Your favourite racing driver?
hi guys, did a quick search (all 3 pages!) and didnt see it posted
like to know who's been your favourite driver in motorsport
mine, obvious choice really, has to be Michael Schumacher. I remember watching him in the pouring rain, in an inferior ferrari, annihalate the opposition at monte carlo.
i was mesmerised by his performance, and became a huge fan of his.
i think it was the right decision ( for him) when he left, at the top, still Number 1
I heard alot about Ayrton Senna. its a shame ive never really seen his races though
who's been your favourite driver, not necessarily the most successful?
cheers

Re: Your favourite racing driver?
G'day Being a fan of rally id have to say Colin Mcrae. A great driver who would thrash the opposition whilst entertaining the crowd to the max, a tragic shame he is no longer with us. Cheers

hey chong, yeah colin mcrae was amazing
back in 93, i was sniffing around his 555 impreza, which was in our reception, when i used work at BAT. i remember saying, it didnt look like it was worth 250k. there wasnt even a stereo inside! just a couple of seats and a roll cage

Re: Your favourite racing driver?
without a doubt, Senna. this man was my hero, I'll never forget watching him die on tv, I was 19 years old and I remember I started crying when I saw him laying on the track as the medics tried to resuscitate him...I knew he was gone.
This clip is about 8 minutes long but please watch it all, his funeral is the last 3 minutes or so and the procession alone is incredible.

even more moving is watching Schumacher react to the news he matched Senna's record of wins.

RIP, Ayrton, we will always remember you...
It's all fun and games til someone loses an eye, then its a sport.

Indiana Jonas:
Not about to argue that, i'll forever remember his drive at djion, and that was for second! He reminds me of
Jim Clark (who died when i was three) in the fact that he passed WAY before he should have. Their are so
many greats i loved/hated but, respected all. I don't see how i could pick just one as my favorite.
EDIT: During the part showing the final laps at djion it would have seemed better if they would have used the theme from rocky at some point cause that was a brawl!

Re: Your favourite racing driver?
Good one Hadoq, I watched a show about the ring and it showed her, she is badass. If i could ever get over there but not get to drive i would be more than happy to let her do the driving. But, only if i get to ride in the
seat beside her not the back. I would even pay extra if i had to.

For the second clip first, i thought the guy was an idiot and wish Mika would have got up and smacked him. I watched it live and if you notice it wasn't long after that he was replaced with peter windsor who now shares duties with speed channel. They were both there that tragic day and he should have backed off when shumi lost
it. I know what this thread is supposed to be for but, i get emotional myself when i think back to that day. As
for the first clip; i lost it, all these years and i still break down like it just happened. I was the same way in '04
when SPEED replayed the race on the 10 year anniversary. Two dead (Senna, Ratsenberger) and Rubens was
blessed by god the only reason he survived. That was a very dark time for motorsport. Sorry guys about venting
but, back then i cheered AGAINST him, thats just the kind of respect he more than earned.

I'm a fan of smoke myself (i guess thats why i have over 30 diecast cars of him!). When kyle's experience catches
up with his talent he really will be tough. I just don't want someone to start saying nascar has the best drivers in
the world, some of the best, yes, but not the best. No one race series has the right to say that. If you notice
the audi pictured with my name is orange with the number 20.

Re: Your favourite racing driver?
great thread m8.......im with you.....not that you'd of guessed lol...
the best....Ever! and F1's only 7 times World Champ.... the one.... the only....
Micheal Schumacher F1 King.

I also loved Senna and Mika....also great drivers......Senna has to take top spot for the naughty boys though with his on & off track antics, Much worse than the ones everyone slags Schuey off for...but never the less... still one of the all time F1 greats and i was very said the day he died...and as for Mika, well the best F1 Season of all time (in my opinion) 2000 was great, Mika and Schuey wheel to wheel in almost every gp and never once hit each other....great racing.....great drivers.
oh and something i'm working on if you wanna take a look, its a Schumi tribute video of his total 91 race wins, so far im upto about win number 22 (just into the ferrari years), this vid is very much WIP so there are a few bits that i still have to edit for the final version, there's a bit near the end where the picture jumps for a start....but anyway's take a look and let me know what you think so far.
Music tracks used so far ....
.Eye of the tiger - (Survivor) .Win the race - (Modern Talking) .You are the champion - (Scorpions) .Open your eyes - (Guano Apes) .Follow me - (Lange)
for full screen right click on video and select "zoom" then "fullscreen".

Re: Your favourite racing driver?
Villeneuve
Senna
Stewart
Mario
Arnoux
Mikka
I grew up watching F1 in the early 70's and 80's. Some of the most powerfully brutal F1 cars made. I can spend hours watching youtube footage of those races and drivers.
Here's a Senna lap at Suzuka, what a handful and listen to the song the engine is playing.
