    Team format

Bismark is correct in stating that we tried to work it out several months ago, but I had a lot of trouble in scheduling.  4, 4man teams is a nice number and that schedule is easy, 2man teams would be a nightmare having everyone race everyone the same number of times.  Going to 6 4man teams would work, but we will have trouble holding onto 24 drivers for the entire season.

As for the team selection, 3 ways to go, use points and then have tryouts, and assign.  Assign captians and have them draft (I don't like anything that make someone feel bad for being picked last).  Or this is the one I like, have everyone tryout.  Bismark would pick 3 tracks of a varied style, and assign the car to be driven at each track.  400hp any upgrades, 10 laps and the total time of your 3 best laps would place you in an order.  Then (lets say 24 drivers) it would look like this,

    Team 1 Team 2 Team 3 Team 4 Team 5 Team 6
    1 2 3 4 5 6
    12 11 10 9 8 7
    13 14 15 16 17 18
    24 23 22 21 20 19

The next bit then to answer is, do you race in 4 rooms with 1,2,3,4,5,6 in a room and so on, or (again what I like), Team 1 v Team 2, 3 v 4, 5 v 6, and so on.

These are the kinds of things that Bismark and I were kicking around, I have thoughts on points and that, but that can come later.

    Re: Team format

the thing i dont like about the random assignment due to points standings is that i dont really feel like the points standings right now is entirely representative of fastest to slowest...when you factor in missed races and everything else it has some of the faster guys spread all throughout the grid...i personally dont mind, because i think that with the right instruction anyone can get better (including me) and while i would love to race with any one of the guys here, there are always gonna be the people that you wish you could run with weather it be because of potential or personality, and i think that "being picked" for a team makes you feel more like "ok this guy wants me on their team" and you feel more part of it, where as random assignment may lend itself more towards feeling like you were in a room with a bunch of strangers, and may be more apt to congregate with the teams that your buddies are on.

just my 2 cents, but over all i love the team idea.

Very good points about being picked, something I had not concidered.  Maybe all drivers could try out in the manner that I described, and then the captians (we'll come up with that later), would pick from groups (drivers would be divided into 4 groups).

another point to concider, with 6 4man teams, each member of the winning team would get a unicorn car, that is something I know I would never win in the current format.

very true...it would let some of the guys that may not be able to acquire one normally to get one....good call silver.

    Re: Team format

IMO, the rooms should be based on points, as they currently are. keep the divisions. i also think the draft is they way to go. being selected for a teams makes you feel more like a "team" and less like a random grouping of people. as for being the last picked, some of us here have no illusions of being first round draft. those of us who are slower know we're slower. at the same time, some of us who are slower are slower for more than just skill. i think we would see the "slower" guys turning faster laps because the "faster" members of the team would be more apt to pass on tunes and help with race strategy and technique than in the current setup, but that is outside the scope of our current conversation.

bottom line. keep the divisions based on points. let the teams be spread to where their drivers place, as is the current setup. decide how many teams we want (4 sounds like a good number to start with) and the 4 points leaders are the team captains. hold a tryout as was suggested and allow the team captains to spectate the race so they can watch the drivers actually drive instead of trying to keep an eye on them in their rearview mirror. some people won't have to attend tryouts. people live silverfox, scotty, etc are well known and a tryout wouldn't change anything for those drivers. the new drivers and some of us lesser known guys would need to tryout so we can be seen and judged for draft..

any way we figure out to make it work, i think the team atmosphere would lead not only to more fun overall, but to a better turn-out overall.

    Re: Team format

What I like the most about this team idea is the sharing of car setups.  This could only make everyone better.

I've gotten a lot of help from bodyrollin and, before he left, sneaky pete.  I do okay as a driver, but setting up a car was never one of my strengths.  From working with guys in this league I have learned a lot about setting up and tweaking a car, which has made me faster.  If I was on a team I could share what I have learned and also get some ideas from guys on my team, which would be awesome.

I agree with body's comments on selecting drivers.  A draft is just one more way to increase interest and create more of a team atmosphere because you were selected to be on a team rather than just being assigned based on points.

Whatever the format, I think son00bish's post about adding teams is an excellent idea.

    Re: Team format

The draft thing could work very well.  Someone mentioned something about being picked near the end and maybe taking it personal.  The draft could take place in a closed room, with the results posted on the forums after.  The number of teams has to be even, so everyone is racing every week.

    Re: Team format

I knew once Noob had posted the idea about a team concept that the idea would spark a lot of interest.
The team concept that Fox and I discussed a while back suggested some of if not all of the following ideas.
Team would have a name,ie TEAM COBRA, each car would have its own race number, each team could have its own race livery/colors.
Team name,colors/livery would be a joint effort by the said team,ie lots of imput and joint decision making.

The lobby if my memory serves me correctly can be set up for a team event.
The points for the race in question are already there and are allocated accordingly to were each member of the team places.
Each team within the lobby is assigned a color so you know who is on the Red Team, the Blue Team for example
I think the lobby allows for up to 4 teams of 2 or any combination of another number, not sure 100%.

The next season will not be 400hp,it can be what ever you want, weather that be PI based or as suggested by Bodyrollin, car weight based ie no less than 2500lbs and perhaps a limit on the horsepower,ie 300hp.

Noobs idea is a fantastic one and something I would love to see, remember Forza 3 is not to far away and judjing by what I have read its going to be on multiple disks, tons of tracks and tons of cars.
If this is true then there wouldnt be a better time to be part of a tournament like this.

    Thanks all
    Bismark

    Re: Team format

Whatever team I am on I would like to pick the number, because I can't paint anything.  That would be the only contribution I could do.

I really like the team thing.  Would you only have two teams in a room racing against each other or would you have multiple teams in each room and the total pts. accumulated over the different rooms determine the total team points.

I know most of the older CBZ boys have done the team racing, and there are a lot of things that can happen in a race that can affect the outcome, ie one driver slower other drivers up so team members out front can get away.  We have also done it where wrecking is allowed to try to let other team members to catch up.  I would be kinda cool if we could do something like that, but not have damage on, but that takes away from what the tourny has been about in the past.

    Just some thoughts.

    Re: Team format

As I wrote earlier the team concept could be mind blowing and lots of fun.
I`m with Fox in keeping with the clean racing format we have in place.
However that does not mean we would have to run with collisions on full simulation.
Again this is all speculation at this point.first I would need to know how many of the current members are up for this.
New guys will always be there,I just had another enquiry about joinng this tournament just today, these people will have no say in what format takes place for a new season, that can be decided by you.

The more I think about this team concept the more I like it and lets be honest it would be a welcome change towards our Forza fix.
I`m very excited about a Forza 3 and this format could be carried over should the game become reality.
Exciting times lay ahead and anyone who loves racing, loves competition, loves rivalry and loves racing with friends would be down for a Bismark World Team Event.

    Stay posted.

    Re: Team format

TBH, full sim is one of the great things here. i also like the HP cap over performance index.

of course, i'm down for next season even if it's factory spec racing the whole team concept is addming an entirely new dimension to things, and you're right biz, the lobbies are RTG for team racing with up to 4 teams.

    btw, i reserve #45!!

BTW, sorry i've been absent in the forums and practice as of late. i have been spending ALOT of time in my garage prepping the quads for the trip and working on my sons quad.

I'm sorry I havent been around also,  been slamed at work 65+ hours this weekCrying [:'(]  But I am reading all posts and WILL be around next season  you bet!!   and I would favor more hp but with weight restrictions  adding weight might free up some restricted cars and make some bad cars better

Don't know why, but I have never really been a big Batman fan.  Actually I have never been a real superhero fan.  I have seen a lot of the superhero movies, but can't think of one of them that I thought was just a great movie, well other than the Incredibles.

    the dark knight

ok so now that it is not 3AM and i have had a chance to let it all process here is a real review.  i'll preface this by saying that, like callaway,  i have never been a big fan of batman either.  It's the principal of the thing, he has no super power/ability, he's just some crazy rich guy with alot of money to buy neat-o gadgets, in my opinion that does not make a SUPERhero.  I havent seen any of the bat man movies since the very first one....like i said i just didnt like them.

That all having been said, i must digress...this is probably one of the best comic-to-movie-translations I have seen.  The action sequences are top notch, and dont disappoint.  The actors do an absolutely brilliant job.  the cinematography is excellent. all of this is VERY much overshadowed by one thing though....the portrayal of the joker as done by heath ledger.  this honestly was the only reason i wanted to see this movie, and it was everything i expected.  I personally never cared for any incarnation of the joker (be it from the comics or from any of the tv shows, or movies) because it was wayyyyy to far fetched...always an ultimatum...to take over gotham city...heath ledger brings this character to life in the most believable version to be seen....a very dark character that, yeah he has paint on his face, but its not always perfect, and he does things, not to control anything but, to set things out of control.  he does them just because he's crazy.  which, i believe, is the way the joker should have been all along...just a crazy guy that liked to do crazy shxt...

now i'm not gonna say that this movie doesnt have some imperfections, or flaws. i will say though that they are few and far between.  pacing of the movie at first seems to be a little slow...after the first cool scene/intro.  the pace seems to drop way off, and it does drag a bit in the beginning.  the female lead, Rachel Dawes, could have been cast better i believe....not that maggie gyllenhall doesnt play the part well, because she does a great job acting the part.  She just doesnt seem to be "the type" of girl that would have the undivided attention of one of the richest men in the world, embodied by christian bale, and a powerful young DA played by Aron Eckhart, i would just imagine that someone that has that kind of company, as far as romantic interests, would be "hotter" that's all.

All in all this movie was absolutely everything i wanted it to be and it delivered on all the hype.  i would highly recommend that everyone go see this movie, batman fan or not....because it is a phenominal movie.
