ok new seating setup!  huge thanks go to schooner for the help with the plans, i hope it passes his test. also to slim boy fat for the heel plate in the pedals. this took over 5 hours, measured everything perfect.... countersunk holes, double screwed everything with deck screws, and glues all together as well. seat is from a toyota paseo (only $20) full adjustable, on rails, as well as tilting, and two lumbar supports are adjustable. i also took the time to do the bearing mod to the wheel, and remove the lap plate that is on the bottom too.
pedals are secured down with a small piece of wood. the whole setup will soon be painted grey to match the seat, and the wheel. all thats left is getting some small screws to be pre drilled from under the custom cut wheel platform, to go up into the wheel where the original lock torque screws were....

i have decided to build a brand new setup out of metal tubing, and it will be powder coated as well, and will have a full dead pedal.

    watch for updates!

thanks again schooner and slim boy fat!

Just finished drafting up my design for a pvc cockpit, all thats left to do is the parts list. I took all the pvc ideas from here and made my own design, but am using 2" pvc for more strength. Anyone interested in the plans let me know iIwill post them here...

    Re: Racing Cockpits ... discuss

i visited target this afternoon and in the section where they sell 4th of july items I saw a package of 6 bungee cords for only a dollar...instead of placing springs on the gas pedals and risk damaging the pedals try using bungee cords to firm up the pedals....hope it works for anyone who wants to try it.

i looked on the target website and didn't find the cords listed so i just mentioned target and in the 4th of july section.

i tried the foam idea but the pedals are too firm and i don't feel i'm pressing on the gas pedal all the way. With the bungie cord the pedals spring back into place and you are pressing down all the way.

the cords arent tied that tight...just enough to return to place....  The cords don't get in the way of your feet because it is tied underneath the pedal

here is a side view if the gas pedal.  cord is tied under the pedal

Yes I do, works great with just about anything you use it with.

    Re: Racing Cockpits ... discuss

Does the buttkicker actually give you extra feedback into what the car is doing and how it is handling or is it just added bass and shake?  Just curious if it actually helps with car control or not or is more for the overall experience of making you feel more in the game?

Yes...on a smooth road you can feel a slight rumble, but as your tires start to wear the rumble becomes more intense.  You can also feel the expansion joints in the concrete, rumble-strips, etc.  I've been using mine for a couple of months and it's well worth the money.  Really enhances my virtual racing experience.

Thanks.  Too bad they are not on sale here in Canada, in the US they seem to go for around $120 and also now have a $50 rebate.  Here in Canada I only found one reseller and the price is $180 plus shipping and no rebates :(

PS - How does it connect to the 360?  Does it just use the L/R audio outs?  I currently have the 360 connected to my home receiver via optical out and was curious how the Buttkicker works with this?

Amazon.com has it for $99.99.  There's also a $50.00 rebate, so it only ends up costing you $49.99...great deal!

It just plugs into one audio channel (RCA Connector)...piece of cake!

I haven't started my set up yet but I have a question. Once you get the steering wheel is it possible to cycle though the different views or are you only able to select the view on closest to the nose of the car. Thanks

    Re: Racing Cockpits ... discuss

Yes you are able to cycle through the views with the wheel while driving.

    Re: Racing Cockpits ... discuss

I recently built my own cockpit and added a buttkicker (which I can't recommend highly enough to any of you who doubt its immersive qualities...) Needless to say I'm low on sleep, so sorry if I've bumped this thread heedlessly:)

I have another idea to enhance the sim racing experience:

Hooking up a fan, or two, to the gas pedal via some mechanism, and controlling the fan(s) using a potentiometer to simulate the air flowing by faster the further you press the pedal down.

You would want to add some sort of windshield for different cars, or have the fans pointed to either side, so its not blowing directly on your face.

Just think of the wind blowing past your ears as you head down the straight...

I feel the overall concept is solid, I'm just trying to figure out the logistics of how this could work. So any help bringing this concept into reality would be greatly appreciated!

Really cool idea, might not be the best thing when using a headset online but you do have a mute swtich.
