[Tutorial] How to Make Custom Manufacturer Decals in the Livery Editor

    Hello aspiring painters!

Below is a tutorial on how to make custom manufacturer decals in the livery editor.  I honestly have no idea how useful this will be, but I sincerely hope this will be helpful to some of you aspiring painters.

I am by no means an expert with the livery editor, so I may not be able to provide many useful tips or tricks.  However, what I have learned while observing some of the fantastic replica artists here on these forums is that attention to details can transform a good livery into a great one.  One aspect of these so-called "details" is the use of custom-made manufacturer decals, and so I thought that perhaps I could show some of you how this is done.

The tutorial below gives you step-by-step instructions for making a Ferrari logo on the roof of a MINI.  I choose this decal because it does make use of spin and skew with some the layers while still being fairly straightforward.  I should note though that the Ferrari logo seen here is the one I made for SW2's Livery Competition a little over two months ago.  (Thank you Dewstain and Darkpagey for organizing that competition!)

So the table and pictures below should give you everything you need to make the logo yourself.  Obviously, there are many ways to make a logo, but what I wanted to do here is give you an idea of how logos are constructed.  I'm hoping that seeing an example of how one logo is made will help you when you begin to make your own logos.  Sure, it does take a while to make them, but remember attention to detail is important here.

Alright, I hope there are some here on the forums that will find this helpful, and I welcome you to try making this Ferrari logo on your own.  If anything is unclear and needs clarification, please let me know.

    Thanks!!  Big Smile [:D]

    **OTHER SUGGESTIONS**

    1. If you want to create custom manufacturer decals for those that are already available in the game, you can use the in game ones as templates and then overlay layers on top to make the letters / shapes. - Jizzy Shizno

    2. For decals with multiples of the same letter, such as "r" in the Ferrari logo below, you can highlight all the layers that make up the letter and stamp them to make the others. - Raudi

Good job Nahos... but you can also buy a ferrari, put the Ferrari Logo on the roof and blow it up and just layer over top of it... you can make it that way also...

    Thanks guys!  Smile [:)]

Hopefully, this is helpful for budding artists who are looking to learn a bit more about how logos are made.  I just happened to pick the Ferrari logo I made because I thought it was one of my better logos (an award winning logo actually Stick out tongue [:P]) and because I thought it might serve as a pretty good example.

And damn right it was and it deserved it! Still, i can't get over the way you made it. Would've never thought of skewing the letters 'n' stuff!

Rating it 5 stars now... Thanks for the tutorial mate.

I've never understood why people use "L" or "I" instead of squares.

    Why is this?

Because with the I & L you can alter the size fractionaly whereas a normal square you don't get that fractional control over the sizes Wink [;)]

Yup, nothing worse than sliding a block into place & no matter what you do or where you position it, the thing will not line up what you're trying to join it with...letters make a really good alternative sometimes.

Excellent tutorial Nahos, clearly took a lot of time to put together. Cool [H]

Re: [Tutorial] How to Make Custom Manufacturer Decals in the Livery Editor

    Excellent tutorial!
I would like to add something, which is if you are replicating a logo already in the game, put a large version of that logo down on the roof, and then with a different color, cover up that logo with shapes exactly. Then pull away the pre-made logo, and youve got a custom made one. I did this with my Blitz, HKS, and Sparco logos.
