Crying [:'(] A little help for a fellow gamer?

I have been trying to connect my Xbox 360 to LIVE for the last couple of weeks, and it keeps on saying, "IP Connect fail".

    First things first;

I have been trying to connect via direct wire to my laptop as I am in a hotel and they have no hardwire. Is it possible to connect via this way or do I need a router?

The way I usually go is:

    1. Connect from PC to 360

    2. Wireless bridge to Local Connection

    3. Restart both PC and 360

About this time I endup with the "No IP" message. As I have metioned, I have tried several times on this method and have no router. Could you walk me through this?

I have already googled it and found some guides, but I can't get it to work....

I am staying in a Exended Stay America and they have their wireless set so every 24 hrs you have to enter a password on a site to get access. Could this be holding me up at all?

Please help me before I go insane and throw my PC and 360 through the window!Devil [6]Angry [:@]

    I want my live back........

    Sad [:(]Sad [:(]Sad [:(]

Most of the hotel connections will not give you an IP address for a connection like you're trying to set up.  First, your laptop would need to have TWO Ethernet ports, one for the incoming signal to which it would connect, and the second to share (Internet Connection Sharing) to the Xbox 360. Sorry to say, but what you need to throw out the window is your idea that your setup would work.  It won't.

BTW - IF you could get a router, it often times will not operate as a slave unit to the hotel's network.  If you have a knowledgeable deskclerk or someone there who wishes to be helpful, you might be able to do that.

Re: A little help for a fellow gamer?

Ok, I understand the part that I have to bridge the connections, and I have that portion down.

    What happens is this:

I connect the wire to my laptop and get all that done. I have the system run a test and it says wired. I get to the IP config settings, and it will timeout on the IP. I have tried setting it myself, and it will still timeout. I haven't asked the desk clerk as I usually find that they are computer incapable and have no idea as to the IP, DNS, ect. I have brought a modem, however I don't have the drivers. My comuter has an internal Wireless connection, and a local area port. I usually plug it in that way. Is the modem required to make this work or do I have something wrong?

I will ask my friend if she can help me at all, as she is more "technologly advanced" then me. I do have some experiance with computers, and know about IPs and that.
