Turn 10 Team Challenge for July 18th

Turn 10 Team Challenge: Rules and Regulations

    Description:

This is a team based challenge, where members of the community will get a chance to race head to head with the Dev’s here at Turn 10 studios.  We will be running these races every Friday (excluding every third Friday) at 4PM PST, just before we start our regularly scheduled game with dev event.

    Sign-Ups:

Every Monday we will be posting a thread just like this, where players can sign up in groups of 3.  Include a cool or funny name for your team, the gamertags of the player’s involved and a short description of why you think you can take us down.

We will be selecting who we challenge in a partially random, partially biased method based on your team name and challenge post (ie. Make us laugh and we might just accept your challenge).  We will announce what team’s challenge we have accepted on Wednesday’s, and will be updating the first post to reflect the final details.  If you sign up then you must be committed to running the race on Friday.

Also we encourage everyone to sign up together, regardless of your group affiliation; however we will accept challenges from teams that have already been established.

    Race Format and Rules:

This will be a 3 on 3 race format with a points system to determine the winner.  We have a clean racing policy, and will be saving the replays to check out any intentional contact! If any player on your team is caught intentionally disrupting the race in any way, your team will automatically be disqualified and given a loss.  Of course this applies to Team T10 as well. We will be running the race using the in-game Team Race option to make things easy.  Here is the point’s breakdown.

    1st Place – 8 Points
    2nd Place – 5 Points
    3rd Place – 3 Points
    4th Place – 2 Points
    5th Place – 1 Points
    6th Place – 0 Points

    Race Settings:

The settings for each week’s challenge will be posted on Wednesday.  We will be mixing up the settings each week, so you can expect some stock/spec races added in to the mix as well.

The results from each week’s challenge will be published in the Pitpass reports, as well as in these threads for all to see.

    Prizes For Beating “Team T10”

If by some stroke of luck you are able to beat Team T10, then you deserve a prize.  If your team is capable of achieving this mighty feat, each member will be eligible for 2 free gift cars of choice, along with 1 million credits.  It is also worth mentioning that you can request any of the Official Turn 10 unicorn cars for winning, so if you have yet to receive a Anniversary Unicorn then now is your chance…but the pride and prestige associated with beating the almighty Team T10 is enough reward already right?

We will be launching the next challenge next Friday July 18th, so go ahead and sign up now if you want to be considered.  Once again check back on Wednesday of next week for the final challenge details!

Re: Turn 10 Team Challenge for July 18th

Quote from Landin's Turn 10 Studios Blog:

"Message to the Old Fogie’s: Put down your canes and join us whipper snappers in this week’s team challenge. You have until Friday to accept, or else you will go down in history as the first team to run away from a team challenge (no exceptions made for nap time). We at Turn 10 don't like to take advantage of our elders, but you know...we will make an exception this week!"

We will gladly lay down our canes for this challenge, however, the only things the Old Fogies will run away from are the Turn 10 Champs, at Sunset, on Friday night...in our Porsche's and Ferrari's!! See you all then!!

    O.M.C.R. accepts challenge!!

Re: Turn 10 Team Challenge for July 18th

Man I'm super pumped about getting to race against the Turn 10 devs tonight.  I think this is gonna be a barn burner for sure.  The leaderboard times are unbelievably tight for the PBs.  The Enzo's a really fun car to drive.  I had never really touched it before putting together our setup for this and what a smooth car it is for this track.

I'll hazard a guess that the T10 team will be Albus, Voodoo T10 and Adamk24...

This thing gonna be a Forza TV race?  I'll be saving my replay for sure but I have a few friends that wanna watch it...

GL Turn 10....    yer gonna need it...  cuz I found my pipe...  Wink [;)]

I'm excited as well, this will be a close race, too close for comfort actually lol I saw the leaderboards as well.
Albus is not going to be able to make it, he got last minute meetings and work :(

I need to check how many laps we'll be racing for.

Re: Turn 10 Team Challenge for July 18th

I imagine the T10 boys will be able to do a more comprehensive, and perhaps unbiased recap of the events of last night, but I shall summarize the event as seen from my perspective (with pics of course)...  However, I will point out that it is usually the winners take on events that are remembered in the anals of history...  Wink [;)]

First off, I'd like to thank Turn 10 for giving RedNeck, Fish and I the opportunity to represent the community in this challenge.  It's great that you guys interact with the community so openly and in such sporting manner.  We had a blast and hopefully we'll have the chance to do it again sometime...

The grid started out with OMCR in positions 1 (Fish), 4 (Redneck) and 6 (myself) and T10 in positions 2 (AdamK24), 3 (Landin aka BLKJ SideFX) and 5 (Voodoo).

Here's a couple of grid shots... the T10 look sweet in the challenge livery...

    T10 Grid Livery

    Back of the Grid

The first hard braking corner came off without incident, AdamK24 got the hole-shot and led into the corner...   I had gotten inside both Landin and Voodoo but backed off into the corner because I knew I was on a bad line so exiting the long sweeper I was 20-30 meters back, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise as everyone raced into the next hard braking zone.  Redneck sitting 3rd broke a little early and Landin dove inside braking later but couldn't hold his line because of cold tires (and excessive speed Stick out tongue [:P] ) and slid into the left rear of Fish in 2nd. This sent Landin around and effectively blocked out Voodoo and Redneck into the wall and Landin ended up pointing the wrong way.  Able to see what was happening I broke early and took a tight inside line past the mess and moved into 3rd.  Voodoo came out sitting 4th followed by Redneck and Landin.  I will however say this, Landin made THE nicest 180 recovery I have seen in this game to stay in the hunt.  Huge style points on the recovery dude!!!

    1st Lap Incident

Going into the double right hander that got us going back toward the banking Fish got a couple wheels in the dirt and I was thru into 2nd and off to chase down Adam.

As we hit the banking though Voodoo had a pivotal mishap, he looked to be a little aggressive on the throttle and drifted high enough to lightly catch the wall and pretty much glue himself to it so that he had to back off and brake to get free of the wall and that let Redneck AND Landin thru and left him fighting an uphill battle sitting 6th after lap 1, but early in lap 2 Landin got a little wide and let Voodoo thru to 5th.

    Voodoo's Boo-boo

Things stayed that way for the next several laps with Voodoo reeling in Redneck and me sloppily nipping at Adam's heels. Then came the pivotal moment for me in the race.

As lap 7 came to a close, Adam swept in tight to the pit wall and started high 5'ing his pit crew. A cocky and premature celebration I must say.  Sure he had been driving smooth enough up until that point, but with 3 laps left dude?!?!?  Come ON!!!  I know you said yer hand slipped on the controller... but I saw what you did... admit it...

    Adams Hi Five

As we approached the banking at the end of lap 9 it came back to bite him in the ass...

    Pass FTW

Adam didn't slow down enough for the left hander heading to the banking, got into the rhubarb and I was there to capitalize...

On the final lap Voodoo made a daring but solid pass on Redneck having finally reeled him in to take away 4th, but it was too little too late then...

    Voodoo's Pass For 4th

and OMCR took home the victory...

    Checkered Flag

    Finishing order...

    1) OldmanOil
    2) AdamK24
    3) GLR Fishon
    4) Voodoo T10
    5) GLR1FastRedneck
    6) BLKJ SideFX

Great race everyone...  said it before, I'll say it again, had a blast, thanks for letting us compete against T10.

PS - From worst to first with out making a legitimate racing pass... I know I got lucky...  Wink [;)]

Re: Turn 10 Team Challenge for July 18th

So I guess it is fitting to say "Old Men Can Race" !!! The Old Fogies showed the Whipper Snappers exactly how it's done!!! I have a few pictures of my own, along with a few words:

Race spectators were phREDESIGN from Turn 10 and OnaBreak from Team GLR.

Special thanks to General FRANKZ and Monster Racing for tuning and testing assistance. You guys rock!!!!

    OMCR paints by GLR1FastRedneck.

    Starting lineup: 1st-GLR FISHON(OMCR), 2nd-AdamK24(T10), 3rd-BLKJ SIDEFX(T10), 4th-GLR1FastRedneck(OMCR), 5th-Voodoo T10(T10), 6th-OldmanOil(OMCR):

At the start, AdamK24 jumps out front and thing go very well for the first few turns. Picture shows the exit of Turn 3 on Lap 1:

Then the unthinkable happens, BLKJ SIDEFX drives too deep into the corner and makes contact with GLR FISHON. FISH survives and holds on to second place, but three of us get bottled up in the mess...OldmanOil slips by on the inside....passing the 3 bottled up cars:

Still on lap 1, Voodoo T10 makes contact with the wall coming up onto the banking, Redneck and BLKJ SIDEFX get by him:

Voodoo T10 ends up getting back by BLKJ SIDEFX and OldmanOil gets by GLR FISHON:

For the next several laps, things stay the same: OMCR-2nd, 3rd, and 4th / Turn 10-1st, 5th, and 6th.....that is until lap 9!!! Race leader, AdamK24, makes his only mistake of the race and OldmanOil is there to pounce...taking the lead!!!:

Voodoo T10, little by little eating away at GLR1FastRedneck's advantage, took 4th away halfway through the final lap:

But it was too little too late for the Turn 10 Whipper Snappers!! OldmanOil, from 6th to 1st, takes the victory, and OMCR upsets the Turn 10 Champs:

    1) OldmanOil--------------8 points
    2) AdamK24---------------5 points
    3) GLR Fishon------------3 points
    4) Voodoo T10------------2 points
    5) GLR1FastRedneck--1 point
    6) BLKJ SideFX----------0 points

    OMCR--12 points       Turn 10--7 points

Thanks again, Turn 10, for having the Turn 10 Team Challenge, and for letting us Old Fogies represent the Forza 2 Community. This was a complete blast!!

When you guys are ready for a rematch....just make sure that you clearly remember.......

                       OLD MEN CAN RACE !!!
