    Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

The rumble effects on the Microsoft wireless speed wheel (the U shaped one) seems to be non existant when playing Forza 4. When I use the wheel, I set all the assists except the transmission(manual). So, when I start the round, there is no rumble effects. Only when I hit a wall does the controller vibrate. I found out that restarting the wheel(holding guide button and turning off controller and turning it back on) gives the vibration function back, but all the button mappings get reset. After I restart it, I no longer have the ability to shift gears. The D pad only shows telemetry.

Can someone that owns a Microsoft Wireless speed wheel confirm whether this happens to you?

Add one more to the list experiencing the exact same behavior.  No rumble at all in Forza 4, and turning the controller off (to switch to my regular controller for things that need RB/LB) and back on resets the in-game control set.

Re: Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

I too have had this issue on multiple occasions.  What seems to actually be the problem is that the game is starting to recognize the Wireless Speed Wheel as the actual full Microsoft Race wheel (you can tell when this happens by going to the controls menu to see a diagram of the original Race Wheel).  Which is why the d-pad starts to show the Telemetry instead of allowing you to shift, because that is the mapping on the full Race wheel (and the shifting is mapped to the bumpers, which the Speed Wheel does not have).

Really really hope that this issue gets fixed as I am thoroughly enjoying the Speed Wheel, but playing in Automatic transmission so I avoid this issue is not as fun.

Same deal with the rumble.   Also really annoying how you NEED the RB/LB buttons to do basic stuff in the menus.  Here's hoping T10 gets us a workaround fairly quickly.

Re: Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

The reason why you cannot change gears when you turn it off and on, and that telemetry is the dpad instead is because when you turn off the wheel off and on it becomes the Fanatec CSR wheel.

I tested it and what happens is when you start the game with the wheel, if you go to the controller option menu, you will see a picture of the speed wheel. But if you turn it off and on the controller is replaced with the CSR fanatec wheel with all it's button mappings and also the steering seems to be different from if it was on the speed wheel settings. If you want from this screen you can change steering type to 5 where X and B are the gear up/down button.

If you want it to recognize the speed wheel as a speed wheel you need to log out of the game and start it up again with the speed wheel. This is a PAIN as when I tune I gotta use my controller since the speed wheel doesn't have LB/RB buttons. Which means that I gotta turn my speed wheel off, turn on controller then turn my speed wheel back on. Which means now it gets recognized as a Fanatec CSR wheel rather than the speed wheel.

I posted this in another forum why this ruins tuning for me:

I also find that when this happens. the steering is slightly different. So I would be tuning then test, tuning then test all on the 'CSR fanatec wheel' calibration. So next time I exit the game and log back in, the controller is back on the wireless speed wheel and it feels slightly off. It could be placebo and they are the same but it doesn't feel like it.

Re: Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

I sent an email to microsoft regarding the problem.

    Here is what they said.

"As of this writing, we are unable to validate the existence of the said issue with the wireless speed wheel in Forza 4.You may contact the Xbox Support Specialists for further assistance on this matter. They can be reached at (800)-4MY-XBOX or (800)-469-9269 between 9:00AM-3:00AM. Direct dial: (425) 635-7180, EST."

I am going to call them, tell them that many people are experiencing this problem.

The vibration in this game is super weak and subtle, so I believe that is the problem we dont feel it most of the time.

I have same experience.. wheel is few degrees off when using it as Speed Wheel... when turning it off-on then wheel is centered like it should be and rumble effects work.

+1 to this post.  This is the exact same problem I am having. While I am somewhat relieved that I am not the only one, will Microsoft or Turn 10 step up and address/patch the problem? I'll be calling into Microsoft support just so they have it on record there is something wrong with their speed wheel.

Re: Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

Yeah I'm getting the same problem. No vibration unless I hit a wall. When I restart the controller the mapping is wrong. I looked at the controller options and noticed it puts it in a steering wheel configuration not the speed wheel setup.

As much as i love forza 4, i wish they'd thought of this before everything was released! i'm hating the problems with the wheel and the menu, secondly i miss having manual gears! gonna stick with the old wheel for now untill somethings done! i'm so disappointed in Microsoft for not dealing with this as its their new product and they dont seem to care when you call them to discuss the matter. Maybe a refund is in order unless they fix this fast!

Please be patient, Turn T10 are becoming aware of the issues. The game has been available for less than a week to the public, and patches can often take longer than that to approve from what I've seen, yet despite that we've already had one patch this week. This issue will be rectified in due course, but it can't be bug tested approved, and released at the click of anyone's fingers.

Re: Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

count me in. same problem with the rumble here.

remapping my speed wheel as a real wheel doesn't bother me too much,  but the need of turning it off and on is a little bit a annoying after spending that much money on the bundle pack.

another disappointment is autovista mode. u simply cannot get in the car without a normal contoller ( L-analog-stick).... i don't expect older games to be fully functional with this new type of accessory. but the game that it debuts with?!!.... why didn't simply map az existing button for actions like "getting in"? :D

however, i just LOVE the game and the wireless speed wheel as well. :D

    hope we'll have a fix soon. :)

Re: Microsoft wireless speed wheel bug?

Same problem here with the rumble function. I think most situations that cause rumbling are working but the effect is very very soft:

I felt  something while being off the track in the dirt (very slight rumbling), sometimes when shifting down (also very soft) and if crashing and bumping into other cars. Thats by far the strongest rumble effect.

Sadly all the working effect are also the useless ones for gameplay. There is absolutely no response from the tires and that makes me loose all feeling for the cars :( Worst of all I start to think that it is meant to be this way. Responses from the tires seem to be coming from the lights on the controller. If I loose grip or brake to hard they are flashing or are fully lit. Vice versa woul be a lot better :(

I've also tried Outrun Arcade. Steering works fine but again almost no rumble, only in certain situations but even most crashs are without any effect.
