Hi,

So i've been getting back into Forza 2 for the last few weeks (can't have its low gamerpoints mocking me anymore ;) ). Its be satisfying to see some real improvements in my lap times and so I thought of going back over the time trials to see just how much i'd improved..

Everything was going fine until the Maple Valley Raceway Time Trial, where i found the Top Secret Supra at default tune almost undrivable and most definately not competitive. Is this normal? I'm not very up on the technical side of cars and racing but it felt to me like it had understeer, oversteer and that someone had fogotten to add any brakes! I did some tweaking based on my minimal knowledge and at least now I can beat the target time by a good 10 seconds, but its real heart in your mouth racing as it can still lose control easily.

I do wonder about the default set up though, especially as the ride height is maxed out, that just doesn't seem right? Indeed i've reduced it down to 4.8 inches with apparently no ill-effect? If that is so badly set up, what else on this car is?

I then tried downloading a setup from one of the top five racers, but when i applied it, it had the same values as the default, something that i noticed a few days ago when i downloaded a friends settings to test a different car. This leads me to beleive that there is something wrong with installing downloaded tunes. Could this be affected perhaps by different game updates/versions? Perhaps these downloaded tunes are using an old version of the game and are no longer compatible?

Finally then, although i've gotten my time to a respectable 1:35:047  (rank 6345) i'd love to learn what tuning can make this car more drivable. I can see from the top scores that another 10 seconds can be shaved off, although i doubt i can achieve that, it would be fun to give it a go with a decent tun, one where the car feels safe to actually drive.

When checking my overall time trial on the scoreboard (before i started re-doing them) its said  6h 00:30! that was quite a shock considering the no.1 was only 39 minutes or something, I mean i know i was slow when i first did them, but not 5.5 hours ;). Checking through i noticed 6 tracks I had local but not online times for, so I guessed that the 6 hours came from those not been registered. However after redoing them my time only decreased to 3h 07:39? I still have about the last 5 tracks to redo, so even though i have online scores perhaps they arn't being counted for some reason, but i found this whole situation puzzling. Can anyone explain why my time is measured in hours, when it clealy hasn't taken anywhere near that long.

Are the Time Trail scoreboards not popular? I've gotten into the top 5-6k on over 6 of them, without really trying to hard, but i know i'm really not that good.

3hrs 7 minutes as a total suggest you have 5 tracks not run. As there are 5 DLC tracks (4@Motegi, 1@Road America) I'd guess you've not downloaded these and that's where the extra time comes from.

Don't ask me for advice on that Supra though. I hate that car with a passion! even if I was fortunate to get a half-decent time in it. My best advice with that is to be glad you have a qualifying time and go and run a car which doesn't have such a big laggy turbo - you'll find it so much more controllable.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I do not believe the DLC tracks affect your scoreboard times unless you have downloaded them. If you have downloaded them then the 30 minutes per track will be added to your total time until you run them, but if you don't download them your time is not affected. Hope that makes sense to you, and as I said, i'm almost certain that is how it works. So yeah, look through all the tracks in all of the classes to find the tracks you haven't ran yet, look to make sure you have a time posted online as local doesn't matter. Like if you set a time while not connected to Live (whether you just didn't connect or whether your service was out or whatever may have been the case) then obviously a time doesn't get uploaded and that is why you only see a local time.

Not sure about the dlc, i've not downloaded them and it would suck if you needed them to get a competitive time trial score. Do the downloaded tracks add to the time trial mode of the game?

I've played through all but 3 of the original time trials over the last two days and i'm still stuck at 3h so something isn't right somewhere. All of them now have online scores as far as I can tell, so its a bit frustrating.

As to the supra yeah it is pretty evil, just wondered if anyone had come up with a decent tuning as it looked to me as though the default is slightly screwed up in the first place.

DLC tracks add 30 minutes per track if you have not run them even if you do not own them.  Remember those that own those tracks have their lap times added to their total.  So for example on Road America I have 1:44.XXX added to my rollup that would not be there if I decided to not buy the packs.  That would shave about 5 minutes off my rollup.  Nobody would ever buy the DLC if there wasn't a penalty for not running even if you didn't own the packs.

As far as the top secret supra I never did find the guy who picked that when I was visiting Turn 10.  All that training with a knife wasted :(

Thanks for the confirmation, although just as it might be unfair not to include these as time trails for those who bought the content, its also unfair to penalize those who have not bought it. Especially on the game time trails as I don't see why they can't just be fixed to the release tracks and let the hotlapping account for downloaded track. Just feels a bit 'calculated' to 'encourage' purchasing the dlc.

Of course the obvious, common snese solution would have to adddress this in the original game code and provide different scoreboards for those with just the game and the dlc.

So the Supra is simply a loss cause then, shame

While I will agree that the car is never going to be a joy to drive, there are those who have managed to tune and drive it to some excellent times, including Mr Solo of course. It is more of a challenge than the other cars in the time trials but, doesn't that make it more rewarding when you've done well with it?

I drove the car with the default settings. I posted a 1:27.192 which is #5 without assists. Its a funny replay to watch because I hit full throttle like twice around the entire track.

I found the same thing with that Supra.  It's massively overpowered with lower than averge handling charactiristics which makes for an extremely frustrating experience. 

I found that I just had to baby my way around the track while barely touching the throttle and braking very early to account for the apparent lack of grip.  I managed to get around the track on my third try and still posted a lap time that was nearly 4 seconds faster than the target time.  It was an extremely unsatisfying lap bacause I felt like I was on ice.  But simply keeping the car on track and coasting around was all I needed to crush the target time. 

I noticed that i did all my time trials while off - line so im redoing and i ahve no cmplaints about supra and i drive without TCS STM AND ABS just don't floor it when coming out of a trun and if u want a quick tune jsut take springs dampers and other things and make front  1/4 and back 3/4 so front settings move left back setting move right thart should take out some oversteer play around  make shure gaps not too bigLOWER TIRE PRESSURE to 20s that ll make u burn less rubber

Well, NoiseCrime, you stated that you just started back racing with Forza2. So you shouldn't expect to be on the Top 1000 Leaderboard with only a few hours so far.

All the Time Trial races are Default settings except the R Class cars. That means that you cannot tune a car except change the tire pressure. You are allowed to download a tune if it is unlocked by the person that set the time, but the only thing that would change is if the tire pressure was adjusted.

Don't expect to get within 10 seconds of the top Forza racers in the world in an untuned high powered car. You need to learn how to use manual trans. so that the gears don't keep changing when your tires start spinning.

Your time is faster than mine and a few thousand other people so just keep working on your driving skills.
