Tonight should be a fun race.  I have not taken the time to really get anything done the past two weeks at all.  Not really sure what car to run.  I looks like Bismark should walk away with this one.  Plus it looks like we may only have 3 people running in division 2 if I am reading the forums correctly.  Offbro said he can't make it, Twisted the same, and Racer said he believes devilsdog is no longer in the tourny.

I know Bismark looks fast, and Racer is always fast, that leave me bring up the last of the pack.  HMMMM good times for all.

I thought Div 2 was racing last night?

I am available tonight!!!! Hurrah, I'm racing! I'd better sort a car out because I could be getting some points tonite,

    10 of them. Wink [;)]

Well, I wish.... but I might pick up some decent points!

    See you tonite lads!

Had this been a lower HP or PI race I would be more confident of producing the goods,as it is and like tekQ mentioned the grass is your worst enemy here.
Almost any sort of contact with grass spells trouble and while my car is pretty fast it can get loose in a heartbeat.
Good luck to everyone in all 3 divisions.

    Possible new rule

Based on what happened between DaBrown and I at Maple Valley I would like to recommend a new rule:

If a driver decides to back out of a race because of an accident or lack of pace they would have to leave the race and go to the lobby.

    Thoughts?

And, no worries DaBrown, it happened and it's over.

    Ultimate race simulation

Okay, so now that I've had some time to digest what happened I'd like to share my perspective.

I've watched a lot of racing over the years, as I'm sure many of you have also, and I'm reminded of the accident that took Alex Zanardi's legs when he was t-boned by Alex Tagliani at 205mph back in 2001.  I figure I was doing about 130mph when I came up on dabrown's car sitting right in the middle of the road.  It was the ultimate t-bone.  Like Tagliani I had zero time to react.  Now obviously, I'm not making a direct comparison to what happend to Zanardi.  Afterall, all I lost was a race in a video game.

But I have to be honest - it scared the crap out of me!  The accident just happened so fast.  I jumped probably 4 inches out of my chair, dropped the controller, and trashed my earpiece.  I don't even remember the last time I was caught so off gaurd by something that it made my heart race like that.  It made me think of what Tagliani's reaction must have been just before impact.

So the way I see it, while definitely not at the same extreme, I got one of the coolest race simulations this game has to offer by t-boning a car at 130mph during a very competitive league race.

My only recommendation to dabrown - eat BEFORE the race.

Beers all the way around from the Bismark beer tent!!!

    tek

    Re: Ultimate race simulation

I was informed last night in the lobby that RHR Devil Dog is no longer in the tournament,I would like to convey my thanks to Devil Dog for participating in this tournament and hope that during his time racing with us he enjoyed himself.

TekQs incident does sound bizzare and I would urge all drivers that if you feel the ned to retire your car from the race I feel its in the best interest to everyone that the retired person should retire back to the lobby.
This incident was a first in four seasons of racing and I know some folks who have retired have chosen to sit out the race on a grass run off.
Having said that the ruling will have to be that the retired driver now has to return back to the lobby.

Just a reminder to both Silverfox and TekQ Division 1 drivers now race for the bonus points, which became effective July 12th at Maple Valley.
    1  12pts, 2 10pts, 3 9pts, 4 8pts, 5 7pts, 6 6pts, 7 5pts, 8 4pts.

Division 2 and 3 will remain the same as always.

    Thanks all.

    Round Seven

    Maple Valley

    Flug RX-7

I hadn't done much setup work this week.... it's been a busy week at work and I've been playing a bit with a friend of mine who has finally picked up a 360... we've been battling over games since we were kids so I'm expecting a serious battle on Forza once he gets to grips with it... So it was about 90 mins before the race that I settled down to work on a car for the race.

With little time on the clock, I didn't want to run a premium car (Amemiya for example) but I did want something which had potential to rack up some healthy points, and as I've not driven a Mazda so far this season, the Flug was a perfect choice.

I'd got it tweaked so it was nice and stable but it wasn't going to set any records, in fact I'd only just started dipping into the 1min 25's before the race, but fingers crossed I'd pick some decent points as there was only five drivers in the division.

At the start I found myself on the back row (my preferred starting postion) and as the lights changed we charged towards the first corner.... Bismark and RacerX collided and suffered some damage, and Calloway and myself overtook them. Offbro grabbed first place and I found myself keeping up with the cars quite well (Mainly due to the damage on their cars)

Lap two and Calloway ran wide into turn one (he'd had less time than all of us setting up and got caught out.) and I took his position.... Frankly I was amazed to find myself in second and even more so when Offbro lost it on lap 8-9 and I took the lead... Sadly Offbro's car was now terminally damaged and he would retire shortly after, nice performance from his Lotus... it looked really good.

I maintained the lead for another few laps before Bismark overtook me and then had RacerX sitting on my exhaust for few laps, Bismark pulled a healthy gap out but then pitted on lap 15, that's when I had the first faint glimmer of hope that I might bag a win, as I was two stopping,  against the three stops Bis was running.

Of course, for me at least, that's when I usually mess up.

And true to form, that's what happened, as we started entering the flick back turns at the top of the hill towards the final downhill plunge and right hander onto the start/finish straight I clipped a kerb and flicked the car into the wall.... sliding along the nose for a few yards and wrecking the aero front and sides and both brakes on the left side.

At that point I put my hope for a win in the glovebox, because I didn't need it anymore. From that moment I became the fat wheezy kid from the Goonies who puffs along behind the stars. Aside from a moment of drama as I barrelled down the start straight and nearly collected Calloway coming out of the pits it was a just a nice trip around the track. And on lap 45 or so, another trip across some grass damaged the engine so I trailed around with a plume of smoke until I crossed the line in 4th place, some 2000 yards behind third.

It was still a good race though, I can't argue with a healthy 4th after two crashes so now it's knuckling down for next weeks race and hopefully bag some decent points!

    Next week, Road Atlanta!

    Re: bizmark 400 d~3 recap

awesome recaps guys...ill post some pics of D1 after a while...needless to say i was more than happy to come away with a 2nd place in D1 (sorry tekQ) but it was a fun race all in all....i took damage EARLY in the race, and was wayyyy slower than practice (got the flug down to a 1'22.547) and my best time in the race was about 1 second slower so yeah i was running really slow....but that being said it managed to stay entertaining, i was on a 2 pit strategy and it worked fine, tekQ truly was running away with this race since he was the only one that had the RE Amemiya left in his garage until tragedy struck late in the race and took his win out of his hands....

the story of my race was the contention for 3rd, and 2nd between me and beandaddy....he showed up in his fire engine red ferarri 355 and with the damage to the flug we were running DAMN close...he was on the same 2 stop strategy as me so we pitted together, everytime we would go into the pits i would come out 2-300 meters further ahead than i went in at, but over the 17 lap runs he would reel me in slowly but surely and in the end after 50 laps of racing, we ended up only 1 second apart....now that is close....

with tekq gone, it left devils to run away with this one, and rightfully so...he had that flug hustlin around that track...so congrats to everyone, and i will see you guys next week.

    Re: bizmark 400 d~3 recap

Great run by all last night.  In no way was I deserving of a 2nd place finish.  I didn't put any time into getting the car ready and fully expected to finish 4th or fifth.  The only thing that allowed me to finish where I did, was everyone taking at least some damage and those that finish lower than I did took heavy damage.  Great job by Bismark on his win.

    ZEIGHT13:
three wide lap one! more in am.....

good write up zeight. i'd just like to add that the 3-wide there was umm.. a necessity. i was in monoliths draft going into the turn and both mono and miguel bled off more speed than i anticipated. i had to juke left to avoid a serious collision. i no sooner blew past them on the inside when i clipped the grass as you can see in the first pic and kicked the rear end out. miguel stayed on the outside of me to retake the lead while mono and zeight were awed by my 300ft drift through that straight and the next corner, finally regaining control before the uphill...

bottom line, i didn't spend near enough time running the track with this car. i never did any type of pit testing (which is why i blew through the pits without stopping on my repair pit). i spent probably 2 hours total over the last 2 weeks running this track with this car, which was about 50% of my total game time over the last 2 weeks. i was disappointed in my race to say the least. after lap 37 i felt my car was no longer capable of doing anything but getting in the way and possibily causing an accident. monolith had already dropped out, and with a top speed in the start/finish straight of 137 (my 98 grand prix GTP is literally faster at this point), there was no way i was catching zeight or miguel, so i joined mono at the beer tent and watched miguel and zeight zip past another 13 times.

    Week 7 results

First my apoligies for the format of the recap, second, I have not updated the fast race and hot lap tables as I am missing data from Migeul (he sent it I deleted it) and Monolith (probably the same)

After next week I will begin posting with total points and when you drop your worst.  Lets just say that only 5 points seperate 3 drivers when you look at it like that now.
