    No Car Damage in GT5?

    Uh oh...

    http://www.ps3blog.net/2007/04/16/no-damage-in-gran-turismo-5/

No Damage in Gran Turismo 5?

Reader derrickgott007 had a little PM conversation with one of the GT devs (skebe) over at the official PlayStation Forums.

    It sent something like this:

derrickgott007: People are already exploting the no damage to ruin the leaderboards….There are videos on Youtube on how to get 1.07min lap times by fence riding and going full speed into the turns to riccoceht off the fence….Please put in damage to stop these people.

skebe: Sorry for not being able to respond earlier… didn’t know until today that this forum had a PM feature

Although we’re not ready to implement damage until they can be shown in a truly authentic way (which is extremely hard work if you think about it), we are doing our best to avoid these kind of ‘cheating’ to take place.

derrickgott007: I understand what you are saying about the hard work…..But FORZA 2 has damage, and so does the TOCA series…If GT5 had damage it would be UNSTOPPABLE.

skebe: No I mean, really really really hard work… to the extent of creating another game, almost. From our standards, what other racing games are doing is ’simplified damage’. You know how **bleep** we are when making our games… we would want to simulate every single dent differently

    Gran Turismo HD Concept

Ah well, too bad. Can’t have it all I guess. But I think than Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3 will still be a fun game…

Interesting. I didn't realize that one could still do fence/wall riding in GT:HD. I guess they'll implement a penalty timer or something like that?

    Forza2 all the way man!

That's a shame. It's just going to be the same old Gran Turismo again. All this one has going for it is the graphics. I still want it though! Big Smile [:D]

Re: No Car Damage in GT5?

Haha Polyphony have all the time in the world to create a game with car damage but they rather release a immediate sequel to get everyones money. In every GT i have played all they do is enhance the graphics and add a few cars and then call it a sequel. lol Gran Turismo is no longer the "Real Driving Simulator" Forza is!

Re: No Car Damage in GT5?

    ok, let me undestand:

They think that Forza 2 damage (on the limit of the production car damage) and the toca series damage (way over the limit of the production cars brans will alows) are simplistic? hmm? how the hell the even think they could do a much better damage on production cars than Toca series which use racing cars? Maybe is just a sad excuse to not add damage.

Then what will happen if they add damage in GT6 and is not has impresive, perfect or blabla how they even promise, fans will ask: why didnt do this 8 years ago?

Well.. at least this time they have Ferrari and hopefully they will add even more good cars and have a decent collision detection.

BTW CHE, please guys never be like polyphony, keep listen us your fans on what we want, now for Forza 3 (and fixes for Forza 2).

Re: No Car Damage in GT5?

I think that damage is important in a game. I recently bought an Xbox 360 and PGR3 with it. When I play it online the race is pretty much decided on the first turn. If I can get through the first turn without getting hit I pretty much win the race.

You mean you actually expect us to build a new engine for this new game on this new console? Bah!

I'm no MS fanboy, but Sony's spin machine just cracks me up sometimes.

Well, of course when making the Ultimate Driving Simulator™, if you can't make the damage 100% authentic, then it's far more realistic to have...no....damage.....at all.  Um.  Yeah.

I wish I could use that excuse in my every day life.  "I would have gone the speed limit, officer, but my standards are so high and exacting, that I feel that if can't keep the needle locked right in at 55.0000 MPH throughout my entire drive even with hills, curves, and a lack of cruise control, then there's no way I can claim I'm following the law, so I figured it would be just as bad if I were going 83."

Re: No Car Damage in GT5?

Its pretty sad that they need excuses not to have damage...

BUT the real dissapointment, is their complete lack of AI...  I wonder if this is "really really really hard to do"  -   All of their cars drive in a line, they dont know where you are, nore do they care.... If you drive into their line, they will hit you...

Its been 4-5 versions of GT and I still havent raced a 'smart' opponent.....  (although i have had fun with GT games... that is, until i played Forza1)

I guess Turn10 is eithere working really really really really hard or they know what they are doing  so it only appears  that they work as hard as that guys says.   Turn10 is the best.

Re: No Car Damage in GT5?

I had planned to drop the $500 for a PS3 when GT5 came out, but after reading that, what is there to look forward to in GT5?  Just prettier pictures?  Bah - they can keep their PS3 then.
