The Supra is back on the road

After several months of sitting in my garage and another month at the shop, my 1985 celica supra MKII is driveable again.

It still needs some things (I got it when it was on its last leg, but I changed that), but all in all, it's a pretty nice car.

So far, I've done these things to it.

1.Got every seal (except the rear main seal) replaced.

2.I've replaced the muffler with a Vibrant Power 1 muffler (it had a junky one on it, and the junky one fell off, lol)

3.I've replaced the dimmer switch. I can now use brights and my windsheild wipers now work correctly.

4.I cleaned the rims for about 2-3 hours. they're silver now instead of charcoal (spelling?)

5.I cleaned the car in general

it still needs some things (minor body work[rust], new trim, windsheild wiper arms[old ones work, but they need replaced], and a paint job)

    I'll post pics later.

Re: The Supra is back on the road

More news: I'm taking it to a body shop to get an estimate on bodywork. I'm getting the front driver's side fender fixed and repainted, along with the front bumper (it needs new paint and the front fiber glass is cracked, don't know how it happened, it was there when I bought the car) and I'm getting the spoiler fixed, it also has a small crack in the fiber glass. After that, I'm going to replace the driver's side foglight and turn signal (I have the foglight but I need to buy the turnsignal), I also need the passenger's side taillight replaced (it works fine, but the cover is cracked). After that is done, if all goes well, it's time for a new paint job. I'll take pics when I have time.

Just a note, the car is in a lot better shape then what it sounds, the problems listed are minor (except the fender)

Kind of funny, my friends at school (who don't know what the car is, they're to busy talking about Ford Power-Strokes and all what not to appreciate anything Japanese) think it sucks because it's Japanese. I've already been told that I should get a truck engine for it. Yeah, right. lol

Re: The Supra is back on the road

Sorry for the wait guys, I'm busy a lot, that's why this took so long. I'll take some engine shots when the freezing rain stops tomorrow, but until then, here it is. These are about a month old (the pics) so the fender (sigh) isn't dented. I don't feel like explaining.

    Pics.

more pics in a few days (maybe)

Re: The Supra is back on the road

Thanks guys. The celica is my older brother's '92 Celica GT convertable. It's a pretty nice car, but (like mine) needs a little bodywork (the rear driver's side panel is dented, someone hit him while it was in a parking lot. he never found out who). I'll have to get engine pics later. the car is under about 1/4 or 1/2 (in some places) of ice right now. It drivers pretty smooth right now, but my dad and I are going to have the shocks and struts replaced when we can. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to a 6 or possible even a 7M-GE
engine in a few years (if I get the 7, can you say turbo?)

    peace.

oooh, i've always thought those mkii's were damn sexy.  don't keep us in the dark and update us with progress.  she'll respond to you better that your blood, sweat and tears have gone into her.  you won't regret it.

Re: The Supra is back on the road

Thanks for the coments everyone! This week (hopefully) we can get an estimate on the bodywork.
I'm going to rebuild the engine when I have the time and the money. The car runs great, but all the miles on it have weakened quite abit I'm sure. It is supposed to ahve around 160bhp but with all the miles on
it, I'm guessing it has weakened to baout 140bhp (it dropped 20 for those who misread that).
I'll take some engine pics, and hopefully I'll get a video of it on the web soon, it all depends on if it starts getting sunny and warm out.

Re: The Supra is back on the road

    Holy thread resurrection Batman!!!!

All joking aside, It's time for a few updates.

Regardless of what my sig says (need to change it), I'm not getting body work done right now (sucks).
    I do have updates though!
    1.New shocks and struts
    2.Rear main seal replaced
3.New clutch (original went out at 233,000. No, you're not seeing things and 233,000 isn't a typo)
    4. Talked to a body man, he says the car isn't in bad shape at all, so price should be fine.
5.New tires (Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts)

I figure I'll drive this one until the engine dies (300,000K is my estimate), and by a 6, or 7M-Ge [(heard bad things can happen with turbos in these cars. could be just their bad luck though {or they installed it wrong}) (though I suppose if I got a 7M-GTe, there wouldn't be any compatability issues. a 3.0 should fit just fine in that thing)

One more note, I might be needing a new fuel pump. This one (original) is getting weak.
