Forza Horizon 3 - DLC and Editions List [End of Life 9/27/2020]

FH3 Cars, DLC, and Editions List

EDIT: Forza Horizon 3 has reached “End of Life” status on the Microsoft Store as of September 27, 2020. "That means that the game and its associated DLC will no longer be available for purchase after that date. After September 27, 2020, players who own Forza Horizon 3 will still be able to download and play the game and its associated content as normal. "

Car List

FAQ: How can I get everything?

  • Besides the individual codes for pre-order retailer bonus DLC cars, the most efficient way to access all major content is the Ultimate Edition + Expansion Pass + Porsche Car Pack. Separately, you would need the All Stars Car Pack + VIP + Car Pass (or each of six monthly packs starting in October) + Porsche Car Pack + Expansion Pass (or both individual expansions). Some content requires gameplay to unlock/access: Horizon Edition cars and Forzathon award cars are only available to claim at certain times and are not listed in the Autoshow, but can be bought from other players in the Auction House.
  • DLC Extras such as the Treasure Map are not required since it simply accelerates normal gameplay discovery and most Car Horns are unlocked with Skill Shop Perks through gameplay. A small number of horns (Halo sounds, train/boat sounds) are only available through Forzathon events (console players may need XBL Gold membership) or the Horn Unlock Accelerator. Tokens are not required for gameplay.
  • To also get all the available free cars (non-DLC) at the start of the game, make sure you have: played FH2 and FM6; and own VIP in either FH2 or FM6; and have reached the highest tier level in Forza Rewards.
  • The Ultimate Edition was the only way to get Early Access on September 23.
  • The Ultimate Edition does not guarantee access to all DLC that may be released during or after the Car Pack period coverage, such as the Porsche Car Pack, DLC that may be available via gift or Store purchase, or codes only available for participating in sponsored promotions.
  • Play Anywhere (Xbox + Windows 10 copy) is only available by purchasing a digital edition, but will work with your existing gamesave from disc play if you later buy a digital license. DLC only needs to be purchased once to work on both platforms with the Play Anywhere benefit.

DLC car models cannot be bought from the Auction House unless you own the DLC. Barn Finds, Horizon Editions, Midnight Battle, Loyalty Reward cars, and Forzathon award cars (Warthog etc) can be bought from the Auction House and driven by everyone because they are not DLC cars.

DLC can be purchased via Store, Windows/Xbox apps, or the in-game pause menu Marketplace tab:

FH3 Car List - Autoshow vs unlocks vs DLC models

How many cars are in FH3? - updated August 1
There are overlapping answers to this question. There are 532 models identified in the Horizon Promo progress menu, including 14 traffic-only cars. Of the 518 drivable models, 416 do not require paid DLC, but some are not listed in the Autoshow or available from regular gameplay. The full 518:

  • 334 Autoshow models at launch
  • 4 Midnight Battle models
  • 3 Skill Shop models
  • 29 exclusive award cars (Forzathon/ForzaRC) added via free content updates (incl. Racemo and Duracell Spano)
  • 33 Horizon Edition variants of stock models (awarded via Wheelspins, selection rotated)
  • 20 Barn Find main map models (15 base + 5 added via free content updates)
  • 8 DLC Blizzard Mountain Expansion models (6 Autoshow + 1 gameplay award + 1 Barn Find)
  • 10 DLC Hot Wheels Expansion models (9 Autoshow + 1 Barn Find)
  • 10 DLC Motorsport All-Stars models
  • 5 DLC VIP models
  • 6 DLC Pre-Order variants of stock models
  • 56 monthly DLC models (Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr/Jun)
FH3 announced more than 350 cars plus DLC models at launch. See the Confirmed car list thread for ongoing discussion about models spotted in official gameplay and images. See the FH3 link at www.ManteoMax.com for a spreadsheet (in progress) of cars in FH3 compared to all cars from previous Forza games, and the visual database of cars at www.Kudosprime.com

Loyalty Award gift cars are not DLC models and can be obtained from the Autoshow for credits or tokens.

How do I find a car that isn’t in the Autoshow?
The following list indicates the type of availability for models that are not in the Autoshow. Cars from DLC packs can be seen in the Autoshow, but individual DLC (Pre-Order Edition) cars only appear in the Autoshow after their individual DLC code has been installed. See the Forzathon discussion thread and Contest thread for updates about Exclusive Bonus car awards. For Horizon Edition cars and the current models available from Wheelspins and Auction House sellers, see the most recent posts in that discussion thread.
Examples: the AMG Warthog is an Exclusive Bonus car that comes up as a Forzathon award from time to time, first added in October 2016 via content update (cu). Skill Shop cars are bought with Skill points after unlocking other Perks, Midnight Battle cars are won from beating those street race events.

Game Edition Comparison

FM.net: Pre-Order Announcement
FM.net: Features Announcement (E3 reveal)
FM.net: FH3 Loyalty Rewards Announcement (in-game gift cars and credits)
Xbox.com: Game page / Free Demo / Buy Editions
Release Date: September 2016 (see below)
Rating: ESRB-E, PEGI-3

Pre-Order Editions:
$59.99 Standard Edition (digital Xbox One/Windows 10 and retail disc)
$79.99 Deluxe Edition (digital Xbox One/Windows 10)
$99.99 Ultimate Edition (digital Xbox One/Windows 10, and retail SteelBook disc)

Xbox Play Anywhere Program
When you buy any digital version of the game you will own it on both Xbox and Windows 10 PC. DLC and game progress are then available on both platforms under your account. Play Anywhere is not available for disc versions, so if you buy the disc and then want to play on PC you would need to make a separate purchase (at which point you would then have a digital version on your Xbox, and purchased DLC would be available for it.) There is only one set of Achievements for FH3 which are unlocked for your account regardless of which platform you play on. Play Anywhere is not required for cross-platform multiplayer (Xbox players and Windows players in the same session). See the official Play Anywhere FAQ page and FM.net forum discussion thread.

Purchase methods

  • Digital versions are available from the Xbox dashboard or Xbox.com Store or Windows Store on your PC or via digital code printed on receipts at some retailers. Windows Store may redirect to Xbox.com Store - the result is still the same benefit. An actual Windows Store app for FH3 may appear closer to release date. See also the Gaming on Windows 10 support page at Xbox.com.
  • Disc versions are available from the Microsoft Store and other retailers.

Physical Disc Editions
Disc editions do not include Play Anywhere. Most retailers sell softcase Standard Edition discs. Select retailers will offer a SteelBook Ultimate Edition. Pre-Order Bonus DLC was available from select retailers:

Digital Edition Bundles/Bonuses
All digital versions include Play Anywhere. All digital editions purchased by 9/27/16 include the FH2 Rockstar Energy Car Pack DLC and the FM6 Meguiar’s Car Pack DLC.
Some retailers may sell codes to download digital editions, and select retailers include bonus DLC: Xbox dashboard purchases include the Mercedes C63 bonus DLC.

  • Standard Edition = bonus DLC Mercedes C63 when purchased from the Xbox dashboard
  • Deluxe Edition = bonus DLC Merc C63 + All-Stars Car Pack + VIP Membership
  • Ultimate Edition = bonus DLC Merc C63 + All-Stars Car Pack + VIP Membership + Car Pass + Early Access
Early Access / Pre-loading Release Dates
All digital editions can be pre-downloaded for play starting 12:01 AM EST on the release date. Discussion thread.
September 23, 2016 - Ultimate Edition owners get full access to the game
September 27, 2016 - Standard and Deluxe edition owners release date

Loyalty Rewards
Gift cars from Forza Rewards and previous gameplay and other VIP ownership are not tied to pre-order purchase and are not DLC; they can be obtained through game progress like any other car in the game roster. If you would like to start with as many gift cars as possible, make sure you’ve 1) played FM6 and FH2, and 2) own VIP for either one, and 3) reached Tier 10 by the time you launch the game. See the Loyalty Rewards announcement and overview post in this thread.

Pre-Order notes and FAQ

  • Early Access: Early Access cannot be purchased separately; only Ultimate Edition owners can play starting 9/23. Early Access is 12:01am EST worldwide, not midnight local time.
  • “Ultimate” Edition: The Ultimate Edition does not guarantee access to all DLC that may be released. Some packs may be released during or after the Car Pass period (October-March) that are not included.
  • Upgrading with DLC: currently VIP, Car Pass, and All-Stars pack are listed as Bundle Only but may be available separately later.
  • Pre-Order availability: there is no guarantee that the pre-order retailer bonus cars will be made available for purchase from the store after release date.
  • PC requirements: information is pending. See FM6:Apex requirements for a likely guide.
  • Xbox One vs Windows 10: game features are the same for each version; quality differences will be noted when info is available.

FAQ: How does FH3 differ from other Forza games?
Both Motorsport and Horizon games in the Forza franchise feature solo and multiplayer gaming. Forza Horizon games feature a focus on open world driving across variable surface types - drive down long roads, smash through breakable fences, drive off-road or through forests, collide with trees and rocks. The Forza Motorsport games focus on closed circuit racing on tarmac. Horizon also includes closed circuit races, as well as Playground Game modes found in Motorsport such Tag. Forza Horizon 3 will be the first Forza game available on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, and can be played against players on the same or other platform. Horizon games take place in the context of a music festival, with multiple music stations playing a curated songlist (FH3 includes the ability to play your own songlist from OneDrive). Horizon features dynamic transition of time of day and weather. FH3 plays at 30fps on the Xbox One but can be played at unlocked framerate and resolution on PC.

FAQ: How does FH3 gameplay differ from other racing/car games?
Forza games are typically rated E for Everyone (or T for Teen) similar to titles in the competitive sports genre. The game is designed to be accessible to a wide range of skill levels while delivering a realistic experience at high visual fidelity. Forza Horizon 3 includes both solo career and multiplayer gameplay (Xbox Live Gold membership required for multiplayer). Forza games do not feature out-of-car playable characters. Police and weapons are not typical features in Forza games.

FAQ: Do I need a wheel or other accessories to play FH3?
No extra equipment is necessary beyond an Xbox One and controller (or PC/keyboard/mouse) and a monitor. You can play with either the controller or compatible steering wheels. A headset is suggested for communicating in multiplayer but is not required. Kinect is not required but does have voice-activated GPS features when connected. An Xbox console is not required to play on the PC nor is a PC required to play the Xbox version.

Non-DLC Free Cars from Loyalty Rewards, Forza Rewards, and Gifts

Announcement: Loyalty Rewards
Overview: Forza Rewards
Forum: Loyalty Rewards discussion thread

Loyalty Rewards
Players can start FH3 with gift cars based on their previous experience with Forza games. These gift cars are not DLC models; if you do not meet the criteria before starting the game you will still be able to access the models in game like other cars. This reward should be effective no matter when you start the game. The rewards may not appear if you start FH3 first and then play FM6 or FH2 for the first time later. (Confirmation pending.) Meeting all loyalty criteria, players can receive up to 12 cars:

  • 2016 Audi R8 V10 plus
  • 2012 BMW M5 (F10)
  • 2009 Ferrari 458 Italia
  • 2017 Ford GT
  • 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor
  • 2005 Honda NSX-R
  • 2015 Koenigsegg One:1
  • 2014 Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4
  • 2014 Local Motors Rally Fighter
  • 2013 McLaren P1
  • 2003 Nissan Fairlady Z
  • 2013 SRT Viper GTSSee the Loyalty Rewards discussion thread for details on each car’s requirement.

Forza Rewards
Forza Rewards is a loyalty program that tracks your activity across the history of Forza games. By driving, purchasing DLC, unlocking Achievements and performing other tasks in each game, you earn cumulative points toward your Forza Rewards Tier. The higher your Tier, the more rewards you can receive every reward window (currently weekly). Often these rewards will be credits that will help you afford more cars. Players redeem rewards for each window via the Rewards section of this website (top menu bar) or the Forza Hub app for Windows 10 or for the Xbox console (or an in-game menu). Look for an update to Forza Rewards over the summer which will add points for Forza Horizon 3. See also the Loyalty and Forza Rewards discussion thread and the Forza Rewards FAQ thread for more information.

FH3 VIP membership gifts
The Pre-Order Announcement description of FH3 VIP Membership benefits includes “community gifts” which are typically Autoshow models with custom liveries applied. See the FH3 Contests and Gift List thread for these cars.

Contests
From time to time there may be contests run or sponsored by Forza with gift car prizes. See the FH3 Contests and Gift List thread for updated information and opportunities.

Pre-order DLC: Retailer bonus cars

FM.net: Pre-order Announcement

These cars are special DLC not available to purchase from the Xbox Store; each car is a separate DLC. Players must own the DLC for the individual model in order to bid on it in the Auction House. If you find this car in your garage but don’t own the DLC, you have the option to Remove it. Other attempted actions for pre-order cars without owning the DLC may result in “Marketplace Error.”

Per the Pre-Order announcement, “Pre-ordering Forza Horizon 3 will give you access to pre-order bonus car which are tied to participating retailers. These cars will be tuned to the top of their class and players will be able to automatically add them to their garage after redeeming the code provided by the retailer. Here’s how the breakdown will work for participating U.S. retailers. Those outside of the U.S. should check with their local participating retailers to see which cars will be available per outlet.”

Pre-Order models do not have liveries applied. These cars have untuned versions of the same models in the regular game roster and are treated as separate models (“Pre-Order Edition”) due to the upgrades; players can still drive a Hellcat in the game even if they don’t buy from Gamestop.

VIP Car Pack and Membership

FM.net: Pre-Order Announcement
Forums: discussion thread
Microsoft.com: Store
Release date: September 2016
Price: $19.99 (or included with Deluxe and Ultimate Editions)

The VIP Membership DLC is an add-on that increases the game roster by 5 exclusive cars, and provides exclusive in-game benefits. VIP membership is included with the purchase of the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions of the game. This DLC was listed as “Bundle Only” during pre-order but was made available as a separate DLC after release that can be used to upgrade your Standard Edition (disc or digital).

VIP Cars

  • 2015 Ferrari F12tdf
  • 2015 Ford Falcon GT F 351
  • 2016 Koenigsegg Regera
  • 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV
  • 2015 Ultima Evolution Coupe 1020
    VIP Benefits
  • VIP wheel spins with extra rewards each time you level up
  • access to exclusive online events
  • community gifts (liveried cars)
  • “and more” (typically an icon for multiplayer/leaderboard display)

Shared DLC note
In previous Forza games, VIP cars have been accessible to other accounts on the same console as the owner account. However, VIP benefits have been limited to the DLC owner only, so other accounts have not had the VIP icon or extra wheel spin bonus. Other accounts on a shared console may need to purchase VIP DLC themselves if they wish to access these benefits (or FH3 may have changed its approach, TBA). For pre-order, this may mean needing to purchase a full edition bundle. When the dashboard Store indicates “installed” other accounts may be able to purchase from the Xbox Store (.com or app).

Microsoft.com: Store
Effective: October 2016
Price: $29.99 (included with Ultimate Edition)

The Car Pass is a bulk discount on six specific monthly car packs, each containing 7 cars. These packs can be purchased individually, but by owning the Car Pass the 42 cars are provided for a lower total cost. The Car Pass is included with the Ultimate Edition bundle. The Car Pass was listed as “Bundle Only” during pre-order became available for separate purchase after release for Standard and Deluxe Edition owners. The Car Pass can be purchased after included packs have been released but there is no refund for packs you purchase before purchasing the Car Pass.

The Car Pass itself does not include: Pre-Order cars, VIP cars, the All-Stars Car Pack, Expansions, or other car packs non-regular monthly car packs released during or after the months covered by the Car Pass. As of March 2017 there is no Car Pass 2 or ability to purchase the Car Pass again for future DLC.

The included cars are available immediately once you own the Car Pass and there is no need to purchase or download individual car packs. The first car of each model is Free to collect, and each additional car you buy will cost credits. DLC cars can be auctioned but only players who own the correct DLC will be able to bid on the car. DLC cars apparently can be used by everyone in Bucket List Blueprint events by when set up by a DLC owner.

The Treasure Map is an unlock option for all editions of the game at any time. The Treasure Map can be purchased from the Windows Store, dashboard Store, in-game Marketplace tab (Extras tile), or from the map itself by pressing Y.

Purchasing the Treasure Map will reveal the exact location of all Bonus Boards, Beauty Spots, Bucket List Blueprints, and Barn Finds (as they become unlocked) on your World Map. The Treasure Map is not required to find items or to complete the game; these places show up on the map as you get close to them with your car or drone. (If you don’t have Barn Finds coming up on your map (purple circles around the area), try progressing through game prompts to win events and fans and build up Festival Sites; keep your radio on; and reset your map filter to make sure Barn Finds are shown.)

The Car Horn accelerator is an unlock option for all editions of the game at any time. The horn unlock can be purchased from the Windows Store, dashboard Store, in-game Marketplace tab (Extras tile), or from the garage menu by pressing Y.

Expansion Pass

FM.net: November information
Forums: discussion thread
Microsoft.com: Store
Effective: December 2016
Price: $35

The Expansion Pass is a bulk discount on two specific expansion packs. Expansions add new features to the game such as maps, cars, and additional Achievements. Each expansion can be purchased individually, but owning the Expansion Pass provides both for lower overall cost than buying separately. Owners of one of the expansions won’t receive a discount against the price of the Pass and are better off simply purchasing the other expansion if they would like to own both. The Expansion Pass is not included with any game edition, and applies to different DLC from the Car Pass.

“Here are this week’s games and add-on deals on the Xbox Games Store. Discounts are valid now through 05 September 2016.”

Although this sale does not include FH3, there are significant discounts on FM6 editions and playing it (and owning FM6 VIP from the Ultimate Edition) will help increase the number of Loyalty Reward cars you receive at the start of FH3. (Loyalty Reward cars are not exclusive; you can obtain the same models from regular gameplay, so previous Forza experience is not mandatory to access them.)

The Warthog is a special access car in FH3 that is similar to Barn Finds in that anyone can drive one and buy/sell it in the Auction House, but it isn’t available in the Autoshow to buy. The August announcement of the Warthog included a DLC code for Halo players (sent via Xbox Live Message), which was distributed throughout the month of September. (If you redeemed your code, go to My Games & Apps > Manage Game > Warthog Details and click Install.) Unlike other promotional DLC or regular DLC cars, this DLC was a gift car which added the car to the player’s garage but not the Autoshow. Players who missed the opportunity to get a gift code from playing Halo will be able to win a Warthog from an October Forzathon event requiring multiplayer playground games wins (seen in Achievements). Players who miss either opportunity may buy a Warthog from the Auction House without the need for DLC.

The Warthog is classified in the Extreme Offroad car type at A800 and only has options for wheel upgrades.

“While players will have a chance to earn the Warthog via a special #Forzathon^ event in October, there’s no better way to kick off your FH3 experience on Sept. 27 than by knowing that the Warthog is waiting for you. To get your Warthog code, you need to play either Halo 5: Guardians or Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One by September 23. After that you’ll be automatically sent a code in your Xbox Live Message Center.”^ See the discussion thread linked above for questions about missing code messages.

“Traversing fantastic and rugged terrain is what this machine was designed for, and part of translating that to Forza Horizon 3 has meant bringing the longest suspension travel (70cm) of any vehicle in the game, and that includes the bevy of amazing buggies you will find on the roster. Damping is also beyond what any current technology can do. Considering the massive size of the Warthog FAV (Force Application Vehicle) it simply wasn’t feasible to directly co-opt it into being Earth-friendly, so a new model was conceived between Playground, Turn 10, and the folks at 343. “We had to think about how the world of Forza Horizon 3 differed from the Warthog’s natural habitat,” Phillips said. The M12 CST is 33 percent smaller and 50 percent faster than the FAV. Also, the FAV’s rear-wheel-steering feature would have made the CST unstable at high speeds, so it was excluded from development.”^
