Treewick:Thanks guys!
Regardig the shading on the hood vents. I realized that no matter
what angle of light Idecided to with it would look wrong from one angle
or another so I picked the side angle of a light source as I thought it
offered a more realistic effect given that in the replays that usually
the side of the rac you are looking at. The head on straight light
angle looked more like a flat shade and I wanted to give the impression
of depth as best as I could and I didnt feel as though that worked as
good as aa side light source.
To be honest mate vents and widebodys are always going to look wrong
from one angle or another so your damned if you do and damned if you
dont. I tend to do them so they look correct from the viewpoint of the
pannel they are on and to hell with the angles, make bonnets look good
when viewed from above, wings from the side etc. Many guys on here
spend hours making widebodies that look fantastic in static shots, but
given two or three laps of a track and the games dirt effects exposes
the myth and make it all look a bit naff (As I found out with my
Ferrari 360 front extractor vents!). Fair play to them, but to be
honest I try to stick with cars that need little body mods for that
very reason.
Treewick:Regarding the wing vents. I did those last
and was quite upset to see the amount of distortion you got when you
tried to apply the vents on the side pannels. I ended up loosing some
of the realism to avoid that problem by scaling back the width so the
vents were mostly contained on the hood portion. Then I reduced the
color darkness of the lines on the side pannels so that the distortion
doestn stand out as badly as it did with the color black. Im still not
happy with it but I think that given the problem its probably the best
its going to look so there isnt much I could do with it.
Yeah sadly thats the only way around it mate. Cars like the Porsche
911's are particularly bad for this along the front wings. The Aston is
sadly in this group too, and most of the images Ive seen of peoples
efforts are great barring this unwanted distortion. Its not the fault
of the painter, just the car model they have to work with. You either
grin and bare it, or do as you did and scale it back untill the effect
becomes lessened.
Treewick:The problem for me with the replicas is the
logos. Its not that I find them difficult I just find them to be
mindnumbingly boring. I have the upmost respect for the guys here who
faaithfuly replicate so many of them. The rest of the car - the color
selection, the shading, the mking of the vents and the body kits, I
really enjoyed. But I hate putting together words and logos... really
really dont like it. For that reason alone I think this may end up
being my only try at this side of things. Who knows though, when the
design bug hits it hits hard so maybe in the future I may try another.
Now that I can related to! Lol! Nothing is duller than trying to put
together a complex logo! Some guy on here just did the Relentless
energy drinks logo. The man needs a medal! Maybe you should collaborate
with him or someone like Duffman, who's text/logo's seem to be be a
world apart from what everyone else is doing. I'd love to see what the
outcome of such a crossover design would look like! Your dark gothic
artwork with Duff's killer logos. I'd buy one!
