Forza Friends,

It was two years ago that I turned to you in hopes of generating some ideas for my Takata sponsored Time Attack Impreza.  The result of the livery design contest was incredible.  I am proud to say that thanks to the entire Forza community, and in particular Andre Guerrieri (AG dRizZe) of Tuning AG, I am the proud owner of simply the best looking car on the Time Attack circuit.  The excitement about the contest has followed me nationwide as I meet new people at each race who are enthusiastic about our involvement with Forza.  The positive impact of my relationship with the Forza community has been so great that I couldn't imagine starting a new program without getting the community involved.  I am grateful for your support and enthusiasm and hope that it continues as I embark on a new racing campaign.  I am excited to give my Forza friends the inside scoop on my 2010 racing plans.

For 2010, Takata Time Attack has gained a new partner, LIC Motorsports.  With the popularity and competitiveness of the sport of Time Attack growing, it was necessary for me to align my efforts with a Subaru tuner that could support us trackside.  LIC Motorsports is an established and talented Subaru garage based in Novato in northern California.  The most significant change you will take note of this year is that the current Takata Impreza will be retired.  Since we will be focusing our efforts on Time Attack events in California and Nevada, LIC Motorsport's 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi will become the Takata Impreza Version 2!  The LIC Impreza's level of preparation is comparable to the current Takata Impreza, but work is already underway to increase the potential of the car to ensure that we are a front running team next year.  If you want to learn more about the car, check this link.

The Takata Impreza Version 2 will debut at a Time Attack event in less than two months, and I'm turning to the Forza community once again to help us develop a head turning livery.  Would you like to see your winning design on our car?  I would sincerely appreciate you help, and to entice you we are once again offering some prizes!

To get started, you'll want to read the rules and requirements below.  I have taken some steps to make the contest more accessible to more people.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Good Luck and have fun!  Any questions, please ask in this forum.

A. Suggestions and Considerations to Guide your Creativity:
1. Recommended Color Scheme: Green, White, Silver, and Red
2. The base paint for the LIC Impreza is rally blue pearl.  There are no plans to paint the car as we did in 2008, though we do not expect that the blue paint will work well with our color scheme.  Therefore we intend to have the entire car wrapped in vinyl.  Basically this removes any limits of your creativity.  Your design can be as mild or wild as you desire, because the entire graphics of the car will be printed from nose to tail.
3. For some inspiration, check out the finalists from our contest from 2008 at this link.

B. Constraints

1. You must use a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi to apply the livery.  We will not be converting the nose the newer design as we did last time.
2. The body should use the FM front bumper, FM rear wing, SEIBON Hood, and Chargespeed side skirts.
2. 18" wheels of any style may be used.  The LIC Impreza currently has white Rota DPT, similar to Rota Tarmac 3 in the game.  We are considering painting part or all of them to match the new livery.
3. Carbon fiber hood, trunk, fender, doors, or roof may be exposed if you desire.

C. Required Decals & Logos

All required decals are available on my storefront, username XeviousR.  See below for instructions on how to access my storefront.

Primary Sponsor: Takata

Logo must appear in at lest 4 places.  Recommended placement is rear doors, trunk, roof, and front bumper.
Takata logo may be used with or without the red Takata icon.
Suggestion: Incorporate Takata Motorsports slogan "Go For Green"
Suggestion: Incorporate the image of a Takata Multi Point Harness into the design.  This turned out to be a critical design factor in the 2008 contest.  Although I definitely appreciate the value of having the harness illustrated in the design, we might be ready for a change.

Subsidary Sponsors:
LIC Motorsports: Must have prominent placement in at least 3 places.  Recommend placement is hood and rear quarter panels.
Nitto Tire: Must be located on front fenders
Cobb Tuning: Must be on the sides of the car. Updated 9 Feb 2010
Wheeldude.com:  Must be located on the side skirts.
JE Pistons: Must be on the sides of the car. Updated 9 Feb 2010
Redline Time Attack number panel must appear on both sides.  Preferred placement is at the front of the front doors.
Deatsch Werks:  Optional. Updated 9 Feb 2010

Please note that the logo requirements have changed since the start of the contest.   These requirements are intended to be a guide.  Your design submission will not be penalized for missing or misplaced logos, but consideration for our sponsors is very much appreciated. (9 Feb 2010)

D. How to acquire the decals

All the decals you need are available in my storefront.  To access my storefront, access the storefront within Forza 3 and do a decal search.  Use the search term "James Elterman".  The result should yield a couple items.  Choose an item and you should see that the owner is XeviousR (me).  Select the option to view the owner's storefront.  There you will find 18 decals which will get your off to a good start.

 

I have tried to make available a few color variations of each logo, but obviously I couldn't post everything.  If you need a logo in a particular color, feel free to send a friend request to XeviousR on Xbox Live and I will gift the decal file to you.

E. Eligibility

1. You must have a Xbox Live Gold account to participate.  (It is necessary to retrieve the decals, submit photos, and gift the livery if it is a finalist)
2. Employees of Takata, LIC Motorsports, our sponsors or their affiliates are not eligible.

F. Submitting your design
1. Designs must be submitted by Thursday February 25th, 2010 at Noon CST
2. You may submit as many designs as you like.
3. Only liveries created with Forza Motorsports 3’s in-game livery creator are acceptable.  No Photoshoping.
4. To submit your art, take 3 photos of your car in the garage/livery editor environment of Forza Motorsport 3.  Follow the link to the Design Submission Thread and post the photos as a reply.
5. Please do not gift the livery to me unless you are notified that you are a finalist.  My design catalog is already clogged up with too may liveries.

G. Design Finals
1. 10 designs will be chosen for the Design Finals by me, James Elterman.  The finalists will be announced on Friday February 26th, 2010.
2. Finalists will be required to gift their livery to the XBL account of XeviousR for review.
3. Finalist designs will be submitted to Takata and LIC Motorsports for review.  The Winner, 2nd, and 3rd place design will be selected by James Elterman, Takata, and LIC Motorsports and will be announced on Friday March 5, 2010.

H. Your Design Coming to Life
1. Please note that if your art is selected as the winner, there will be some changes for the sake of feasibility and suitability for our sponsors.

Some of you may caught in the above text that I noted that the current Takata Impreza will be retired.  What exactly does this mean?  Well, sadly it is now for sale.  If anyone is looking to jump from virtual racing into a fully prepared Time Attack car, this probably isn't for you.  But if you have some experience behind the wheel of a race car, and are looking for a fully prepared and very competitive car, look no further.  Serious inquires can contact me via PM.

For those of you that would like to enjoy the Takata Time Attack Impreza (Version 1) in Forza Motorsport 3, the designer Andre Guerrieri has meticulously recreated the design in FM3 as it appeared at the 2009 Redline Time Attack Finale.  He has also graciously offered to allow me to offer it for FREE to the Forza community on my storefront.  Try a design search for "Official Takata" to find the Official Takata Time Attack livery by Tuning AG in the XeviousR storefront.

UPDATE: February 8th, 2010

It has barely been two days since we made the announcement about our 2010 plans but there is already exciting new developments to share.  We are developing a relationship with two new sponsors!

 

Cobb Tuning, manufacturer of the COBB AccessPORT, will be providing tuning services for our 500 whp E85 burning engine.  The outgoing Takata Impreza Version 1 also used the Cobb AccessPORT tuning hardware and it was very reliable for us, so I look forward to our continued relationship with Cobb!

 

JE Pistons, manufacturer of forged racing pistons, will be providing us with a custom set of forged pistons.  JE Pistons are the preferred piston of LIC Motorsports and we are happy to extend the relationship with them

With our new partners in mind, we would like their logos to be on the car.  The Cobb Tuning logo will be approximately 18" long on and placed on the sides of the car.  The JE Pistons logo does not have a specific place.

With this information coming in after the start of our contest, you are not required to use these logos in your submission, but it is appreciated.  You can find both logos in my Storefront.

I have spent hours today answering questions via email, PM, Xbox Live, and forum posts.  Please do me the curtesy of reading Page 1 thoroughly; it should answer most questions you have.  If you do have questions, please ask in this thread so everyone can benefit from the answer.  Please do not send PMs as I almost never check my PM box.  Sorry to a handful of people that have sent me PMs in the last few days; I have recently responded by PM.

I discovered today that my friends list was full, so I had to clear some names out.  I have gifted out at least 30 livery cars with the decals in the last 2 days.  If you were missed, please send me a friend request and I'll take care of it promptly.

With thanks due to Turn 10, we have some additional prizes!  1st place receives 5 million in-game credits and all 3 unicorn cars.  2nd and 3rd get some credits and unicorns as well.  Check the OP for more info.

To address some common questions...

Metallic/Chrome Decals: Yes, you can use them.

Photo Submissions: As mentioned in the OP, please post photos of the submission from the garage environment, not the track.  This is not a photo contest.  We'll do a photo contest later 

Harnesses: Many people have asked if the harnesses are required; no they are not.  Having the harnesses in the livey does help people relate what product Takata makes, but we did a great job of communicating that over the last couple years.  We could honestly go either way.  Its up to you.  If you would like to incorporate the harnesses into your design but are concern that you can't match the level of detail that other painters have; no problem!  We are judging the concept, not the fact that you recplicated the harnesses to picture perfect accuracy.  Use a green stripe and grey circle if you have to.  A professional artist will be used to translate your design to real life, so don't sweat the details.  

Locked Designs: If you have used locked decals to create your livery submission, worry not!  If you are a finalist, I will simply ask that you remove any locked decals before gifting it to me.  From your photos I can easily add them back on.

Good point but I don't want anyone wasting time re-creating logos.  I'm happy to gift them.  The general submission process is by photo though.  I will not need to receive gift of the design unless it is a finalist.  I want to make this contest as accessible as possible.
