FAQ for Painting, click here before asking for help.

    Can you import pictures?

No.  As photorealistic as these images have gotten, there is no way to import pictures from a PC whether it be Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Free BSD, Oracle, Unix, or any other obscure operating system you may have.  There are rumors of “hacked systems” which may or may not be true, but give all designers found in our forums the benefit of the doubt.

How do I copy the left/right side?

When you have completed one side of the vehicle, go to the opposite side and press A.  The second button from the bottom is “Insert all from Left/Right”

How do I copy a design from one car to another?

To copy a design from your vehicle to another of the same make and model go to the “Save Design” option in the “Paint Car” menu.  The second option is “Save to Design Catalog.”  To apply your design, go to the “Design Catalog” option in the “Paint Car” menu and you can see any designs saved to the catalog and select the appropriate design.

How do I get a picture on more than one car/on another side of the vehicle?

To apply a picture from one car to another (or one side of a design), click and hold down the left stick of the controller and press A to highlight the desired layers.  Once this is done select the highlighted layers by pressing A, and the third option from the top is “Create New Vinyl Group”  Select this and you can name and save your image.  Now, go to the desired side of the vehicle (or go get your other car and return to the Livery Editor) and press A.  The third option from the top is “Load a Vinyl Group” where you should see any groups you have saved.

How do you make these images from shapes?

For detailed instructions please see ONI 23’s picture tutorial in this forum.
Or Neuborn's step-by-step car from concept art to a finished face in this forum.

    How do you paint rims?

In order to paint rims, you must have purchased custom rims.  Once this is done you will see a "Paint Rims" option in the paint menu.

skatezilla is supposed to be providing one.  I wrote this at his request and he'll either sticky this one or he'll post another one with a sticky.

Re: FAQ for Painting, click here before asking for help.

On the "import pictures" point, I think what really screwed everybody up was the E3 "Live Anywhere" demo where they showed a demo of editing your car on a PC rather than the 360.  That was just a demo of Live Anywhere, to show the kinds of things that might be possible.  It was not a promised feature of the game, and as such it is not a feature of the game.

    Also, some edits:

    • You should say "click and hold the left thumbstick" rather than "press down", because the latter implies the "down" direction and not the thumbstick button.
    • Please make a hyperlink for Oni's tutorial thread.

I don't have the HTML skills for the link, but I'll edit the "click and hold down" bit.

See my second post.  Not only are you mentioned, I just made my first attempt at shading and shadowing an Oni head (don't be too flattered, I was doing a traditional Japanese theme to begin with). You have to have made the most helpful post I've seen.  Bump.

You don't need HTML skills.  Just select the link, copy it to the clipboard, and while the text is still selected click the "Create Link" button in the edit control's toolbar (looks like a little green circle on top of a link of chain).  Then paste in the target of the link, which is what you copied earlier (http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/...)

It was a Tech Demo Mockup and was never intended to be like that AFAIK. there were disclaimers at E3, the problem is people that reposted the Pics from the E3 Coverage didnt post the "Tech Demo Mockup" Disclaimer with them.

No matter what it was, I really wonder why you can't make a livery designer on the computer, where we could actualy import pictures and stuff...

I haven't tried the game yet, but it all seems very bulky and complicated... I guess we'll see.
