There are still a lot of people who still play Forza Motorsport 1. I still have many friends who fire it up every now and again. If you do purchase it today, rest assured there are plenty people alive and well. There are lots of tunes and paint jobs there that can be handed out freely as most of the Original Artists have moved on. There is no lock-the-paint-option available. The Racers, for the most part, have moved to FM2 or simply moved on, leaving behind some very good, eccentric, and funny tunes jobs.
You gotta see some of the fantastic designs, only 100 layers per side and only 1, count it 1, gradient available. That gradient was manipulated so very well that the programmers of FM2 introduced an entire set of gradients and made every shape transluscent ready. The Established Artists of FM2 simply cannot fully appreciate just how many people of FM1 got involved in creating the FM2 paint booth.
I did see a video of FM1 that definitely stepped out of the borders originally set by the designers and do not know how it will affect the gaming aspect today, just be warned.
That's the game that got all of it started, good and bad, and will remain an Xbox Classic.
