I've been toying with the Toy. I'm a small block kinda guy. Whatever makes the best power, at the lightest weight. So I'm on the stock 2 liter.
Just how close is it to the M Inc. I'm two tenths off the time I posted for second or third. Toy 1:34.811 vs. Boss 1:34.615
The PI system is pretty good at evening up tuned cars. I'm still on a grip only tune with DOT's. I don't know what it is with the Toyo DOTs, but I like them better than the Avon slicks.

Hmm this looks interesting. I saw the words b class and hoplee an decided to drop in. I've been a little confused through this this thread though. I saw Ferrari Dino in the topic name and i'm seeing discussion of my favorite Nordscleife (b class) car, the 2000GT. so what is going on here? are we trying to find the best older car on every track, or just looking for one that does well at every track?

The goal is to build the Dino into a classic car capable of running with any room on any track. In order to accomplish this goal, I'm currently using three tracks for evaluation. If the Dino can break 1 minute on each of these tracks, it's good enough to run with the top dawgs in most rooms.
For comparisons sake, I have included reference times for other 'foreign' classics as targets for the Dino to reach. For a bit of fun, I am inviting others to post times for these tracks with their own b class 'foreign' classics.
The reason I'm excited about the Dino is that it has such a great first step. Getting to 60mph in less than 4 seconds is no small feat for a RWD car in B Class, let alone one this old. The only car that I've tested that may be able to come close is the AWD Fairlady. I don't drive AWD that much so I'm leaving that one alone for now.
Tonight I took the Dino out with a new tuning. I used the Toyo DOT tires and then added power everywhere but the turbo and cams. The result on Mugello Short was a laptime of 1:01.226, a new best time. It's not as fast as the 2000GT yet, but it's getting closer. The 0-60 time was 3.6 and the 0-100 time was 10.9. Moving from Avon Slicks to Toyo DOTs hasn't hurt acceleration much at all. Grip benchmarks suffered by approx .5g at each speed.
Next I will take power off of the fuel system and ignition and add a race turbo. Hopefullly this will improve acceleration above 100mph as it moves the power band higher.
Unfortunately, the increased power and decreased grip has exposed weaknesses in the setup. I've gone back to the feuerdog settings and beyond that, significantly stiffened the front springs and ARBs (+30-50%). I'm also going to try a wing on this latest version to help keep the rear in line at 80-110 mph. The alignment settings are consistent with my "Tail Happy Recipe" posted in another thread and posted again here for reference.
Camber -.9/-1.1 Toe +.1/-.2 Caster 5.6
I've also found that the telemetry looks better if you run the tire pressure one psi higher in the front. Currently, I'm running with 31/30 F/R.
Anyone is welcome to post a target time but I would like to make a request or two:
Please run your classic on one of the QuickRank tracks (Mugello Short, Road ATL Short, Tsukuba). It would also be interesting to post your 'QuickRank' for your favorite car. My personal target is less than 180 seconds for the three lap times combined. I can do it in an AWD car, but have not yet managed it in a RWD Classic.
Of course, if you'd like to run the Dino, more power to you! My goal remains to explore the potential of this little Italian Rocket, and to then go hunting those pesky Leaderboard Clones!

Going to a race turbo and the Toyo DOTs worked like a charm. After fifteen minutes I posted...

I haven't changed the gears to see if I can get more out of it since
adding all the power I got from downgrading the tires. It's already
getting to 60mph in 3.6 and 100mph in 11.1seconds. I can get to 100 in
10.9 if I lose the wing, but I think I can get there with gearing if I
play with it a little. At this point, the wing looks like it might be a
keeper.
There's at least another 4 tenths of a second left in it from looking
at the splits. I think with a little tuning I could probably find
another 2 or 3 tenths and break a minute. Once that happens, it should
be no problem to break a minute at Road Atlanta. Add that all together
and we have a RWD classic with a QuickRank of less than 180seconds.

I've been plugging away at tuning these old cars for some time now but there's only so much I can do with hotlapping and benchmarks. I would like to invite the willing and the able to participate in some actual racing in the interest of pushing these cars to their limits.
Those who race often with me already know that my preferred format is rear-wheel drive B Class. I will be putting together a list of Gamertags for people who want to race these classics against each other online. Forgot to mention that I may restrict either tires or horsepower if things get too obnoxious. 'Missile Cars" are a glitch IMO. The likely horsepower limit would be 500-600 max. The glitch seems to happen above those numbers.

Well the good thing about the B class is the normal fare of GM muscle can't put in the Z06 crate without going to A.

I've found that you can run a pretty high amount of camber on Mugello without any ill effects because you spend so much time trying to hold on to speed through the corners.
The number one thing to pay attention to on Mugello is the changing angles of the pavement. You can't see the crown in the road on turn 5, but you sure as hell feel it if you miss your line by a foot or two. The outside of the crown will throw you towards the curb and force you to correct after the apex, killilng your exit speed.
The other thing to watch out for is that EVIL elevation change in the middle of the last corner. My faster cars are reaching 106-110mph before the braking point. My latest strategy is to start outside and come across the 'bump' at an angle. You'll see the rear end of the car bob up and down, this is your signal that you can stand on the gas as the rear end settles in. You can accelerate before the bump and after the bump, but DO NOT hit the gas as you go over it. If you're on the gas as you go over the bump, you're headed for disaster.

My main problem is the first turn. I keep pushing too hard in and washing out . Now that I think about it, you're running about 50-75 HP more than I usually do. I favor the grippier cars when tuning. The main straight speed is probably where I'm losing the time to you.
Mugello is one of the courses I would like to walk. When you walk a course you can see all the undulations and little nuances you would not see driving at speed. You can plan a strategy on how best to take them. Exit of the esses at R Atl is another. I would have to take a golf cart for Nurburg. lol

My 2000GT ran 1:00.2xx with 238hp. I doubt that I'm gaining any time on you in the straights unless you have a truly anemic car.
The most common mistake I make is trying to save too much time in the first corner. If you really fly through turn one, you're going to be on the wrong side of the track for turn two. The most important thing about turns one and two is to remain patient and exit properly in order to set up your line through the next turn. If you're precise and smooth, you can find a line and start accelerating before turn three.
The combination turns (3&4, 5&6) look the same but the line through them is much different due to the differences in pavement grading and curbage.
I hope we can race against each other sometime drift, your times are usually faster than me. I can't imagine where I'm gaining time on you at MugShort.

I'm looking into getting a broadband connection, but its going to be at laest a couple months away. I have got to take care of a few little things I have had to neglect on my house first. I just can't justify getting another payment when I have real needs that have to be taken care of.
Trust me, when I get it its going to be like OS. Everyone will know and its definitly going to be on that first night.

i got a few classics tuned by Raybrig/HellBr1ng3r, which i wanted to help me learn about tuning

anyway the 1961 e-type B700 is pretty close

(no drafting, scores on Fm2 scoreboard)
ive not done road atlanta short, but i reckon i should be able to get around the 60secs - and see if i can bring down the others - will try tonight :)
anyways, may not be the fastest, but its probably got the longest nose (awesome in car view :))
ive also got a C550 Dino and that is a little rocket, and handles very nicely... will look to see if i can push it to a B700

Just went back and ran the 2000GT. Pretty surprising.
59.989 Mug 58.859 Atl 58.569 Tsu For a grand total of 177.417
I think that the GT has a bit of natural rear steer in it. It just plants the power good and turns, but be wary once they break loose its hard to get them to hook back up. And that was with 262 HP.
I went back to compare the final list of the QR challenge. This would have be in 2nd place. Faster than any of them on Tsukuba by .3

tried a few tuning ideas, and changing parts
but couldnt really find a way... a few combos yield the same outcome - just seems to be a trade off between grip vs power
think i need to remove some of the handling, and give it some more power :)

My work points to the 2000GT as the fastest of the classics, with a few others close behind it. I still hold out hope for the Dino, but I'm going to need fresh ideas or new inspiration to make into something as easy to drive quickly. Right now I can make it easy to drive, but it's just not as quick at the top end as the Toyota.
I swear this game worships Asian cars! ;)
