DJSlackerjr:Last night while working on my Mazda Roadster I went in to get a coke. When I returned to my work there was a note on my workbench. It read:
Surprise for you. Get to the track at 7am.
Signed BravoXXX
There was a plane ticket to Atlanta, Ga and a hotel reservation at The Inn at Chateau Elan, just 5 miles from track, included.
So after packing my bags, I headed to the airport to board the Delta Air 4877 @ 4:15pm. Puts me in Alt about 6pm then quick 3 hr drive (no one does the speed limit in GA) to my hotel.
Woke up in the morning and went down to breakfast and ran into Joey Greene, he's the VP at the track. We got to talking about what Bravo was up to but he didn't let on. We had out eggs, grits and coffee and were on our way to the track. Joe wasn't giving any details of the latest project so I asked him about the SCCA American Road Race of Champions race a few weeks back. He told me about Mark Eaton just beating out Matt Inge for the win in the Group 1 FE Div.
Finally we had arrived at the track and on the walked over to the paddock I saw a group of people surrounding a car. As I approached the car I saw the Jaguar XJ220 in all it's glory. Joe told me it get in and start it up. Everyone was waiting but as I looked for Bravo he still wasn't there. So I suited up and got in. I have to tell you one of my finest moments was starting that engine and listening to it purr. You could just feel the car wanting to jump onto the track, so why fight it. As I let the tires warm up I was a bit interested to open it up on the back stretch there and just before hitting 175mph I had to lay into the brakes for turn 10. This car just stormed over the track. On just my 4th lap I had a 1:19.266 and that was knowing I didn't take turn 1 fast enough and had a small penalty as well. After a few more laps I pulled into the pit and saw Bravo standing there. As I got out of the car he asked me my thoughts. The Car is brilliant, handles well, the speed is there, and the paint job is prefect. I just needed a bigger track. He told me the I would get my shot tomorrow, He plans to ship it to Germany for me to run on Nürburgring Nordschleife. He said there is no track like it for this car. I laughed as he handed me another plane ticket. Guess its off to Germany.
