CWAD Carroll Shelby Celebration 2021-2022-2023 Championship

Hello there fellow race-fans and motor-heads!!

CARWARS AutoDuelists is bringing back the Thursday Night Sprints. Open to players/drivers of all experience levels. No bashers or trash-talkers are tolerated. Weekly sessions start at 7:00pm Eastern Standard Time every Thursday night. Usually four 15 minute sprint events each night. Every driver gets the chance to determine a type of car or where we’re racing at some point in the championship using a round robin style scoreboard. FIRST RACE of the new season is January 13th 2022! PM me here or on XboxLive.

Meanwhile the Sunday night championship CARROLL SHELBY CELEBRATION is going strong heading into week 33!! The CSC is another championship open to players/drivers of all levels. This is a role-playing sorta league where I run races based loosely on the historical career of Mr. Carroll Shelby and Shelby American. We try to race the tracks that he raced in the cars that he drove/raced, built or designed. We’re currently racing the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 in B600 class. Sound interesting? If so again PM me here or on XboxLive.

Both championships use the standard CARWARS 10 point reward system:
1st+10pts / 2nd+9 / 3rd+8 / 4th&5th+7 / 6th&7th+6
8th,9th&10th+5 / 11th,12th,&13th+4 / 14th,15th&16th+3
17th,18th,19th&20th+2 / 21st,22nd,23rd&24th+1

CARROLL SHELBY CELEBRATION
Week 1: 2021-03-07 (1952-09-07)
CAR: 1954 Jaguar XK120SE @ E300
100 mi of Road America East, West & Full

On September 7th 1952 at the age of 29, Carroll Shelby drove Ralph Richter’s #24 Jaguar XK120 in the “200 Miles of Elkhart Lake.” They finished in 12th place. At the time Elkhart Lake had 2 public road layouts, the shorter dangerous city triangular route and the longer safer rural squarish route. The 200 Mile event combines both shorter routes into a longer 6+ mile long track. To celebrate this early race we will be racing the various Road America tracks which also reside near Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin.

CAR: 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder @ D400
90 Minutes of Silverstone

On September 17th 1955, now 32, Carroll Shelby drove Huschke von Hanstein’s #28 Porsche 550 Spyder in the FIA Worlds Sports Car Championship Round 5 Tourist Trophy in Dunrod Ireland. They won their Sports1500 class and placed 9th over all for that weekend. Dunrod Circuit is a lengthy 11.9km long. 64 cars entered six available classes in this brutal multiclass race, 49 made it to the start line and only 27 crossed the finish line. It was a very warm and long race day, but it did start raining as they approached the half point of the event. To celebrate this event, we are racing for 100 miles, broken up using all three track layouts at Silverstone International Speedway in England.

Maserati entered 3 factory built racers and none of them lasted the whole 12 hours. To commemorate this event, we race our B600 class 300S’ for 45 minutes of daylight and 45 minutes of night time driving. Who will come out on top?

CAR: E3-D4-C5-B6 Multiclass
Return to Palm Springs

On April 7th 1957 Carroll Shelby returned to Palm Springs, California to take part in the Los Angeles SCCA multiclass race, this time in John Edgar’s #98 Maserati 300S. They finished in 2nd place. In order to celebrate this event, we return to Forza’s brutal Sonoma Circuit utilizing the fast NASCAR short circuit and compete in our favourite cars of the last four weeks competing in those respective classes in our first full length 90 minute endurance event spanning a maximum of 63 laps for the B600 class Maserati 300S’. First up however, everyone had to post a clean flying qualifier lap in the B600 Maserati scoring a clean flying lap, then we ran a live 1/4 mile drag race in a stock Maserati 300S to determine launch order for the individual classes.

CARROLL SHELBY CELEBRATION
Week 6: 2021-04-11 (1957-05-19)
CARS: '57 Maserati 300S & '57 Scaglietti Corvette (Ferrari California)

On May 19th 1957 Mr. Shelby had to drive two different cars in two different events on the same day! The first race an hour long timed event once again using John Edgar’s Maserati 300S in which they placed first! The second race was a 20 lap event using his own #64 '57 Scaglietti Corvette, which was the shell of a Ferrari California Coupe on the frame and suspension of a '56 Chevrolet Corvette with a 4.5L (283ci) V8 from a Chevrolet “Tri-Five” (aka Bel Air and Nomad), in which he placed 2nd.

To celebrate this we use Forza Mojave Desert Airfield Test Track and do 3 20min timed races using first the Maserati, then the “Corvette” and lastly we choose from both cars on the track at the same time. We used three CarWars standard drag races as a time trials to determine launch order for all three races!

Week 7: April 18th 2021 (1957-07-02)
CARS: '57 Maserati 300S & '57 Scaglietti Corvette (Ferrari California)

June 2nd 1957. Once again Shelby takes both the Maserati and the Scaglietti and runs preliminary 10 lap time-trials at Eagle Mountain National Guard base. Unfortunately due to the weather he is unable to complete either time trial and therefore could not race for SCCA points. In the first race he crashed the Scaglietti and in the second race the Maserati suffered critical engine failure, therefore he was unable to even finish either race for prosperity. In commemoration we grab our B600 Maseratis and Scagliettis and go to Forzas’ Maple Valley race tracks and do our best to finish despite the rain!

June 9th 1957. Mr. Shelby rocks Lime Rock taking first place in the timetrial and leading 38 of the 40 laps on this warm sunny summer afternoon. John Edgar switched the placard number to #8, but that didn’t slow the Maserati 300S at all! To commemorate this event we offer two time trials (a CarWars week long B600 Rivals and a mid day cold lap drag race) and two 40 lap averaging races on Lime Rock Full Circuit! May the best Maserati win!

Week 9: May 9th 2021 (1957-07-14)
CAR: '57 Maserati 300S

July 14th 1957. Once again claiming race #98 for their placard, Shelby races Edgar’s Maserati 300S. Carroll was the youngest driver on the track at 34 years old, but this wouldn’t help him win the preliminary or the main race at Marlboro Raceway. In fact, they didn’t even finish either races. For our league we are using the newer Yas Marina Corkscrew and North Corkscrew for track layout similarity.

July 28th 1957, Shelby builds his own '57 Maserati 300S and drops one of the spare 4.5L Tri-Five engines from the Scaglietti Covette cars into it, dubbing it the “Maserati 450F.” He used the car several times, including dominating this regional SCCA event back at Lime Rock where he took 1st place overall events of the day. To honour this we take our very own 450Fs to Lime Rock and battle it out for 20 laps each on all 4 layouts!

March 22 1958. For the “Amoco Trophy 12 Hours of Sebring” Shelby and Salvadori team drive David Brown’s 1958 Aston Martin DBR1-300. Despite an impressive qualifier they did not manage to finish the race. To commemorate, we do 1 hour endurance in the same car but built and tuned to our own specifications. Note: this race and following three weeks all used the same car at the same class in four single 60 minute races. You could change your tune each week, but the car had to have the same build at A700.

April 5th 1959. Shelby enters the 1000KM of Daytona with two cars, his B class Maserati 300S driven by team-mates Krause and Ruby and his custom built A class Maserati 450F driven by himself. The race was ended early due to track power issues causing lighting failures after the sun went down. Krause and Ruby finished in 13th place over all, while Shelby finished 15th place over all. To commemorate this event we take our favourite car of the two classes and tackle all Daytona layouts after running qualifiers and time trials in the brand new 1959 Chevrolet Corvette!
