A few months back I had the opportunity of running an Open A-class race on Mugello. My weapon of choice was the Tuscan S. Not too similar to the 350Z. I was looking over your notes and several things jumped out to me.
Enter the moral dilemma. I'm more than happy to help, but if I post my thoughts in the open all of your competition will have your information. I don't have a specific tune for this car but I do have one that I really want to put together. Sounds like Mugello may be the place for it.
When is your big race? If I can put one together and feel confident about it I'll PM it to you to try. If it suits you use it, if not, than I tried.

Agreed-I don't sell tunes so keep your cash. I'll try to get something together this week and have it PM'd by Friday. After your race I'll post the tune and setup on this thread for the masses. Now get to practicing, find a comfortable car and work on your racing line.
Phillie - I'm sure your (Mugen) Integra is faster than the 350Z but I'd like to see your laptimes! Besides I only race Rear Wheel Drive so its apples and oranges.

Re: Class A 350 Fairlady Z Class-A -> Mugello race...need help tuning. =/
Took some time to run the car tonight. I was pleasantly suprised at how it handled Mugello.
I started by running it stock. My fastest time was a 2:04.954. I thought the car was well balanced, it gripped well and the brakes were great. To top it off the car even sounded good. Stock gearing lef a lot to be desired from the engine but not bad, very trackable car.
I added all of the adjustable plaform parts and retested the car to see what a lower, slightly upgraded car did. Well it did a 2:04.068, not a huge improvement but all I changed was the platform parts, I didn't adjust anything, not tweeking, just running the car a bit. I did notice a slight increase in the cars off throttle oversteer and then the on throttle oversteer followed after 3 laps.
Next I built the entire car out to full A850 spec, not adjustments just built and ready to tune. I needed another baseline so I hit the track for 3 more laps. Wow, what an improvement, the car pulls well, it handles great, the extra power made the car a bit more manageable as I could control it better but the added grip was amazing. No problems around the course anywhere, and there is potential to have disaster anywhere. I squeeked out a 1:56.187, a huge jump, but all the PI I burned reflected it.
On to tuning, I needed to change some things to make the car better. First I lowered the tire pressures and ran a warm up lap, then I changed the final drive to match the track and reduce shifting in and near the turns. I was down to a 1:55.495 at that point but it wasn't perfect. Next I adjusted the vehicles Bias to load the rear a bit. Then the brakes got some attention to help with the braking oversteer I experienced in some of the sweepers and while trail braking. Last I reduced the diff settings a bit and added some aero. Both of those were done to keep the rear end under wraps. It was never unruly but I wanted it planted all the time. After several 3 lap sessions I whittled my time around there to a pretty good 1:53.904. Not a personal best but I didn't expect the 350Z to take the top spot.
I'm very happy with the car and I wanted to prove it but noone was running A-class Mugello last night online. I started a romm with no joiners so its gonna have to do. Hope it turns out well for you.
Agreed-PM'd the build and setup. For the rest of you, I'll post it after the race is over. (don't want to tip my hand just yet). Good luck!

Re: Class A 350 Fairlady Z Class-A -> Mugello race...need help tuning. =/
not sure how you built the car, I noticed in your original post you didn't have it this way, but if you didn't build it using race weight reduction, race tire compound, max tire width and full forza aero kit (with DF maxed out), you are making a big mistake.

My thoughts exactly. Is everyone's 350z suppose to built the way you posted or can you build it to whatever specs you want, as long as its RWD? Like sneaky said, if it doesnt have race weight reduction, full tire width, & slicks, then you do not have the right build for Mugello.

Re: Class A 350 Fairlady Z Class-A -> Mugello race...need help tuning. =/
Maxed DF? ? ? ? ? I experienced a lot of push with too much front downforce and the tires were overheating. I balanced the suspension of the car and left the front downforce at default.
Also, I didn't like the feel of the car with the tires staggered as much as they are at max width. Again too pushy. Removing one tire width and using mid grade slicks should be good for a long 20 lap race. Plus the extra PI, although minor, allowed for a small power upgrade for the long straight. I was rarely at a loss for grip, the car is easily drivable with the throttle and the tires weren't tragic after 6-7 laps.
There is no standard build for any track, it really comes down to personal preference. My build suits me and I like it just fine. Its even grippy enough to run down AWD Version S's on Maple Valley, quite balanced to me.

Re: Class A 350 Fairlady Z Class-A -> Mugello race...need help tuning. =/
Build wise, I agree for the most part that you'll be better off with full race weigth reduction, forza aero, and racing tires. I wouldn't go full downforce settings though. I'd run something like 100/200 or 150/300, and tune accordingly.
You'll need all the traction you can get because a long race like that is going to work your tires over. The less sliding you do the easier it will be to keep temps in check. At 20 laps you'll probably have to pit at least once on sim mode.
Concentrate the build and tune on being "driveable", not stupid fast. Consistency will be the key to a good finish.

I am curious about why you would want your brake bias at 68%, pressure at 187% with no ABS. What kind of techinique are you using?

Fit, Like i keep telling everybody, stop judging the car by the driver. I could run circles around some people driving fully tuned stingrays in a stock shelby cobra or something, it doesn't mean its better. There is a best build, and its for how we keep telling you to build it. Now if for some reason you have more trouble controlling a better handling car (I would like to see that one), then its just not for you.

Re: Class A 350 Fairlady Z Class-A -> Mugello race...need help tuning. =/
Sneaky, I'm pretty sure I understand what your talking about. I normally don't care what anyone drives, I'll still pick the car I want to drive. However, there is a stereotype around all of the dominant cars. The theory is that those cars are unbeatable no matter who drives them. Most people at one time or another have tried to build out a leaderboard car and set a tip time with it. Ultimately it all comes back to the driver.
As far as the best build, I 90% agree with you. Sure there is a build path that lends itself to different tracks but there isn't one set "best" build. -Recently I was gifted an AG tuned car. I don't know what the car was intended for but it looks like a power built S-classer. I took it out in an online room the other night and I absolutely hated the car. Just my opinion. The gifter was singing its praises about how he liked it, but I couldn't work with it. It was way overpowered and under gripped. Perhaps with TCS I would have been better off but it wasn't fast on Sunset Infield Short, a real power track. When I went back and rebuilt the car, retuned the car and re-ran the car, I was much more comfortable, faster and more consistant. My point is if there is only one best build, and its how you keep telling us to build them then I must be a bad driver.
When I build a car I consider a few things: -Is it a race car or a hotlapper? (it only has to pump out one fast lap, or several in a row) -What track type? (long, short, grip, speed, etc) -What class should I put it in? -Why am I building this car?
There are enough answers to those question to have 5-6 versions of one car model. That leads me to believe that there isn't one clear cut way to build that one car. Just my opinion.

Hope the race went well. I ran the car with some success last night and I think with some more laps under my belt I can better my times on Mugello. It did well on Silverstone and held its own on Maple Valley. Not the leaderboarder that everyone hoped but I really like the progress I've made with it.
