I'll Take "Things That Will Not Be In FM3" For $100, Alex...

Answer: Weather, day/night cycles, rally events... let me know if I forgot anything.

It's very simple: In marketing, you never hold back when talking about the features your product offers. Sometimes you only have one shot (*cough* E3 *cough*) to get this info out to potential customers. What you hold back is the details.

Here are some examples of features vs details...

Feature: 400 cars.  Detail: Nissan GT-R.

Feature: Cockpit view.  Detail: Removable steering wheel.

Feature: Painter leaderboards.  Detail: Um... how it works, exactly.

Sometimes, something that was once considered a detail (e.g., the aforementioned cockpit view) can be so appealing that it becomes a feature. But once something is a feature, it's always a feature - it can never go back to being a detail. Weather, night racing and rally events have been features in console racers for some time now. If any of these things are in a racing game, believe me you'll know about it right off the bat.

Does anyone here honestly believe that a game developer would intentionally decline to inform gamers about the inclusion of features they universally desire on the biggest stage of the year for the video game industry? What possible benefit - economic or otherwise - could be obtained by doing this? It would be marketing suicide.

So, write this down: There will be no weather in FM3. There will be no day/night cycles in FM3. There will be no rally events in FM3.

Learn it. Love it. Live it.

What you said is completely true but it will also upset alot of people that so desperately want to believe such functions will be in the game. That they will take any pics/info and twist it into how such a feature will infant be in the game.

Yes, sometimes the truth is a hard pill to swallow. Nonetheless, it needs to be said. And we will all be better for it in the end.  Smile

Anyone remember Halo 3 at E3? As far as i remember it was purely single player footage and a trailer, only small leaks of single player were leaked, until the beta. That was marketed by Microsoft. Huh?

I dunno though, what you say does sound legible.

the truth is too, that we will never know what is in the game till it comes out. If turn 10 chooses not to reveal some details they wont, they are the developers after all. These things could be in the game, no one knows but turn 10. I'm still holding out hope

Not quite the same though, is it? Did you ever see the sales figures for Halo 2? Since then, the only marketing concern surrounding the release of a Halo game has been making sure people know the release date and that there are enough copies available.  Wink

Halo 2 E3 was the same, that did need catch peoples attention. Saying that, what they showed gave me chills like no other game. How sad, LOL.

I don't disagree with you, just trying be a little more open minded. I wouldn't be that disappointed if those features didn't make it to FM3.

The items I listed are not "some details." They are features. More precisely, they are total game changers.

Please give me a logical explanation as to why MS/Turn 10 is currently keeping such appealing features a secret from potential customers. What is the specific benefit from waiting?

No weather, night racing, or rally in the game.

That said, any car is up for grabs. Just because we haven't announced/shown it doesn't mean it won't make it into the game. We're just trickling out info.

Painter/tuner/drag/drift scoreboards. Yes, it's all in the details. Which we haven't revealed yet.
