRIVERS CAUGHT UP IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT!

BACK TO POINT…INTERCCEPTING RACE LINES ARE NOT A GOOD THING…ANYTIME A DRIVER IS RUNNING FULL SPEED DOWN A STRAIGHT ON INSIDE HE IS SETTING HIMSELF UP FOR A CRASH OR RUNNING WIDE ON EXIT OF CURVE. ANYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WOULD BE ON OR NEAR THE FASTER LINES OF TRACK AT THAT POINT ON THAT TRACK…AND WITHOUT VISUAL OF OTHER CAR AND NO VOCAL WARNING , THAT FAMOUS FORZA BLIND SPOT GOT HUGE DURING THAT MOMENT!

BUT TO BE FAIR I MUST SAY,SINCE RACING ONLY WITHIN CLUB MEETS , 99 PERCENT OF THE CRASHING INCIDENTS ARE NO MORE! WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM OF DRIVERS, AND WE HAVE LEARNED EACH OTHERS DRIVING STYLES , WHICH MAKES RACING TOGETHER AS GOOD AS IT GETS!

WE OPEN OUR MEETS TO FRIENDS AND INVITED GUEST! SO ANYONE WANTING TO RACE WITH RESPECTABLE DRIVERS ARE WELCOME TO CONTACT OUR CLUB OR ANY MEMBER TO SECURE A SPOT ON TRACK! ALSO YOU CAN VISIT OUR CLUB FORUM, SIGN UP WILL BE APPROVED ASAP! AND BY SIGNING IN ON FORUM, UNDERSTAND THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO JOIN CLUB TO BE A FORUM MEMBER! AND NO ONE WILL PRESSURE YOU TO JOIN AS WELL! GREAT GUYS WHO HAVE RACED TOGETHER FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS , WITH AN ALMOST FAMILY VIBE!

we meet twice a week for club events, and we host large events several times a year…

My rules are simple, you hit me and then slow down, brilliant and I will do the same if there is any accidental contact. If you don’t however I will badger you and stick to you like glue until I force an error, laughing when you plough into the wall…

Im a little late in getting back to this thread. A lot of people are saying “to them it might have just seemed like you were dive bombing them since they can’t see if a car is next to them, they might be in cockpit view, etc,” while I agree with this, it’s still no reason. I race in cockpit view, I don’t think I’ve ever raced in any other view. There is a meter on the left of the screen that shows the distance between yourself and the car in front and behind you. General rule of thumb, if a car is -15 feet behind you or less, their front bumper is at your rear bumper. That’s my biggest gripe. The meter is RIGHT THERE, it takes a quick glance to check it to see if there are any cars around you.

Tonight I was running the Nurburgring in S-Class, and I was running pretty close, 1st and 2nd, with someone in a Ferarri F 355. I kept checking that meter every 10 seconds or so to see where he was. Eventually we got towards Berwerk and he closed to -10 feet. We’re apexing now, he’s holding the outside, and because I looked at the meter I knew he was there. I stayed inside on exit instead of pushing wide and ended up staying in front. If I had been a lot of other people who don’t check that meter, he or I, or both of us, would’ve crashed.

All it takes is paying a little bit of attention to the meter, and you’ll never dip into someone elses line.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, and I can’t stress this enough, GET OUT OF THE PUBLIC LOBBIES!! Haha! While you can find some good racing and drivers in them, more often than not it’s like you all describe above. Your far better off trying the custom public lobbies. At least there your more likely to find drivers who at least respect the rules. Best option is to create your own lobby. Then not only can you control the type of racing you like to engage in, but as the host you also control the room. Only you have the power to kick anyone.

This is what i don’t get. People are always championing the user created lobbies so you’d expect they’re popular. I use them but nearly always I’ll join a lobby with a couple people in only, rarely ever any more than that. People are going crazy for searchable user created lobbies in Forza 5 yet they’ve been there the whole time in Forza 4 hardly getting used. For the most part i can find more competitive racing in the hoppers. More faster players.

That seems to be the problem on all racing games now in this day and age (in public lobbies) and even in some private lobby’s too. I come from racing in forza 3 to switch to f1 then back to forza 4 then back to f1 now am getting back into the swing of things in forza again and i must say am really enjoying it again. And i agree with most people’s reply’s people dont respect other drivers i drive in cockpit most of the time and i check before braking before turn in and on the exit of the corner to see where the other car is or if anyone is around me. Their really is no excuse for most of the poor showing of driving we see in racing games today. If they come to smash people off why dont they go to demolition derby type games ie footie cat and mouse etc. will we ever see GOOD CLEAN RACING IN PUBLIC LOBBIES FROM ALL DRIVERS i doubt it, But will live in hope that someday soon we will get some
