Re: Who here avoid using leaderboard cars?
Mafioso: P00hhead:
I would probably be 3000 on that track in a Mugen Integra, nowhere near leaderboard status.
No way. I think you're underestimating the power of the Mugen Integra. If you used the tune that I used you'll be in the top 1000 atleast. Unless you drive slow on purpose just to make me look bad. haha
Send it to me and I'll try it out. Like I always say "It's the driver that gets the times, not the car" Don't discount your skills, they are by far the #1 determining factor in any laptime, good and esp. bad. If you can get in the top 100 on Maple Valley, you are better than %99.99 of the people who have tried.

Sneaky:I usually try to pick a car or change my assists to the level of the room. So who knows i might bring out a Charger (which i don't actually), but leave TCS off, etc...
And that right there is the reason you're not a Ultimate Megatron level 60 yet. You need to have that killer instinct. Bust out the Stingray with all assists on every race no matter what. Its the Forza way.

Re: Who here avoid using leaderboard cars?
I have two sets of cars. 1000 hp missiles and 6.2 handlers in one group. Normally tuned cars that are drivable with no assists in the other group. Needless to say the first group holds all my leaderboard times and I use the other group for nightly racing. Curious how I set my times with the first group and have been racing for six months with the other group and have not knocked one of my old times off on fast tracks. Only way to knock them off is get in a "cheater" car. And don't fool yourself, those cars are fast because the developers messed up on them in the balancing stage of game development. They are glitch, cheater cars. It's a shame people use these hotlap cars to cheat in real races. Doesn't that make them feel icky inside? I know it does for me. I can't use a charger in real race without feeling like a total scumbag. Chevelles holding the top 100 times on may C class tracks is not anybody's definition of parody.

So you 'never' race your scoreboard cars online? What if the rest of the lobby is, do you leave out of stubborness? Sounds like a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face to me.
Some of the best races I ever have are with the GBR boys, they nearly always race LB cars online and because there using similiarly matched cars the races are close! I take great satisfaction in beating champions/veterans driving an inferior car like my cooper.

Prime example of the type of attitude that irks me. Someone likes to play the game differently than another and in some crazy way that makes them a cheater. Sorry, but T10 made the cars the way they are. Plenty of people, myself included, pleaded with T10 to address the missles back when everyone got bent out of shape about the Elan thinking it was glitched. It wasn't, it just suffered from the same PI abnormalities that the missles do. T10 made a clear statement that the muscle cars were not glitched. They are not cheater cars, they're just cars in a video game. You don't enjoy driving them, but plenty of people do. They are not cheaters. End of story.

I can see why he's annoyed, but I agree with you. That takes it too far. I dont consider them cheating cars, just cars that obviously have a big advantage. So people shouldnt bust them out in race rooms unless everybody else is. But they're def not cheating cars. Its cool to hot lap with them.

I can see why he'd be annoyed as well, until I got over the idea that forza was a sim I was annoyed as well with these cars. But when I got over that, got used to how to drive them and actually now hold a #1 time with one when I never thought I'd ever be able to get in the top 100. And strangely enough, once I started to learn how to drive them they taught me valuable lessons and techniques I have applied to other cars that have made me faster in them as well. But, they are still extremely hard to keep on track, especially for multiple laps. So, in my view, only people who are really skilled can win races of any length with them. Just because someone comes into a race with a muscle beast does not mean they are skilled enough to keep it on line long enough to win a race. Now, if they're that skilled to win over the course of 5 or 6 laps with them, then they're probably skilled enough to win with whatever other car you put them in.

Re: Who here avoid using leaderboard cars?
I actually have less of a problem with missles because like you sayd, they're hard as hell to control. So atleast it takes skill! And they're fun to drive. But the ultra handling Mugen/Elise......eh not so much. I let P00hhead have one of my Mugens. He used to be ranked 3100th or so at Maple. Lets see what he ends up at now driving a Mugen. (By the way nice time at Maple man, I saw your name up there, wow).

A valuable plus to driving the missle cars that I think some people miss out on...

Re: Who here avoid using leaderboard cars?
Also, this point was kind of illustrated in an online lobby I was in last night, but how much slower do people really think the top drivers would be if assists were taken out of the game? Do people think that the top drivers would suddenly become none top drivers w/out assists in missle cars? I know this question kind of stretches away from the op, but it is still a valid and related question nonetheless.

Top drivers usually drive without assists to begin with, besides ABS, so it wouldn't really affect them. Through my experience, I've had many LB or Missle car drivers use another car, and they usually place in the middle of the pack with it (ranging from Champs to Pros). None of my cars are tuned (because I suck at it) so I didn't have an advantage over them. I can usually nab a podium if no LB cars are in the room.

Take a quick look at the scoreboards for missle car tracks and tell me that the great majority of top times were not set with TCS.
There are plenty of top drivers that do indeed use assists for the missle cars, but that doesn't mean for a second that they can't run quickly without assists.

No, they aren't. They are just cars which are extremely strong on a particular style of track, but the corollary of that is that they are extremely weak on other types. As I said in a previous post, I've tested a D Class Trans Am, Civic and now 2000GT in Blooze's QR (total time on Atlanta Short, Sebring Short and Tsukuba) and the 3 cars were separates by 1.5 seconds. Overall, the cars are balanced, but this will only really show if you enter a series rather than a single race where a particular car can play to it's strengths. The top drivers are fast - very fast. Their fastest times are in the fastest cars becuase it only shows the fastest time someone sets. But, I would be amazed if someone like Greek was unable to run a great time in an ordinary car - a good driver in a poor car will set a decent time, the same is not true of a poor driver in a great car. That's why I don't like to see fast drivers whipping out the top cars in a mixed lobby. It's a simple matter of courtesy really (as Don has said elsewhere). If you beat the field by miles, either take Don's route of finding another room which better matches your talents, or my route of pulling out a pig of a car (such as my Challenger Concept ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) ) so you can enjoy some close racing with the existing guys. As Georgia Dog said, there's nothing wrong with asking someone (politely) to stop using that car which is dominating the lobby. But, think how bored the host might be if he has to ask that every race - surely it's better (and nicer for everyone) to make that change unasked.

I'm speaking of top drivers in general, not just the drivers at the top of scoreboards. I should've clarified that.

If the host doesn't ask for a change, then why would anyone ever change. I run my lobby on Forza as a bring what you want type of deal. I don't care what people run. But, if I were to want to add some stipulations to the type of cars I wanted used in my lobby, I have to speak up and tell people. It's the hosts responsiblity to let people know what is expected in the lobby and not expect random joiners to be psychic. It's really this simple. If you want to run your lobby by banning certain cars and someone pops in the lobby with a car that doesn't fit. You ask them to change it. If they won't leave or change the car, you boot them. Problem solved.

Exactly. It's a little silly to expect people to keep tabs on whatever car is unpopular this week and make sure not to use them regardless of whether or not the host says anything. Some people don't like really specific cars, some people want to race with all one car. There are an infinite number of possible race scenarios that the host could be shooting for. It's their job to let me know what they're after, then it's my decision whether I'm interested in participating..
