Re: Foolproof guide to awesome Carbon Fibre in 3 easy steps!!

This is a great tutorial.  I am left wondering something and sadly I am not at home to try it.

I did not use this tutorial when I made this car.  I used a different vinyl and am itching to try this one.  What I did do that I hope your tut. can benifit from is this.  I used the special color that fades white (on left) to black (on right) as my base color.  you have to scroll almost all the way down to find it.  I also made my vinyl shapes the 3rd or 4th grey away from black to make sure it would still show up when the under paint appears black.  Doing this gave the c.f. a very close recreation of how light reacts when hitting real c.f.

Can someone please try this and post pics.

    Cheers

that cf looks good, but the weave looks too big, it would be great if you had a play with my method as i have not tried playing with colours, or fading much, maybe you could make it better Smile [:)]

I will post pics of the new way later, but I'm not telling how to do it.

Mate - You completely missed my point.  You saw the thread, you used the technique.  In your opinion you improved it.  But as the quote above shows, you CLEARLY "but I'm not telling you how to do it".

Thats what prompted my slanderous post.  I am sure you dont dupe/glitch or profiteer - I was just comparing your selfish statement to that of the low life scum who do.

For the record, Steve's still looks better. (This from a guy who posted the original CF tutorial only to have Steve's blow mine away : All cred to you Steve!!)

Yeah, the weave makes it look like an rc car with a carbon fiber body.  It was my first attempt to do more that just the hood and uses 300 + layers.  ouch!  Thats why i want someone to try the color techique i used with the vinyl techique the original posted tutorial uses.   I'd do it, but im stuck at work.

iv just figured out if you apply the gradient square across the top of the CF on one area and make it white with transparency of 0.29 it bring the CF effect out a bit better

I'll have one with the Pearlescent Paint up in a moment. The only thing I changed other than that, is I put the weave at a 90 degree angle, as it is in real life.

Of course! On the side, you can see a bit of the overlap, but I hope that's only under close examination.

I covered it all with a white square, with opacity set to .10, to imitate the lacquer used to hold it together.

Re: Foolproof guide to awesome Carbon Fibre in 3 easy steps!!

Um, for some reason I'm having trouble with the pictures, but here are the changes:

    1. Base color is the top White -> Black under special colors.
    2. Change the color of the bottom layer to be the one just to the right.
    3. Set the angle of the bottom layer to 30 degrees.
    4. Set the angle of the top layer to 300 degrees.
    5. Add a white square overcoat, with the opacity set to .10
