    Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

The Saleen is an awesome car, especially the way it brakes, but it seems to have a problem with severe oversteer at very high speeds.

When you reach upwards of 160mph with this car even a small kink will cause the car to oversteer dangerously. I can't figure out how to tune it not to do that.

Anyone else having any better luck with it?

Like at Rio de Janeiro?  Yeah that happens... I let off the throttle to solve the kink oversteer problem.  I haven't found a setup fix for that yet.

You may want to try this alignment arrangement...

    -.7; -.6; .1; -.3; 5.3 (maybe 5.4)

I Mastered the saleen and it will plant the rear end at 160+ at around 175 it starts to get squirly again. put some understeer in her and put the tire pressure at 28 psi. it takes awhile to get use to the understeer but once mastered it halls. i should know. i'm number one in s class

Re: Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

Congrats Dark Storm 69 - Yep you've got some great times. Unfortunately I just checked the website and it shows RoXoR is #1 overall in S Class hotlap. I guess they managed to fix the updating of times but not your overall positions in the class.

I'm sure when I get on tonight on XBL I'll see that you knocked RoXoR of his perch. I still don't think I can speak as my S times will never amount to anything better than around 250 I think ( when I get round to doing them ).

Now HOW did you get that S7 neutral enough in the suspension, feel like posting a set up for suspension or should I just go and download one of your's to compare it to mine ?   Big Smile [:D]

ya im having the same problem at sunset infield, the last corner is me.  im going to try the tire pressure and the alignment and everything.  you just said that you were going to download a set up from the leaderboard, how do you do that?

Re: Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

I see there is no S7 setup besides the racer...here is one that will keep you very stable, tracks used for a test bed?

Maplevalley for the long sweepers, Atlanta for the quick turns, Nurburgring for High Speed and overall testing, test Oval for gearing (damn good if you ask me for under 600hp)

this is a very basic overall setup, and little tweaking is needed if any to be at home on any track.

One of the biggest complaints was the squirlyness of the s7 while at 150+ speeds, this was my target, to make it comfortably stable at high speed without sacrificing what makes the s7 so great, its turning power!

The gears might seem long but real test specs are 0-60 in 3.8secs and 0-100 in under 6secs , also allows for better gearing past 100mph, which is where you spend most of the time in the saleen especially in the turns blowing anything away short of P1 cars!

    Tires:
    Front: 38psi
    Rear: 27psi

Gearing: all speeds are at rev limit not redline
    FD: 3:45
    1st: 1.70 (96mph)
    2nd: 1.31 (126mph)
    3rd: 1.05 (158mph)
    4th: 0.88 (188mph)
    5th: 0.75 (195mph+)
    6th: 0.66 (200mph+)

Alignment: very critical for the S7 and took me many laps to get the very best imo
    Camber:
    Front: -0.4
Rear: 0.4 (yes positive, at speeds above 150mph S7 hits -2.0 in rear if not, part of instability)

Toe: (yes very high, also part of instability at high speed, 1.2 has also been used but i liked the feel of 1.0 at 185+)
    Front: -1.0
    Rear: -0.3

    Caster:
    Front: 6.0

Anti-Roll: probably the S7's most trickiest settings besides springs
    Front: 18.0
    Rear: 3.7

    Springs: very tricky indeed
    Springs:
Front: 643.0 (needed for high speed stiffness)
Rear: 469 (needed much lower for corner stickyness, high speed less impact on rear compression in the S7)

Ride Height: yes these are "high" but again S7 is so good at turning no further improvement needed if anything i needed it to "roll"
    Front: 2.9
    Rear: 2.9

    Damping:
    Bump:
    Front: 8.0
    Rear: 5.1

    Rebound:
    Front: 14.1
    Rear: 11.6

Braking: yes i messed with this, found this setting to be much friendlier allowing highspeed late brake turn ins, which is great for over taking etc...
    Balance: 48%
    Pressure: 90%

Differential: This was tweaked, but in the end didnt make difference for highspeed turns just the low ones, with my gearing it does very great!
    Accel: 35%
    Decel: 25%

    Testing info:
    MapleValley:
About 20-30 laps were run around this very fun course, mainly used for off camber turns, and long sweepers, also to test how my long gears worked on a normal track, turned out great. 1:19's were average laps for testing, and 1:24 was achieved with full blown red tires at lap 15

    Atlanta:
Used mainly for its double chicanes, one low speed one high, didnt use laguna because for me thats more driver skill than car settings, and to slow of speed for what i wanted, did run it once and the settings was great so yea.

    Nurburgring:
The track that says it all. I ran a good 25laps if not more here, and not one good clean one, raw times were all under 8mins, but penalties left me at the 8+mark. Why so many penalties, because on each lap on each turn i pushed this car hard, to the point of hitting many walls. But in the end led to invaluable test data, like what happens when the S7 takes the turn at a off angel but at optimum speed on normal line? in my setting a dab on the brake and full throttle is all that is needed, no worries . This was also my final place to test 190+ turning speeds....and with a little practice, because not all squirly was removed, you will find it very stable. On some tight turns that 130 was the max in say a enzo or the like, i was hitting 160+ in the saleen. My current time on leaders board is with 20secs of penalty and two 360spins, so plz dont download that setup, it was midway testing setup, the one above is the final result. I also hit 190+ about 5-6 times on the track, almost never going below 90 except for u-turns, even then hit no slower than 75mph

    Test Oval:
Here is my gearing madness, with this gearing you can litterally floor it at start and still get off 6sec 0-100 runs. Sure 0-60 is a mere 3.5secs but after that it just pulls. Just pull the trigger and go . Once used to it, i have clicked off a 5.5sec 0-100, so even with long gears it hauls...

    Numbers in game:
Are actually probably lower than stock, but in the end its faster and stable, forza uses 0-60 as its ultimate test number not 0-100, nor real world number hittings in races, pay no attention to these

Enjoy my settings, and countless lap runs, this is my tribute to my current favorite supercar.

EliteW, that's a nice, thorough tuning post.  I look forward to messing around with your settings.

I especially like the ride height settings and remarks.  Your gearing is unusual but hey, I'll give it a shot.

Indifferent [:|] Re: Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

    Hi Elite,

firstly I'd like to commend you on a great informative post. I tried the exact settings for the Saleen S7 (road) you posted, which is my favourite car in the game also cause of its looks, cornering, braking, speed and VERY hard to setup. The car for me was still letting go on most of Maple Valley long. I tried the camber -0.4/0.4 and that definately worked for that car and others I have with my existing settings. Maybe our driving styles differ but I hate the cars sliding at all, for me they have to be like their on rails. I drive with STM off and TCS, ABS on. If you want my settings just say the word. I was getting 1:17's but consistent 1:18's on Maple Valley long, with the Saleen S7 (road). Thanks again....

Re: Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

So basically what you're saying is that the -0.4/+0.4 camber settings helped maintain stabliity on the S7, even when put on your own setup?  I'll have to try it out as Elite's setup seems to be a bit too tight for my liking; I got it off the Forza Central board and took it out for a few laps.  Like the stability, but the other settings just put too much understeer in it than I would need to set fast times.

Re: Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

This sounds stupid, but try it, it works.

Leave the car stock but reduce your front tire pressure to the minimum (I think 15 psi). Try it out. It makes the car way less twitchy but it does have some understeer.

I just left mine at 15 psi, but you could raise it up to regain some of the awesome cornering abilities of the Saleen S7. I'm not a top ranked racer, but this will allow you to DESTROY the computer and probably help alot on XBL too.

Re: Saleen S7 tuning tips anyone?

Is this for an S-class S7, or did you go all out U999? I have it setup for S atm, but have all parts for U. I'm gonna try this setup (thanks btw... was looking for one, as the Feuerdog calc actually failed me on this car.). But if ya get a chance, lemme know if it's for S or U. BTW, Anyone looking for some basic really graphic (as in bold designs, not naughty), check out my WIPs:
