Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter (NEW END DATE)

Hello Forza fans, and welcome to my world.

My name is Andrew and I’m a Lead Track Artist here at Turn 10 Studios. I started with Turn 10 in 2008 after college and worked as an Environment Artist on Camino Viejo and Amalfi Coast.  On Forza 4, I took over as Lead on the Bernese Alps.  My duties involve, designing the track layout, establishing visual moments, and of course leading our crack team of Artists through production.

The Challenge for this week is the Club Circuit, which is my favorite Alps Ribbon. I designed this circuit to be about flow and carrying speed.  Double apex turns, brave braking zones, and flat third gear corners, this track rewards a smooth driver with balls of steel.

Fun fact; Club Circuit was originally slated to be the first track in the game as well as the only track in the demo.

    The gauntlet:

I’m the fastest driver on the track team and I guarantee I’ve driven more laps around the Bernese Alps than any of you. If you think you can beat me on my track, I’ll send you back to Sidewinder where you belong. This is my mountain!

In all seriousness, good luck and I hope you guys have as much fun racing our fictitious tracks as I do working on them. I'll be lapping more and more as the week goes on, so check back here for updated lap times.

    Event: High Noon Saloon
    Gamertag: Japandru
    Start: Thursday Aug 9th
End: Friday Aug 17th 8am PST.
    Time: 1:20.259

    Day 1 Lap Time: 1:25.904

    Day 2 Lap Time: 1:22.032

Day 7 Final Lap Time 1:20.259

The side challenge this week is about race tracks. What is the most important characteristic of a race track and why?
I’ll be reading your replies and giving my favorite poster a unicorn of their choice. After your answer be sure to include the unicorn you want if I pick you.

UPDATE: Hey everyone, so I didn’t read the rules template very well and thought the contest went until 8pm not 8am. So I’m going to push the end date to Friday the 17th at 8am. Fred is going to be mad at me, but I want to give everyone a fair chance to beat my time.

Look forward to taking you down :P

Thanks for taking the time to put this on for the community!

The most important thing about the track isnt the track itself. Its about the relatonship between the car and the track. How hard you can push it. How hard can i take this turn. Can i take this one full out? nope I just hit a wall :(

On the other hand there is nothing that gets me pumped up more then making a pass through the corkscrew at Laguna Seca!

Look forward to your challenge. I really like the Alps circuits, my favorite fantasy tracks in the game. As far as track characteristics, a good track needs at least 2 or 3 Braking zones at the end of straights to set up more chances for overtaking. Otherwise just an overall flow to it so you can get into a good rhythym

Re: Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter

The most important feature of a racetrack for me is the technicality of the corners. Anyone can blat down long straights, brake like chuff and nail a corner.  I prefer corners that change attitude or camber mid apex (hello Corkscrew) or ones that dare you not to lift before entering a sharp chicane (hi there 130R). Basically any corner that's willing to catch you out should you give it an inch (of runoff) Wink

Looks like a fun challenge. I'm excited to beat your time Wink

For the side challenge, i think the most important aspect of a track is its diversity. Cars and their drivers are challenged most not only when there are mile long straights that test stability and of course top speed and braking, but also hair pin turns and sweeping follow throughs that test response and grip. On a track like this, a car and driver can't only be good at one aspect of circuit racing, they have to be a master of all aspects to be successful.

The most important part of a track is....

As a spectator - The number of passing opportunites(and location of bathrooms and concession stands near them, lol)

As a driver - The "flow" of the track".  That is, if you are driving you feel like you can smoothly setup the entrance to every turn from the exit of the last one, a nice rhythm you can make your car dance to.

Welcome, looking forward to the challenge!

Re: Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter

I think the most important part of any circuit race track is to have at least one staright away to open the car up and to have some tight turns along with some winding turns. Makes for more fun and the need for skill in all the race features.

Re: Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter

Hello Andrew! I can't wait to see what times you're capable of on the track you designed, this ought to be a good challenge!

As for what makes a good track in my opinion, I like a variety of corner types, lots of elevation changes and at least one longish straight with some hard braking zones. Blind crests, jumps and tricky double apex corners are always a nice bonus as well!

For me when I drive a good track with flow and variety the scenery around the track melts away (I bet it pains you to hear that, considering I bet you put a lot of time and effort into those visuals!) and it's like I'm driving through a tunnel that's exactly as wide as the racing line and no more, just focusing on linking apexes and carrying as much speed as possible. At least until I make a mistake and go wide and get a dirty lap of course. Stick out tongue

Oh yeah, a nice generous boundary of where the track limits are is ALWAYS a good feature! Big Smile

Re: Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter

    Looking forward to the challenge.

As to the side question, the most important thing for a racetrack in my mind is that it be challenging enough to reward the skillful, yet simple enough to be appealing to the neophyte racer.

I'm sure you are all too aware of what a delicate balance that can be.

    Hello Andrew,

I am very excited to test my skill against one of the people that designed one of the best fake tracks in a long time. I am also very excited to see you gave us the option to vote for the Mugen integra. That is one of the 2 last cars I need and really enjoy at least having the change to vote for it.

Re: Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter

Congrats on the Bounty selection, sounds like you really do know your way around the track for this event.  I'll do my best to beat you though ;)

What is the most important characteristic of a race track and why?

Well, first let me say that Im kinda like a "Sunday driver" in FM4.  I like to look at my surroundings and enjoy all the beautiful scenery and the little details that the artistic minds from Turn10 put onto each track.  With that being said, to me the most important characteristic of a race track is the scenery/landscape or overall theme.  I have been getting into photography in this game as well, so I can appreciate some awesome scenery/landscape from each track.  If I want to take a photo of a car, I immediately know a handful of tracks that produce the best shots.  Why?  Cause their scenery/landscape is way better than others.  The detail that those specific tracks have the things that put them above any others.  Take Bernese Alps for example - I love the overall theme to this track!  The mountains and the snow provide great scenery and a stable landscape to start from, but there are other details that complete the theme like the ski lift and the lodges.  As you race the track you see a different thing that connects the overall theme together.  Great track, you guys did very well on that one ;)  So I hope that I have provided enough in my answer for you to take into consideration for a Unicorn car.  Good luck in the event :)
